Bojangles and Jeni Le Gon do a marvellous tap dance and then Bill Robinson and Fats Waller sing the song "I'm Living In A Great Big Way" in this fragment from the film "Hooray For Love".
Bill Robinson trained and practiced more than most people could ever imagine. His effortless style belies the fact that he worked so hard to be so great. He is listed as a record holder for running backwards over 100 yards--13.5 seconds! An amazing performer along with the genius, Fats Waller. Love it!
My man, Mr. Bojangles. One of my favorite dancers since I can remember. No one can do better than him. And, ah! Good ol' Fats Waller. He sure can tickle the ivories. And I've always loved it when he says that 2:52 "What's da matta wit' 'iiiiiiiim??!!" It became one of his catchphrases. Love them both!!
A black man taught a legendary dancer like fred astaire how to dance thats rare but beautiful in that era ♥️ 😍 and the reason fred astaire did that tribute for both bubbles and bojangles as a matter of respect and thanking them for what they did for him 👏 🙌 RIP 🙏
This is the first time I heard the lovely Jeni sing. What a nice voice. Fats Waller acts much more naturally here than he did in "Stormy Weather." And what can you say about Bill Robinson but "BRAVO!" Makes me want to seek out the full movie. Thanks so much for posting.
Such an amazing film clip... there's more TALENT going on in this five and a half minute clip, than in a whole season of some famous reality talent show, now on TV.
I would loved to see him dance when he was young, all the film clips i have seen he was well into his fifties or older. Just like this movie he is in his mid fifties.
moceanworker millions did. with the lessening of discrimination, the Black studios went out of business, along with many other types of community enterprises (stores, restaurants, Drs, lawyers). thank you sjws for destroying black, and other minority institutions.
There is only one Fats Waller. Fortunately, he is well recorded so just bu y one of several compilations. He really is one of the greatest performers of all time and wrote many great standards and performed them with great finesse and humour.
does anyone remember bill robinson dancing on the yankee dugout? during the game. yes, mel allen would call it; I remember it clearly, around '46 or so
Unfortunately we don't have so many shots of Thomas Waller playing piano where we can see his hands. It's a real shame, because he was a true astonishing virtuoso, one of the best of the XXth century. The same for Art Tatum.
Could somebody please post this clip including the scene with the three cute kids singing just before Mr, Robinson and Miss Le Gon go into their dance?
The funny thing about life is that just because someone has a great talent it does that make thing happy, good, bad, or anything. They are just like anybody else although we want to make them more.
How wonderful of you to feature Bill "Bojangles" Robinson. Today, May 25th 2016 is the 138th anniversary of his birth. Please check out my youtube channel honoring Robinson and other great African-American artists like Robert Johnson, “King of the Delta blues singers”; Ernest Hogan, “Father of ragtime”; James Brown, “Godfather of soul” and Patti LaBelle, "Godmother of Soul" - all born in the month of May.
Great dancing ..... roots firmly i England! Ist part pure Lancashire clog steps 2nd part (solo) Westmorland in style!!! As Sam Sherry said his style of dancing is "pure clog". The Americans did NOT invent tap dancing!

All professional dancers practice hard to make it look easy.
Fred Astaire said, Bill Robinson was the best dancer he ever saw for he had moves that to me were impossible to do.
Amazing person Mr. Bojangles
two of my favorite men from the past, together!!! what a treasure.
Two legends not stepping on each other, stealing the spotlight...can we learn from this?
Just watching this makes me happy. What a combination of talent. Terriffic!

Come back and dance again, Mr. Bojangles.

Fats Waller: "Get away from here"
This cracks me up so much I can't even
Can someone recommend me more singers of this genre??

What a treasure!!! 🤣

Watching the back and forth between the two, minded me of Ali and Frazier but on a musical level. Both guys win in this bout!
love fats
@tubemagpie They didn't invent it but black Americans took it to another level...
wow, it is a Shim Sham!!!
Is that a "box-back coat" that Mr Bojangles is wearing?

I named my dog Mr.Bojangles...and when people ask why i tell them about Bill Robinson my hero..
they're not looking for stuff like this.
I think I may have pressed dislike by accident. This is great great music, too bad Waller died at such a young age. He was a true entertainer.
I love it.
arne899
Yeah, but who was the woman as good or better than Robinson?
hold on - I think Fred Aestaire stole Bill Robinson's dance moves - at 5:10
u right. stop the steal
Now you fucked up!!
@boogieboy1000000
Because it spews of ignorance, intolerance and stupidity to attack someone for having different taste.
