I made this recipe and OMG soooo yummy. Definitely recommend and easy to make 👌 my family loved it. -1/2 cup dark rum -1 1/2 to 2 cups espresso -16oz room temperature mascarpone (450g) -1/4 cup dark rum (60mL) (to be mixed with the mascarpone) -6 large egg yolk -2/3 cup granulated sugar (133g) -2 cups heavy whipping cream (480L) -2 tsp vanilla
I made my first ever Tiramisu using this recipe video and it came out so delicious. I made this recently for my husband's birthday and he loves Tiramisu. We all loved it. Thank you, John.
One thing to note. Make sure the egg yolks and mascarpone mixture is cooled before mixing in the whipped cream. Mine wasn’t and my cream mixture looked curdled
Mine curdled too. Then I warm it up in the microwave in short intervals and stir it and it all blended together, no more curdled look. Then pop in fridge until ready to fold in the whipped cream.
Nice recipe, I love tiramisu! Here in Italy the classic version of tiramisu requires 1 small sized egg per 100g of mascarpone cheese - so, for instance, 5 eggs for 500g of mascarpone. Many italians tend to reduce the amount of eggs (like, 3 eggs for 500g of cheese). Also, there's no whipping cream - the extra air is given by whipped egg whites which are supposed to be folded in the sugar+yolks (to be beaten beforehand) and mascarpone mix (to which you may add a tablespoon of liqueur, here Marsala wine is pretty popular). The "traditional version from the 80s" doesn't require any cooking or double boiling but if you're afraid of using raw eggs (which is mainly a concern for little kids of pregnant women) you may attempt a bland pasteurization, being careful not to make it cook or it'll get lumpy - and to add the yolks+sugar mixture ONLY after it reached room temperature. The trick of not over-soaking ladyfingers is actually true and it makes a difference; also, beware of your coffee dip temperature, if it's still kinda warm it'll soak more easily your biscuits. Not to mention that not all ladyfingers from marts are the same, some are more prone to fast absorbing than others... You'll eventually find your favourite brand and adjust the needed soaking time.
Unfortunately outside of italy often the mascapone is very watery and inconsistent quality! I have had tiramisu disasters myself! tiramisoup! I think this is why outside of italy often times cream is added to help it set!
i just saw a recipe on tiktok, it says that 400gr of mascarpone with 6 egg yolk, and the egg whites is also 6. moreover total of sugar amount is 6 tablespoon/90gr. is that okay?
Yes actually if I would hold so long as he the cookies they would be soup in desert … so it means there r different breads. Better do not have enough than to much water. Intersting about whites. Some do with cream some with whites … have to try both then 😅
Oh man, I'll have to try that with the egg! I won't lie, I was dreading just having some egg whites laying around since I don't usually enjoy eating them without yolk. Thank you for the tips!
I have been making tiramisu for 50+ years. When my kids were little, they did not like the coffee flavor, so I made it with Mexican hot chocolate instead, and it was a huge hit at sleepovers. Once I made two versions for a large neighborhood party, and we did a side-by-side taste test. Among 30+ tasters, 100% preferred the Mexican chocolate version over the espresso. I have never looked back, though I do pay homage to the original by decorating the top with chocolate covered espresso beans.

