While said latter party ruled, many innovative initiatives like this (as well as much scientific research) were cut. We were really lucky that in Canada we had these commercials when we were kids. They didn’t try to get us to buy stuff like normal ones. They showed concern and advice to direct kids to answers they might not normally find. Also they were divided up into certain age group demographics .Young children had the more cartoonish, or animal ones. (Although the House Hippo was loved by all ages.) middle school and Jr high had the bulling ,and be yourself ones, or anti drug ones. They also spoke to the parents about child abuse, and how to talk to their kids. I would see them a lot in the afternoon, watching after school programs. I still remember them today, and can sing along to some of the tunes.

After what happened last February in Ottawa, the outright lies that were told by politicians, media, and police!!! There were no fuqn Nazis there, there was one good carrying that flag and the protesters, not the police got rid of that fool! Then the media told these lies, telling people the protesters were strapping gas cans to kids backs and millions of stupid fuqn Canadians believed EVERY WORD!! Then they call a state of emergency, and use riot police and horses, tear gas on innocent LEGAL protests!!! It's the capital of the country, where the fuq else are people supposed to protest! That entire incident, as well as the pathetic left wing agenda, violating people's free speech, because some fuqn snowflake might get their fuqn feelings hurt, the whole pro trans LGBTQABCDEFG movement has completely divided the country, and it's not gonna get better it's gonna get worse, so don't expect Canadians to be uniting on ANYTHING in the near future, you can expect the division to get much worse, ALOT of people of fuqn fed right up with everyone's bitchin n whinin about absolutely fuqn everything, and they're not gonna tolerate this bullshit for too much longer, up until now most folks have kept their true feelings inside because they're afraid to speak up, they're worried about being "cancelled" or called a bigot or a racist, but people have had just about enough of keeping their mouths shut, and they gonna start speaking up, and ALOT of people are going to get angry or offended, but oh well tough shit, enough is enough!

A long, long time ago, there used to be a National Film Board (NFB) that put out “Canadiana,” like a huge favourite called

Lucky you, they forgot the nightmare fuel that was the 'Doncha put it in your mouth' campaign xD I love showing buddies a lot of the old commercials like these since they're just so uniquely Canadian. Another really good old one was kids going into a plastic surgeon looking horror shop and the tag line of 'why be you, when you could be me?' with these young women walking out looking all the same. Made it much easier to want to be a little different growing up lol

"Doncha put it in your mouth," is still mentioned today between my siblings and I. Mostly because one of the times we heard it my sister was in the kitchen making up a new applesauce recipe while my brother and I were coming up with new, funnier lyrics for the song in that PSA.
"Don't ya put it in your mouth. Don't ya stick it up your nose. Don't ya stick in your bum--" and just as we finished the last line, my sister walked into the room and said, "it's rather tasty" and my brother and I burst into helpless laughter as my sister looked at us completely confused until we recovered enough to tell her what she had just said would be "rather tasty."🤣
Ahh, the good ol' days 🥲😆

you instantly read the first severed head ad as "Eat when you're hungry" more than anything to do with nutrition, and then they had the same actor do the "Move for at least 30 minutes a day" spot. Body Electricity is not only an earworm that will stay with you but it's got the message of the previous two mixed together, with a focus on nutrition but also telling you to eat when you're hungry and to move around so the food can do its work. the sleeveless shirt kid who played the bully in the Walk Away Tell Someone series seems like he really had fun with the role. Words Hurt could air today and its message would still be relevant. i think the "I'm just a TV!" was made by REBOOT studios when they were at their peak of power at YTV. it could have been part of the training arc between Season 2 and Season 3 of Reboot that made the Renegade arc so much more visually appealing but the Young Guardian arc looked really good too and i think everything after Bob disappeared was Reboot III and the new art style with the updated software and a bunch of new computers paid for by the Canadian Government. if i'm remembering the musical correctly, the Web Riders arc starts when Enzo and AndrAia and Frisket get trapped in the games but turn themselves into NPCs to trick the game so they can travel through the games and then i think they end up in different systems cities and peoples until they find themselves in this place: Mainframe

I was in Canada when these came out, but I was an adult. I don't remember any of them. I do, however, remember when the topic of schoolyard bullying started to hit the media in the late 90s, early 2000s. I was shocked that bullying was only ever described as words, taunts, teasing, insults, name calling, etc. I'd grown up in a rural, redneck, Canadian town where bullying was a lot more than words. I was regularly punched, kicked, slapped, shoved, thrown down, grabbed, stuck with needles, hit with rocks, etc. If it was a boy doing it, and I told an adult, they'd say, "Oh, he likes you but just doesn't know how to show it. Be nice to him." If it was a girl or girls, adults would say, "Girls are just like that. They're so mean." These PSAs saying "just walk away," or "tell an adult" seem hopelessly naïve to me.

Wayyyy back, I think it was produced by the MTO / Ministry of Transportation Ontario; in winter they would trot out an animated message about how drivers should respect snow plows and salt trucks, and especially to keep the proper distance behind them. The hook at the end was the narrator asks, "What do we have to do? Put in a tail gunner?" And the animation would present a truck's tail gate, then a figure popping up from the top of the truck's rear, aiming an old style machine gun at the viewers. That's as best as I can remember it.

(you wouldn't believe how much house hippos poop! Took weeks to clean it all up).
Distincltively Canadian messaging. I can't imagine American PSA's telling kids to be whoever they are inside. That would be considered communist subversion! Amrican Children have to be told who they are!! What if they turn out to be drag queens or worse, Socialists !?!?!?!

It's synchronicity that I was just speaking to a friend about the old PSAs and how we really should have them back again to educate people, young and old about a variety of social issues. Really, those things never go out of fashion as you said, they are all still difficulties people young and old have today.
In Ontario, CANADA, we had the "house hippo" PSA on tv all the time. I'd never seen the one about the little boy being hungry or exercising. The "body electricity" PSA was also, on tv all the time. The bullying PSAs and the girl calling nasty names were also on tv a lot. Yes to the overbearing mom and the hobbies PSA. Yes to the child abuse PSA. The mouse and cheese safety PSA was on a lot esp. during breakfast, lunch, after school and all cartoons shown on TV.
I certainly don't remember them extending into the '90's in my province. Well no, that's not entirely true. The body image PSA's did continue now that I'm thinking of it. There were also a LOT of milk PSA's talking about vitamins, minerals, health, growth etc. Yes, the milk PSA's did go on longer.
You're so right. These type of PSA's should be put back on television in Canada and around the world really. But no, these aren't on tv any longer, not for a long time. The last time I remember PSA's like this was the mid to late 1980's for the most part and a few like the body image and milk PSAs went on into the 90's but not as often as in the 70's and 80's. By the end of the 90's they were pretty much gone.
