Jazz in Antibes
Johnny Griffin - Sax
Ronnie Matthews - Piano
Ray Drummond - Bass
Kenny Washington - Drums
Recorded in Antibes, France on 24 July 1980
Sorry about the bad video/audio quality but this is the best I could come up with from a very old VHS tape!!
On the other hand, the music quality is just superb...all four players are masters of their domain... Ronnie & Ray are just music geniuses!! and for all the jazz pianists out there, check out Ronnie's amazing solo... what a legend Ronnie is!. As for the band leader, this video and jazz history speak for themselves.... Pity that the drum solo at the end was cut short....
I hope you enjoy this video as much as I do!!

I've see list of so-called great jazz pianist with no mention of great Ronnie Matthews. What an under-appreciated jazz giant.
Big Johnny a true "Quick" Outstanding.
Ronnie Matthews is my hero.

Ronnie Matthews Shreds on the piano
I wish viewers would stop using the term "shred" when describing jazz.. "shredding" is a rock term referring to a fast guitar solo. In jazz, terms like "cookin" or "wailin" or "burnin" (or the below mentioned "steamin") are the preferred adjectives. Keep rock terms with rock music. If you want to appear hip to jazz, use the jazz vernacular. MTC (my two cents!) Am I a jazz snob? YEP!