My family and I wanted to do an Italian Christmas dinner/dessert last year and this recipe is absolutely amazing. By far the best tiramisu we've ever had in our lives. We are now making the Italian dinner/ dessert a new tradition. Watching this a few times to remember how to make it ❤
Oh boy! This dessert is hands down my favorite😂 I could eat all that tiramisu by myself in a sitting... It's insane. My nonna didn't skip the rum or coffee and we as kids would have some and just go to take a nap while the adults chatted 🥴 I also had ladyfinger as snacks for kindergarten and apple juice... I'm 26 and I still remember my mom packing some for me and being unable to wait until break to have them ahahah. Again, thank you for the amazing videos... it's making me remember things from my childhood that I thought I've forgotten!
I Made made this for my Granddaughter's 20th Birthday. I Used Marsala instead of Rum and shaved shaved a dark chocolate bar on top just before cutting it for a beautiful finish. For tonight Valentine’s Day I’ve gone for a twist buttering lady fingers with blood orange marmalade soaking the sides with Tia Maria using Marsala Wine in the mascarpone and as well as cocoa powder I’ve crushed dark chocolate orange on top. 2 helpings says it all 😮
John, this recipe is such a house favourite! I make it for every big event like thanksgiving, birthdays and christmas and it is always a success. Thank you so much for this!
I made this for my husband’s birthday and it was delicious! This recipe is now going to be stay in the family. It’s so easy and simple to follow. Thanks for sharing!
I made this exactly as instructed and it was the BEST tiramisu my husband has had even better than an authentic Italian restaurant! Excellent!! I love all your recipes! Thank you for being so detailed in your directions.
For a more unique and complex flavour, try using marsala wine instead of run or coffee liqueur! I’m told using marsala wine in tiramisu is traditional in some parts of Italy. Also, it’s traditional to use whipped egg whites instead of whipped cream to floof up the dessert, cuts back on the richness while keeping all the flavour 😊 Of course, uncooked egg whites worry some people, so you can either buy pasteurized egg whites, or whip the egg whites over a double boiler, to bring it up to the temperature that would kill salmonella (can’t remember it off the top of my head)
this isnt that easy of a substitution if u plan on keeping it a while. whipped cream is very thick and solid, it holds its mass, but whipped hard whites are much runnier and more fragile and are prone to splitting. I found a hard italian meringue worked the best but it may not be as cuttable. I think a version is possible that still sets utilising whites but its not simply replacement. i need to experiment more 😢 man cooking is tough. so many eggs rip
Made this several time. It’s my go-to recipe. ❤ Now days when there are so many recipes online Preppy Kitchen is one of the few trustworthy, tested, and pro source that you can rely on. Even of you’ve never tried a recipe you can trust that it will turn out well because John knows what he’s doing.
Hi John! I wisked the eggs and the sugar over steam for more than 10 minutes, the mixture foamed up but the granules didn’t melt away completely. Is that ok?
I just finished making the tiramisu and I left it chill overnight in the fridge. Instead of dark rum I added Jack Daniel’s and I made the lady fingers from scratch with your recipe 🤎thank you.
If you guys don’t have lady fingers, I recommend biscoff cookies and just barely dip them for 1 second when soaking. Comes out SO DELICIOUS. I also did without the rum cause I don’t like that meyers flavor so I replaced with more coffee ☺️ comes out so delicious
The booze brings complexity and helps cut the sweetness. Both things the coffee will do. You could leave it out and sub more coffee, or if you want the flavour, add some rum extract or even vanilla. Good luck 🥳
I used this recipe to make Tiramisu for my husband’s birthday instead of cake (also used his lady fingers recipe) and it was a hit! Amazingly rich and creamy! The only two things that I deviated from was the coffee/rum dip, I instead did coffee/kahlua/Mr Coffee to booze it up more 👌 and I folded in Hazelnut spread to the batter. It was the perfect balance of creamy and sweetness. I’m going to make it again soon! Thank you 🙏

I made this Tiramisu 2 weeks before Easter and it was so good, I made it for Easter! I could not believe how creamy, smooth and flavorful the tiramisu came out, not to mention how easy it was to make. I used 2 airplane bottles of Khalua, added a generous splash to the marscapone and the rest went into the espresso. Honestly, it was better than the Italian store where I get my favorite tiramisu. This recipe has too much rum for my liking. I wish I realized this before making it. However, I made about half dipped in hot chocolate for the non-rum/coffee people.
Was it good? I like the taste of coffee but I can't tolerate it especially strong one. 😅 My friend added milk to the coffee to make it light and she said it was good but idk if that's wise.
I made this recipe for my son’s birthday I add bailey’s Irish cream instead of rum as you recommend in your webpage, it was delicious 😍 Thank you so much, you explained every detail. It was a success 🎉
I’ve made this recipe multiple times it’s the most delicious tiramisu I have ever tasted . I have made it with rum but also with licor 43 (it’s like an amaretto). I highly recommend making it with licor 43 !!!
I don't know if it's been said before but you can replace the cream with egg whites. You can also use the double boiler to heat the egg whites and make them safe then whip them up to stiff peaks. It results in a lighter tiramisu that I personally prefer
@@Mottar-jd1ee eum have you seen how to make swiss meringue buttercream? It's a simular method. You put the egg whites with some sugar on a double boiler and wisk it until the sugar is desolved (and then when it reaches 65 degrees celcius or 150 fahrenheit (the temperature when salmonella dies at least when i look it up)) you can take it off the heat and whip it until it reaches stiff peaks or a liittle before stiff peaks depending on what you prefer. Hope that answers your question.

Your instructions were easy to follow, and so Delicious! Thank you so much for sharing,. definitely a keeper and favorite of mine, Tina Ringue
One of my favorite deserts I want to perfect for thanksgiving!!!! This is my go to channel for any recipe because everything I’ve ever made from this, has NEVER FAILED!!!!! Thanks for your amazing videos ❤️
Did this at Christmas and it was amazing the family loved it. For tonight Valentine’s Day I’ve gone for a twist buttering lady fingers with blood orange marmalade soaking the sides with Tia Maria using Marsala Wine in the mascarpone and as well as cocoa powder I’ve crushed dark chocolate orange on top. 2 helpings says it all 😮
Option 3 if you can’t find lady fingers at your local grocery store: move.
Haha!
option 4: if you can't find lady fingers, kidnap a lady and chop off her fingers

