Part 5 of 5: In this video, I fix on the brakes, to make those a little more gooder. Resolve the rear end track bar bushings, and put the fuel system back to the original NASCAR spec. Then, of course, a proper test.

Derek is an accomplished problem solver with a mountain of knowledge combined with the ability to say, "I don't know," but then figure it out. One way or another. And, usually by doing the Right Thing. And, that's usually how I define genius without needing to know an IQ score :)

35+ years ago I was 14 yrs old, helped dad put new front fenders on the old suburban.. got them lined up & gapped 100% ready for paint .. in a fit of dad wisdom, (trusting me more than he probably should have), he told to back it out of the shop. Well ... lookin out the back i forgot where the front was, dialed the wheel once I saw daylight and crunched one fender into the overhead door frame. Dad was pretty good about it ... but man did I feel bad .. I knew he'd saved to buy those instead of patching the old ones. There was a lesson there about knowing when not to start yelling that I learned later when I looked back at that day.
Dead duct tape? Throw it in the nuclear microwave box for half a minute .. like new again.

That kind of looks like the basic framing for guys old 1949 Alice Chalmers tractor hitch assembly... The back end would bolt to the piece of angle iron under the varnish reservoir... And then you would have a hoop that would wrap around the smaller bit that moves forward and backward. It wouldn't need to stay stationary forward and backward only up and down as the part of the hitch would just wrap around that and it would just keep it at the right height which would also explain why the piece of angle iron is bent in the center if a fella was trying to pull something too hard and heavy with it... Derek, The small bracket was used as a bumper support (to keep center from getting bent)/ make shift hitch usually for a small tiny trailer. The longer bracket was used as a gas tank puncture protector. The car was probably owned by fella who worked at a large plant. My grandpa had one on his Coronet, It was easier to back into your parking space rather than pull in so when you went home you could get on your way easier. They also made good tow points for removing small trees and shrubs.

I don't remember what engine it had but it ran pretty good. Sold it to a friend and a few years later he sold it to a farmer in PA who cut it off behind the doors, bolted some wood to the frame and used it on his farm to haul hay. For all I know it's still runnin'. Great stuff you do saving these old classics. Thanks, Dereck.

      * Classic 1960’s Surf Safari all the way to Huntington Beach. We didn’t have proper roof racks back in the day so you just put some towels down and strapped the boards (4) on with what ever you could find. Derek, my grandfather, Mel, loved Buicks; he had a ‘51, a ‘61 LeSabre, a ‘66 Electra (he and Myrtle took that to Vegas numerous times, and he said that when they were out west he never went below 90 mph ) and a ‘75 Electra 2-door 225, what a behemoth. (The four-door ‘75 is the longest Buick ever built). He later bought an ‘85 Electra or something like that, but what a piece of junk, by that time GM was dropping Olds engines into them-the salesperson never told him and he about flipped when he found out. Was so angry. Anyway, your videos of your ‘63 brought so many good memories of my grandpa and his cars, he lived for driving, and especially driving them fast. Thank you.

Just want to say thank you, Derek. You inspired me to go ahead and don't give up on my 89 golf, was about to sell it because it was parked for a while. Turned out nobody wanted and it was going to scrap. Thanks to you I dug deeper and found out the issue: my friend put diesel in it instead of gas... Europeans do love diesel... Not fuel make it happeners though...

I have to say thank you Dereck. I just watched all 5 parts. Awesome awesome awesome!!! You really brought that car right around and made it something that can be driven safely and enjoyed again for someone. If it weren’t for guys like you, that thing would’ve just sat and rotted and eventually wound up in the car crusher. Absolutely amazing. When I started with part one, I thought to myself, as I often do, “why is he even bothering”? By the end of part five, I was thinking “man, I feel like emailing him and asking him how much he wants for it”!!! Can’t wait to grab a few cold snacks and watch some more of your videos… like RIGHT NOW!!! lol.

The glory days off bingo are sadly gone. 15 years ago you'd spend a week coughing out tar from the second hand smoke the Minnesota grannies were spewing from their camel non filters. They'd spend all night yelling at each other over the latest trends in hot dishes while jabbing orange bingo daubers, double handed, onto eight cards at a time. Good times.
