'It took our government 16 years to legislate. That's how much we think about women's rights in the parliament.'
Meenakshi Arora takes us back in time to 1992 to dissect why the #BhanwariDevi case in particular led to the formulation of guidelines on workplace harassment. She recounts how India got recognised world over for taking a position in law which allowed the #Vishakaguidelines to hold the field till the government legislated them in 2013.

The work done by NL deserves credit. It is not only interesting but also important for us to know about these issues. I did not know about these cases earlier may be because I was not exposed to them or made aware of them. Looking back on these cases help us alter our perspective for the better. Given today’s scenario this work by NL is of utmost importance.

    Just one correction
She was raped by Gujjars ( OBC) and rapists were supported by the local Meena MLA ( MLA is from ST)
Even a victory rally for rapists was organised in 2007 by the brother of that MLA Meena
Similar stuff happened later in Bilkis Bano case 2022

A great warrior of this era (Bhanwari Devi), who not only gave freedom to every daughter of the country to live with dignity and protection but also taught us the real civilization and true identity of women amidst a hypocritical society full of cruel and boorish men . Millions of salutes to such a divine, fierce and unbroken courageous woman.

In the interest of the environment, I hope you can allow videos to be downloaded and watched on the app because streaming consumes more energy.

There was no relavance to mentioning of the fact that the criminals were upper caste ... just as a certain religion is not mentioned on this channel ..... I have no dog in this fight .... just wanted to call out hypocrisy

I think in this context it was necessary to point out there caste. As in those times, even after decades of independence, many groups still thought(Mind you this is still prevalent in many pockets of India) they can get away with any thing just because they belonged to a certain community.

@@kbiswas3791 I understand why you are saying there are some legalities to follow when cases are mentioned on public we don't know what this case is required to say publicly or not...I m sure the speaker would have loved to name and shame the culprits...

It was absolutely fine to mention the status or those culprits who did that heinous crime considering they can be saved after all this coz they blongs to upper caste or so… now link it with Bilkis Bano case where the culprits who has been released and against their release there was an statement that they all were Hindus… really ??… being a Hindu gives a right for all males to rape woman and kill mankind?? A criminal is a criminal and should be treated as a criminal period
