This was a sick video I've got a tb and have thought about doing a turbo setup but being new to the 4x4 scene all the research has been a put off this video just solved and explained pretty much everything thanks mate keep up the awesome work
This is MINT! I put my turbo on a while before you uploaded this but you have put all the info i could find on the web and more into one video, AWESOME! For anyone watching this for a TB45 turbo install, based on doing mine and what i have found on the web most of this applys to TB45 as well, including the water drain in the block and the oil feed position and thread. I wish you did this earlier lol, i have learnt most of these lessons the hard way...

Thanks for checking it out mate. Only real difference is the injectors. Need a top feed rail conversion, and the forward facing plenum doesn’t work. Also keep in mind the smaller rods, can’t handle as much power.
Bloody ripper clip!! Highly appreciate it when people do a good video on what it costs average Aussie joe blow to do these things. I wish there was a video like this on hiluxs, deciding to not follow the crowd with a ct20 has been a headache at best but hopefully it’ll pay off with my boost curve! This was a good watch and I’m not even looking to build a tb!
Hey mate, love your work, very informative. I refurbished my TB42e about 2 years ago and had a custom made headgasket made from a mob in NSW and I got my self a set of ARP head studs, they make ones with the right thread that goes in the block but I had to cut about 10mm off them. They work great.

Great vid! As a td42 owner it’s great to get this info for a good alternative to a Barra on an LS conversion with probably less long term headaches with reliability etc. Impressive torque and power from your setups, do you know if they have crank snapping issues like a tuned up td42? Do they share a similar bottom end design?? Cheers
In my opinion it’s a better option than an engine conversion! As far as I know I Havnt seen any cranks broken. Possibly less harmonics in the petrol engine. The bottom end design is fairly similar!
I dont drive my tb42 above 2 thousand for normal driving. But mine does have about 400k on the clock. Clock broke first, still all factory. Wonder if a turbo would help the 24litres to 100kms

Thanks mate. Hard to say, depends on the life it’s had. Wouldn’t hurt to pull the head off and check out the cylinders. Get the head checked out and chuck a fresh gasket in with new bolts.
Bottom end doesn’t need anything if your not chasing huge numbers. I updated to individual coils with the Haltech. No need for the dizzy then, only for the cas
hey mate, great video. I've got a couple of burnt valves in my TB, so I will be ripping the head off and replacing the valves, machining out and replacing the seats and putting in better springs and new gaskets and O-rings etc. As I am definitely chasing more power I want to accommodate future upgrades, the car goes pretty well how it is but what are my options for bigger valves? is there room in the head for them and enough gap between the valves for them? and if so where can I get them? don't want to spend a crazy amount but would like to do that if I am going as far as doing the machine work anyway... I will also be porting the head too. thanks.

Im planing on a tb42e turbo low boost maybe 8psi but I want something that will get boost early on I don’t need it to do 15psi at 5500 rpm just want it to come on early and hold until about 4500 at most. @@robertmaher2981 personally wouldn’t waste my time, if your only looking at using it for a month or 2 you’ll then have to re make the dump pipe and your lines to mount a new one. The sizing is pretty average, I ran one for a while and wish I didnt. There is heaps of info out there with dyno sheets to back it up on what’s a good size turbo. You want laggy but a hard punch high in the rpm’s then use a falcon turbo, 3582 size. If you want a low punchy boost set up then something along the lines of a 3076 .82 rear. Or alternatively a hypergear atr43 which is what I run on my race car and love it.

Thanks mate, your better off just going to a Haltech and just use the efi stuff that is necessary. If I ever do a conversion I will, once you make a start on it, it’s not too hard to sort out what you need.

Hey mate just have a quick search online. Most of the stuff I’d use is all mentioned in this video. I personally wouldn’t use that kit for efi and I also wouldn’t go into it half hearted. But that’s just me. Cheers

Hey mate, I’d just be saving your money until your off your p plates. Can’t get that much more out of them without major engine work that costs a lot and would probably make it not good for a turbo set up!

The standard afm will be the limiting factor but somewhere around 10 is where I had mine at when I had a basic set up with a nistune! Thanks for watching mate.

@@mice6390 ah sorry haha. Definitely won’t see the rpm like a double overhead cam motor will, but at one stage I was revving mine to 6000. They are chain driven on the oil pump/cam. Very basic motor, but it’s like they were built to have a turbo 😂 don’t see massive power out of them but they are still impressive considering how old they are. The one in my race car makes 310kw.

Haha well Atleast the info is here now. Tb45 have side feed injectors and one piece intake manifold. That’s about the only difference. Cheers

I get better fuel economy that 24 per hundred, but also triple the power haha! If your willing to invest the money then it’s worth it.

Yep, they are great. Don’t forget a lot of the reliability comes from how the owner looks after it. That goes for any car with any motor

Would this be the same for a tb42 in a smaller car body, considering chucking a tb42 into a drift car as a cheap substitute

You should do a video on what is needed going from tb42 carby to haltech efi, and what tb42 efi parts you would need :)

The standard afm will be the limiting factor but somewhere around 10 is where I had mine at when I had a basic set up with a nistune! Thanks for watching mate.
Hey man, I have a carby car im rebuilding, not sure im ready to tackle a turbo set up as yet, just wondering the basics id need to convert to efi.
Best way is to do a Haltech with a stand alone loom! Keeps it simple and easy!

Yeah you’ll need an efi Intake with an injector rail/throttle body and you’ll need a dizzy with the cas. Coolant temp sensor too.

@@mice6390 no worries. Plenty of people build 1fz motors up and make decent power. They are double overhead cam engine.
@@DanielKistlerwas talking about the tb42 bro. Could they rev as high an overhead cam engine do u think ?? Also are they all gear drive with no chain ?? I’m kinda interested in them I have 2 petrol 80 series I know the 1fz well the tb42 I really like
@@mice6390 ah sorry haha. Definitely won’t see the rpm like a double overhead cam motor will, but at one stage I was revving mine to 6000. They are chain driven on the oil pump/cam. Very basic motor, but it’s like they were built to have a turbo 😂 don’t see massive power out of them but they are still impressive considering how old they are. The one in my race car makes 310kw.