Watching these cooking recipes are sooo wholesome! Love cooking stuff like this!! So therapeutic!!
I love this recipe, you have changed my dilemma of hating cooking! Thank you for inspiring me
I made this exactly as instructed and it was the BEST tiramisu my husband has had even better than an authentic Italian restaurant! Excellent!! I love all your recipes! Thank you for being so detailed in your directions.
For a more unique and complex flavour, try using marsala wine instead of run or coffee liqueur! I’m told using marsala wine in tiramisu is traditional in some parts of Italy. Also, it’s traditional to use whipped egg whites instead of whipped cream to floof up the dessert, cuts back on the richness while keeping all the flavour 😊
Of course, uncooked egg whites worry some people, so you can either buy pasteurized egg whites, or whip the egg whites over a double boiler, to bring it up to the temperature that would kill salmonella (can’t remember it off the top of my head)
this isnt that easy of a substitution if u plan on keeping it a while. whipped cream is very thick and solid, it holds its mass, but whipped hard whites are much runnier and more fragile and are prone to splitting.
Is that ok?
I would love a ladyfinger recipe! I've always wanted to make tiramisu completely from scratch 😊
he finally made one!!!!
I just finished making the tiramisu and I left it chill overnight in the fridge. Instead of dark rum I added Jack Daniel’s and I made the lady fingers from scratch with your recipe 🤎thank you.
Maybe you’ll have to make a lady finger recipe next 🤭😁
If you guys don’t have lady fingers, I recommend biscoff cookies and just barely dip them for 1 second when soaking. Comes out SO DELICIOUS. I also did without the rum cause I don’t like that meyers flavor so I replaced with more coffee ☺️ comes out so delicious
I want to make this but I don't drink. Does anyone know what a good substitute for the dark rum would be?
Wondering the same thing!
I would mix molasses and orange juice with a bit of almond extract. Not sure how it would come out but worth a try.
The booze brings complexity and helps cut the sweetness. Both things the coffee will do. You could leave it out and sub more coffee, or if you want the flavour, add some rum extract or even vanilla. Good luck 🥳
I think I would maybe try a coffee syrup?
Ever since making this guy’s cream puffs, I swear by his recipes 🛐
They’re so good
John, you should use Tía María or coffee liqueur, really makes the difference. Great recipe, it looks soooooo yummy!
I love adding extras like that in. :)
I use half Khalua/tia Maria and half amaretto. On top I use half coco and half cinnamon. Yum. Tiramisu is one of my favs!!!!
@@suzlindaard728 -- That sounds delicious!
@@suzlindaard728 Me too!!
@@suzlindaard728 do you add it to the lady finger wash? Curious because I would like to try it with these modifications?

Made this for Christmas dessert and now making it for Valentine’s Day! Just so amazing 🤩
Thank you 🙏
You deserve all the success this platform has to offer. You're great and so are your videos 😭😭😍😍
I made your tiramisu recipe for Thanksgiving because it's my husband's favorite dessert, and he was blown away-he said it's so much better than store-bought! I even made your ladyfingers from scratch, and they turned out perfect. Thank you for sharing such an amazing recipe-it made our holiday extra special. Happy Thanksgiving
Tiramisu, wow, very interesting. You did a great job chef here is my full support.
The best recipe ever. Sooo delicious and very easy to make. Thank you.🎉
I’m obsessed with your videos and recipes John! This looks so delicious, thanks for constantly blessing us 🤩:)
Hi,
I was wondering if you can substitute the alcohol with something? I don't drink but would love to make this! 😩
You may skip the alcohol part
I love how you cook the egg yolk into a zabaglione. Can't wait to prepare this dessert!!! One of my favorite frostings is Italian Meringue. Great way to use up the egg whites. You can make an omelet with the whites too. Your videos and recipes are wonderful.
I just made this and it's chilling on the fridge. I hope it turns out good !
This recipe was a hit at Thanksgiving! Everyone loved it! Thank you!!
made this for my hubby and he almost died. loved every single piece of it. you are a wizard preppy kitchen man.
This was really delicious. I made it for Xmas and because of COVID regulations and small numbers at our dinner table it lasted for 3 days of dessert. Will definitely make it again and it’ll be perfect when I can have all my family back home for Xmas dinner . Thank You John 🤗
Hi John! I’m a huge fan I’ve been making this desert 6 times now. My family’s favorite dessert it seems. I have a question, I know you say room temperature for the mascarpone however when I’m mixing it with a whisk for maybe 3-5 mins it gets watery and grainy .. What am I doing wrong? Thank you for reading my comment!
Loved your recipe, made it and it's real yummy.
Dear John,
As I had promised to return with my comment about the result of the tiramisu replicated from your recipe. On 10/04/23, recently my birthday, I completed the mission with perfection.
The Italian-themed dinner was a huge success and I couldn't thank you enough for helping me finish the dinner with the magnificent dessert.
You deserve millions of my thanks.
I will continue to follow your channel ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
kind regards

