great video Raymond , short swords and machetes are definitely a good option for a defensive weapon along with knives . i like their ability to be easily concealed and quick to deploy and can be used with more speed than longer weapons and with a blade they never run out of ammo. i think people using these weapons for self defence should get some proper training so they can be more effective and precise in their moves used so as to neutralise an attacker rather than killing them which has more serious legal implications. Im in my 60s and still train regularly and can still move with great power ,speed and accuracy which makes the young guys shit themselves lol . greetings from Australia mate.
I use my cold steel machete as a machete as well as a defense weapon. When chopping brush around the farm i have two sharp edges to keep going longer. I have a Honshu gladiator sword and a Honshu crusader quilllian dagger for close in defense.
A choil on a machete is an odd choice. Gladius is a thrusting weapon, the cold steel version invites chopping, but you're much better off thrusting into the body cavity. Minu machetes are not better than the large knife in your butcher block and a jury won't suggest you were looking for trouble if you use a kitchen knife in defense. The Wakizashi is the obvious choice in this scenario... however it is MUCH easier to defend against than the thrusting gladius. You can hold the gladius back, near to you, so the opponent cannot grab or block it and then put your body momentum into the thrust. I wouldn't recommend a copis or kukri style knife any more than I would recommend a Klingon Fantasy dagger -- imagine what the prosecutor will say to your jury!! He'll make you out to be a knife nut whole couldn't wait to try his weird weapons. Make sure your home defense short sword has ANOTHER purpose -- like an expensive collectible or part of decor set -- this is what your defense attorney will need most of all. A reasonable explanation for your selecting such a weapon on the spur of the self-defense moment. Best of all? Get a broken fencing foil or epee with a modern pistol grip handle and sharpen it to a point. It's like a modern push dagger and very effective. But yeah, you won't convince a judge that it just happened to be there by accident.
