This hose is 1/2" emitter tubing from Dripworks the number is DFET361-250 which is 250' of tubing. I'm not sure if they still sell 250' but I do know they sell 500' which is DFET361-500 This tubing is long lasting (8 plus years) and it has the emitters built into the tubing. All trees are still living and look great. The 500' 1/2" emitter tubing is $93 Guaranteed all these trees would not have survived last years drought without the tubing.
@@thetrinityandtorishow7618 I use a filter only, no regulator. The water line is long enough and watering 51 trees it reduces the pressure enough that you don't need a regulator. But I have a whole house regulator that is set to around 60lbs.
For anyone interested this is dhk227 and it is June 17 2018 and we are 4 in. below normal for rain and this is the first year I did not have to water the trees so it took 6 years!!
The trees haven't gotten much taller but have filled in nicely. But I expect this year they will take off. We planted 7 Arborvitae on the other side of the house and it seems like they grew very fast to around 15 ft. and now always filled with birds. The Arborvitae is the favorite plant of the evergreen bagworm so google bagworm and you will know what it looks like and what to spray to get rid of it. Hopefully we never get them but I see them on trees in Davenport.
how tall where they when you first planted them? I see you made an update video. were you to be measure how tall they got? thanks in advance. I planted 11 last 2017 and they are growing slow and think. so far I think most of them grew about close to a foot. one died.
I think they were around 4ft. when planted. Now most (maybe 40) are 13-14ft tall and the rest 10-12ft tall. I have to move the fence I have up to protect the trees from dog pee because the trees are growing into the fence or just take the fence down.
I should do another video. Yes they all survived and they look pretty good but they certainly would not have all survived after 2 years of drought without the drip line! I learned you need to start watering very early in the spring. The first spring I thought we had enough snow to water the trees then my wife came in and said I better look at the trees they were turning brown and were looking bad. I also found out that you should never depend on a timer. This spring the timer broke and the trees were watered for around 24 hrs and they didn't look too good after that (maybe because of city water). So I make sure that never happens again. Another thing the building behind us allows dogs now and two big dogs were peeing on the trees through the winter and spring so we put up a small fence so the dogs can use the fence now and not the trees. The emitters are 1 gph and I water 60 to 90 minutes whenever I think they need it which you get pretty good at after you do it a while. Maybe once a week if it doesn't rain. Twice a week if its hot and dry but you can tell just by looking close at the trees bright green or dull green.
Maybe it was the mulch that killed one of my 2 arborvitaes that I planted and had to replace it. I'm glad to know that's what may have killed it. No more mulch.
Hi I planted 5’ last month I installed 2gal per hr continues water on a timer at 2 min every hr. Is this sufficient? I am in Ohio. I also go around with the hose every day just to make sure all gets water
I don't know, my drip line was 1 gal per hour and only did this at most 2 times a week. But it was almost every week once or twice a week I suppose I would do it once a week and any time they start turning brown Have to watch close, if they turn too brown they could be dead in a couple days Mine are absolutely beautiful and around 10 ft. tall, love the birds!!! This is the first year I did not have to water, so it took 6 years.
I think light mulch is recommended but more important is to keep weeds away with herbicide for the first 5 years, check out windbreaktrees.com for a lot of good info
Great! Thanks for responding quickly. I'm planting 55 emerald greens tomorrow for a nice natural privacy screen. How tall have your trees gotten? Again thanks for the info.
+Ontario Guy No not really, probably the biggest thing to be aware of is if it rains after it snows because the snow becomes very heavy and you should knock it off. And for my particular situation dogs peeing on the trees all winter did a lot of damage before I noticed it in the spring. Also they say to clean out the old needles that fall inside the tree I did this one year right before the ground thawed and they seemed to dry out very fast. It almost seems the old needles inside the tree insulate the tree to some degree It might be best to clean the inside of the tree about a month or two after the ground thaws after it soaks up the spring rains for a while.
How often did you water your trees during the first year? I see your water drippjng system it looks great, did you water them everyday for 60 mins aprox?
I think I started at 3 times per week, but it all depends on how much it rains. If it rains 1in. then you don't water at all. After a while you can adjust the watering by the way the trees look because you can tell if they look dry and need more water. My drip line is still working great after 6 years, I think I watered 3 or 4 times (75 mins.) this summer because it got real dry but I didn't really have to.
+D Who? I don't really know how tall they will get. The tag said they were Emerald Green but if you watch the 2015 update I show some other trees I planted that also said Emerald Green and they are different and tall. And I never took the time to find out which variety these are.
dhk227 I guess you can get 14 footers or 40 fts.. I found out.. but wondering about sun? Do they like sun and when do you plant them? the best time of year?
I suppose the best time to plant is spring time because they need a lot of water. And they like full sun They have some videos on youtube where the tree only gets sun on one side and the other side is shaded and bare. Bad time to plant would be mid summer with lack of rain but it is doable with a drip line
karunald I will try to do another video of the trees they look very nice, all survived which was only possible because of the drip line because of 2 summers of drought After the 2nd winter they looked bad on side close to the building because of 2 big dogs people were letting out and were peeing on trees and did a lot of damage We put small fence up alone that side and trees recovered I found the trees need a lot of water as soon as the ground thaws
Can you post and update of what these look like now? 9 years later?

If they had enough water then it probably was the the mulch if you put a lot around the tree. I pulled all the mulch from under the trees
We bought these trees on sale at Menards in Davenport Iowa. They were $25 with a $5 rebate for each tree so we paid $20 per tree. A good price
I just bought 12 of the Emerald Beauty variety in Lorain County Ohio @ 16$ each, but their height is between 36 to 48 inches

How much did u spend on these trees??

I would stay away from the really tall trees
Lot of heavy snow and ice problems
How far apart (on center) did you plant them? Were they about 6' when in the ground??
+karunald
They are planted 36 inches apart
+dhk227 Thank you. I'd LOVE to see a current video to see how they grew in that time. Even a photo would be good.
karunald
I will try to do another video of the trees
they look very nice, all survived which was only possible because of the drip line because of 2 summers of drought
After the 2nd winter they looked bad on side close to the building because of 2 big dogs
people were letting out and were peeing on trees and did a lot of damage
We put small fence up alone that side and trees recovered
I found the trees need a lot of water as soon as the ground thaws

Planting Arborvitae Trees UPDATED 2015
What the hell is making sounds ?
The sound you hear are cicadas, they come out in august
Too heavy on the mulch
one of the top 5 WORST videos I ever saw. Non-coherent, noninformative and jerky camera. waste of MY time
