I'll be picking up the Enduro waterproof set when they restock in about a week.

    Nice review👍🏼
I’m a 10.5 shoe (Merrell), I’ve heard Gaerne runs a tad big, would you recommend an 11 or a 10 in the SG?

Intending to replace my 3rd set of Tech 7's with the SG-22's. I have tried and could not use the Tech 10's. Looking for something with a bit more width then the Tech 7's. Like you, I have a foot that was smashed up about 15 years ago, so I have an issue with random swelling around the ankle. This is one of the reason I could not tolerate the bootie of the Tech 10's and likewise find the Fox Instincts pinch my ankle a bit too much. Was going to purchase some SG-12's this summer but when the SG-22's were announced I have held off. Just waiting for availability of preferred colour ways within Canada.
Great insight and feedback. Thanks for sharing with us.

Having similar swelling issues, I think you will find these to be the most comfortable for our conditions. And there is definitely a difference between the 12s and the 22s so it’s good your waiting for the 22s. What color way are you holding out for?

@@moto-x Good to know. Thanks for following-up. Looking for the red or the same colour you have. Have only been able to find the black or white so far in my size. The pickings are slim right now. So I may very well have to purchase from the US if things do not change over the next month.

I have been riding in SG12's for 10 years now (same pair of boots!), but they are going to need replacing soon. Today I found a pair of 12's on sale for half price.. however I always imagined I would spring for the 22's when the time came to buy a new set. The wider toe box reported in the 22's has me very interested, along with easier shifting. My 12's can be tough to shift in, especially when I'm on my dual sport and on the seat. I think I should probably go for the SG22's... How have your 22's been since you posted this video?

@@JonathanVee these are the best Gaernes I’ve had and to me well worth the cost increase over the 12s. I have just under 100 hours and love them! I’m getting another pair of 22s as well just so I’m back to having two pairs. The wider toe box, comfort out of the box and better flexibility without sacrificing support make it an easy choice for me. Let me know what you decide.

@@moto-x Awesome, thanks for the feedback. Well I ended up caving in for the SG12's after all. It was just too hard to pass on the 50% off sale! I did try the 22's on in the store, and liked them a lot. They had more flex, and did feel more comfortable overall. Something I hadn't realized until I got home was that these new SG12's have had some updates compared to my old ones, which I purchased back in 2012/13. They are less tall in the toe area and overall feel slightly lighter to me. The footbed is also flatter, so the toe doesn't rock upward as much.. Overall they seem a little slimmer than my old SG12's.

I just got the 22s for the same concerns you mentioned. I previously had 12s as well but had trouble getting toe under the shifter at times. One of the things I did that made a difference/ improvement was installing Pivot Pegs. Because the boot pivots over the center of the peg instead of the front edge of the peg it makes shifting easier because of more distance/room between peg & shifter.

Do you think the 22s have any more peg feel than the 12s? I really like my 12s but wouldn't mind more peg feel and sole traction.

Yes for sure! I noticed this Wednesday at the track, definitely more peg bite / feel. Maybe it’s the softer feel but I felt more planted on the pegs then the 12s

Would you recommend these for a wide foot? I tried sg10 on in size 11 but the toebox was real tight, are these much wider do you know? Cheers

They are a little wider then the SG12’s for sure. The toe box is wider but the height top to bottom is a little shorter. If you have a wide foot you will prefer the 22s

Exactly if you dont spend money on anything else , you make sure you have top level boots and helmet. The very lowest starting point in my opinion would be Tech 7's for boots and helmet with MIPS.

I'm about to buy my first adventure bike. I've been researching and have decided this is exactly what I'm going to do...and I will be picking up some sg22s enduro waterproof next week when they come in to stock. Most I will have ever spent on a single piece of gear other than my street helmet.
I don't make the right choices all the time but I think I'm making a pretty good one here lololol
