    1:45 Sounded so cool and so did the very start, so peaceful to hear

      Glad you like it. My goal was what a friend of mine calls a "slow burn." It's not as slow as a Mahler Adagio might be, but it builds quite a bit. That opening was my attempt to imitate the sound of the brass quartet playing out of the Salvation Army "Green Books."

      Thank you, dom. I like it myself (if I may be so bold to say). I said to someone recently that among all the decadent "musical sweets" you get at Christmas, it's a relief to have some "savory." And even some bitter (as, of course, The Christ Story has it's bitter elements).

      I attempted to paste a direct link in a reply, but TH-cam apparently thought I was spamming… so you can just go up in the description box for a link to where you can buy the tuba…and of course get info on what the instrument is in the first place.

      Thanks! You just outlined a few of the main goals I have when I'm writing. For me, it's important every player has at least a moment or two in each piece that they really enjoy playing.

      Honestly, me too (if I do say so myself). For once, I got this one sounding pretty close to as good as I envisioned it.

      @@TheMusicofDrewFennell I feel you there, I think of a great idea in my head and then I get upset because It doesn’t sound like I envisioned it

      @@nyancs7098, for sure. It's a constant frustration. I've come to realize, especially as it relates to composition (versus arranging) , that this is what separates the great ones from the rest. There are the elite, top end composers who have "it." There are those who know what "it" is and keep trying to find it, and rarely (but happily) do. There are those who don't know what "it" is but somehow keep cranking the sausage machine (and sometimes, miraculously, racking up the cash in the process?!). And then there are those who do not know what "it" is, but keep banging their heads against their desk in hopes the mouse will move and show them the right notes to place on the screen. Haha, how's that for "in a nutshell?" Anyway, I'm thankful when the Muses give me a moment of clarity and I can seize upon it!

      The Music of Drew Fennell yes, like I am in awe of Phillip sparke, as composing fro British brass band is quite difficult, especially the cornet lines

    • @TheMusicofDrewFennell
      @TheMusicofDrewFennell 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nyancs7098, agreed. Truth is is starts with a clear knowledge of the theory, voice leading, and orchestration. Even with great ideas, composers fail often because they just don't know the CRAFT. Craftsmanship is important. It's more than ART. And in a sense, craftsmanship is an art of its very own. I realize that more and more (used to say it was "common sense"...nope...not common).
