      Great set up. The MEGA 360 pod via the HB Control Head can display Side Imaging at your bow position. My trol mtr moves the boat 2.5 mph plenty fast enough to get good side imaging display. Slower just give more detail. realy nice for staying at the bow and SI a given area.

    The single best investment you made was the updated trolling motor. I was surprised watching your videos that you didn’t have that spot lock. I have a $3000 86 Ranger and the first thing I put on it was a Ultrex. Almost Doubled the price of my boat but so worth it. 😂

    Need to add that to properly use live scope you should use lithium batteries. The system requires constant 12v power, if your lead acid/AGMs drop to low or are to high the system will shut off. 12v lithium’s maintain constant 12v from low charge to full charge.

And I agree 9 inches is the sweet spot especially now with the widescreen display format. I wound up with a Lowrance Elite Ti2 with Active Image transducer for less than $700 bucks. I just picked up an HDS 9 Gen 2 to hook to my Motor Guide ducer. NMEA 2000 will connect the whole system and give me an autopilot using the Xi5. Got the Motor Guide used for $1200.

    @richardj6593 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If it is true that fish get conditioned to the sound and vibrations of forward facing sonar and stop biting over time, then individual manufacturers have a chance to take the lead by simply building a sound distorter on the transducer that mixes up or masks the sound and frequency to keep fish from getting conditioned. Wait and see, this is be a huge selling point for the first company to do it.

  • @theultimatesteelshooter8610
    @theultimatesteelshooter8610 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just re watched this and you did mention that you only need an MDI unit on the front. However, you might want to mention that in order to make Mega 360 work you must have a ‘+’ control head so the MDI + is what you need on the bow. This allows you to display, 360, DI, SI, and 2D on the bow unit. The Helix 9 MSI G4N is the exact unit I have on my new Nitro so I’m excited to see how you exploit it ...

    • @nathaniellarson8
      @nathaniellarson8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Side imaging is for scouting, driving around looking for structure and fish off to the sides of your boat. Down imaging is the same thing, just sraight down, like sonar but better defined. To me, side-imaging is way more useful. You can see hundreds of feet off to the side to help find structure and fish. You can see if the bottom is soft, or hard and rocky and transition points between because harder bottoms have brighter returns. I bought an old Lowrance HDS-8 unit with the Structure Scan box and transducer(both side and down imaging) last year for $400, it's old but works fine. While you are drifting down imaging and/or traditional sonar would be more useful, yes.

You said the side imaging was only clear if the boat is moving at 3 to 5 mph, so don't get it as part of the trolling motor. If that's true I can't understand why it's an option on the Minn Kota trolling motors. I'm looking to upgrade electronics on my boat and was hoping the side imaging would be useful as I use my trolling motor to jig for walley.

    Have you uploaded in depth videos of how to use the MEGA 360 yet? I haven't seen them but there are also a ton of videos to go through.

    I have a helix gn3 on my old boat and got an Allison with a lowrance HDS. The mapping sucks. Think I’m gonna move my helix to the Allison.
    My si is better at about 7 mph I’m using a second livescope in perspective as my 360.

    • @FishtheMoment
      @FishtheMoment  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They both have different advantages and applications. I will make a video explaining the difference in the coming months. The biggest difference is that I can use the 360 imaging when my ultrex is on spot lock

      I think the 360 is better for targeting and positioning on structure while panoptix is better for targeting active fish

    Question, Why didn’t you get the Garmin 1022 instead of the 1022xsv. (Isn’t the “ xvs “ the same unit but the addition of mapping and down and side imaging). Also did you purchase the transom mount transducer with your Garmin ? Sorry if a n00b question, just trying to sort these units out.

    If the trolling motor is on spot lock, and constantly moving, how can you use the live scope to view one area effectively??

  • @iBaloo42
    @iBaloo42 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm confused here. Having the livescope transducer on trolling motor makes it useless when you engage the spot lock.
    What are your fishing usage scenarios for this configuration?

    Since your 2 Humminbird units are linked, isn't it possible to have one show what the other sees? Such as having your console unit display the 360 image or having the bow unit display the SI image from the console?

    This video is great and it was definitely a huge help. I did still have a few questions regarding your front hummingbird Helix 9 setup. I noticed your Ultrex has a built in transducer but I can't tell which one it is. Are you soley using this for your front Helix for 360 imaging or do you have it connected to your trolling motor transducer as well? Is your trolling motor transducer MSI or only MDI? Is your front Helix MDI only or did you get the side imaging? I'm trying to see if there is a benefit to me buying an ultrex with MSI or if i shoud go with the MDI model that is a bit cheaper.

    Awesome video Johnny. I was thinking about adding mega 360 this spring but I’m holding out to see what Humminbird’s mega live looks like.
    What are your thoughts on the hydrowave? I’m strongly considering getting it but I’m skeptical.

    Hey! Can you help give me some advice on my current setup? I just bought a 2000 Triton TR21. It came with a Humminbird 899 HD SI much like your 998. That unit is at the console, and I have a small 688 I believe mounted into the front dash. For now, I uncooked the 688 and installed my Garmin 74 CV UHD I had off my skeeter. So here comes where I'm having troubles figuring out what to do next... I have thought about A. Buying a garmin 93 SV to mount at the console and link to my 74 up front and probably remove the 899. B. I have thought about simply ordering the interlink system and running new power wires to the 688 so I can have 2 units linked pretty cheaply. C. I have thought about buying a used HDS 9 or 12 Gen 3 carbon and leaving my 899 on there. I have a friend that has a HDS 9 and I really like how well the 2d sonar reads. And from videos I've seen, their side scan and structure scan is pretty dang good. Or D. should I just leave the 899 alone and buy LiveScope for my Garmin up front? Also, I will mention that I have a Humminbird 1197 on my Bass Tracker. It also has a ram mount, so I can actually take the 899 off and have the benefit of a 11-12 inch screen on my new triton and utilize the same power and transducer cables. As far as I've seen (only had the boat on the water once before I found it has a bad live well hose leak), the side imaging seems to work pretty dang good on my new triton. So I might just be wasting money buying an extra unit except I won't have two units linked unless I go the B option. I just really want to learn to fish deep this year like you do. Thanks! I look forward to your advice.

  • @slivers4007
    @slivers4007 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hmmm. You mentioned in 2 places that you can "transfer" waypoints between the 2 units? I have an 8 and 9 on my boat and for the winter I use the 8 for ice fishing. The first time out this year I found I was missing almost all my waypoints on the 8. I got the 9 out and yep there were the waypoints. After talking to Humminbird and posting on of the forums I was informed that the waypoints are unique to the unit that they were entered on and stay in the units memory. So if the waypoint is entered on the 8 it stays on the 8. If I want the waypoints on the 9 I would have to download them to a sd card and load them on the 9 and vice versa. Now if they are networked together they "share" the waypoints back and forth, but they are not transferred, unless you have found a way that Humminbird doesn't know about?

    • @FishtheMoment
      @FishtheMoment  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I said "Transfer" I meant "Sharing". The ethernet cable allows the units to share waypoints between each other, but when one unit is turned off, the waypoints will no longer share.