Thank you for being the only person in the world who knows how to pronounce “mascarpone” properly 😂
He's pronouncing it incorrectly tho
hi i hav a question can you use normal custard with milk and custard powder?
I love this dessert! many times I’ve found that in some restaurants it is not as rich as it should be, they sadly used cream mixed with the mascarpone. Your recipe is just perfect!
I tried this recipe this weekend (halved the quantities for a smaller TIramisu). It was delicious! So much better than shop bought ones! 😊
I never thought I’d hear the word “entomb” in a cooking video 😉
How do I make the coffee if I don’t have what you have? I have a French press and a fancier version of a traditional coffee machine? If I can use either can you tell me the ratio of coffee/water is?
Thanks
I have started following preppy kitchen recently, and by far, its the best cooking channel EVER!!!! I love to try out all the recipes exactly as John shows them, so it would be great if you could post the recipe of ladyfingers😊🙏🏻
My Italian mama used to make this..So I ordered my lady fingers on amazon which are a traditional savoiardi from Italy..just made this tonight I cant believe how easy it was I also graded real dark chocolate since I had some fancy bars at home..dunno why I always balked at trying it..it always appeared difficult but OMG!! i can wait til tomorrow.. I want it fully chilled!! Thanks for the recipe!!😊🤗😍
If you’re thinking about making this recipe, DO IT. John has the best outline and instructions to make it almost foolproof!

You gave me a great idea of making this dessert for myself on my birthday instead of buying a cake. I think it makes it much more special and tiramisú is my absolute favorite dessert. Thank you!
One of my favorite things to eat! Can’t wait to try your recipe🥺! My boyfriend and I have made so many of your recipes in these times hahahah you’re awesome
I used African cream liqueur instead of rum because it’s what I had and the tiramisu turned out AMAZING. Literally the best I’ve ever had. Thank you!
I made this recipe for my son’s birthday
I add bailey’s Irish cream instead of rum as you recommend in your webpage, it was delicious 😍 Thank you so much, you explained every detail. It was a success 🎉
I would LOVE a Lady Finger recipe as I can't get these in my country! Thanks John, amazing as always!
I’ve made this recipe multiple times it’s the most delicious tiramisu I have ever tasted . I have made it with rum but also with licor 43 (it’s like an amaretto). I highly recommend making it with licor 43 !!!
What’s licor 43? What brand do you use? Thanks
Your tiramisu recipe was a hit this weekend. Thank you for great description and instructions. Can’t wait till I make another of your pastries
Thank you for sharing your baking knowledge I have learned so much . This tiramisu is delicious .
I don't know if it's been said before but you can replace the cream with egg whites. You can also use the double boiler to heat the egg whites and make them safe then whip them up to stiff peaks. It results in a lighter tiramisu that I personally prefer
What should we do with eggs white i didnt get u.should we put them on water steam?
@@Mottar-jd1ee eum have you seen how to make swiss meringue buttercream? It's a simular method. You put the egg whites with some sugar on a double boiler and wisk it until the sugar is desolved (and then when it reaches 65 degrees celcius or 150 fahrenheit (the temperature when salmonella dies at least when i look it up)) you can take it off the heat and whip it until it reaches stiff peaks or a liittle before stiff peaks depending on what you prefer. Hope that answers your question.
Couldn't find any mascarpone so I combined about 10oz of cream cheese and a 1/4cup of heavy cream. Also couldn't find ladyfingers so I used Biscoff cookies instead and it came out sooo good! Definitely going to make again 🎉😊
Omggggg I’m also trying with biscoff cookies!! Went to target for lady fingers and they didn’t have any. Figured biscoff cookies are a scrumptious substitute!
I love that you put this video out. I have been planning to make tiramisu for Thanksgiving dessert (benefit of having a tiny thanksgiving this year: fancy dish opportunities) and it always helps to have more references for technique and recipe formation. Thank you! It looks delicious!

Never seen it made with rum before. We always use Amaretto, but I will give the rum a try 😋
John, how long can I store ready mixed Mascarpone Cream Chese ? please please reply Tracey from Austin Texas
I make “merengue” with the egg whites instead of whip cream (italian here)
Stavo cercando questo commento hahah
That's how it should be, but some people (especially Americans) are paranoid about eggs
And is amaretto, like disarronno, instead of rhum. For kids I use almond extract and decaff
I know, with egg whites... it’s how I learn to make it from an Italian; although in Mexico, we use kaluah instead of rum which is really good as well.
It is my go-to Tiramisu recipe. My family loves it. It never failed me.
