Just FYI - this video seemed to be less about the real reasons for Pope Benedict's resignation and much more about the conclave of electing a new pope, and all the pomp and circumstance, as well as glorification of hallowed church tradition, that goes along with it. I would have preferred more depth and focus on the reasons for Benedict's resignation; we all know that Benedict resigned amidst a flurry of many different scandals, but tell me more, besides just naming or identifying the scandals, please...

After a long pontificate like the one of Karol Woityla, it is a long tradition in the Catholic Church to elect a very old Pope to insure a rather short pontificate - as a transition towards the next long pontificate. But medicine has advanced so much and life expectancy has risen so much, that even electing an 80 year old pope doesn't ensure a short pontificate. Chances are high that he might live until 90 or even 100. So it is only natural that new ways have to be found in this modern world we are living in and voluntary retirement is the very best solution. It doesn't help anybody to have a geriatric bedridden Pope for years.
The qualities and qualifications conclave takes into consideration are only gained through time, and experience. Have you ever met a bishop, or cardinal under 60? That being said many modern Catholics, especially in America, see the Vatican as a museum. Filled with holy relics, the bones of ACTUAL saints, and beautiful art. The astronomical, and scientific institute is the most advanced by far. But the corruption that has disgraced our faith for millenia refuses to die. We like the pope, but the days of believing he's the embodiment of christ are long gone.
This documentary is NOT about why Pope Benedict XVI Really Left the Vatican. It is concerned with the process of transition, and particularly the inclinations of Pope Francis.
The only thing that I have learned from this video is that 600 years ago, there were still people with integrity who could resign if, and when, something was against their conscience.

Some of these quotes are difficult to understand. From the Cross, Christ provided a son for His mother, and a mother for St. John. Those 2 words are all about the family.
Christ meant that you must put God above all else in your life.
Some of these murky statement may be the result of a faulty translation.

This video explains much about how Roman Catholicism came to elect a South American socialist as its leader; but not much about "why did BXVI really leave the Vatican". (Hopefully, next time the RC's will pick a pope who better reflects its theological life and practice.)

I knew less about the reason for Benedict XVI's resignation than I did before watching this video; that said, it was well produced and showed some of the mystique of the Church which has made the papacy relevant for over two thousand years. It contributed to him resigning not just that he was feeling weak and unable to be a good Pope. Joseph Ratzinger known as the former Pope Benedict the 16th became the inquisitor general/master of the Vatican. This man has or had (he's 95 now) a brilliant mind and was very well disciplined in all his offices and achievements throughout his professional lifetime as far as I can tell. Pope Benedict studied all the apparitions of our Lady of Fatima, Akita, Garabandal, Lourdes, etc. He concluded that they all bore basically similar messages. He also found out that a seer of Garabandal revealed that he was the last true pope. So, he wanted to know early who the antichrist was. By doing so he hoped to shorten the reign of the antichrist. Because he was a pope ameritus, and he knew that his successor would outlive him, he wanted to at least mitigate some problems created by the antichrist. So, in my opinion, his resignation was a good thing.
No altar boys were injured during the filming of this documentary, although some complained of minor abdominal pain and emotional scarring.
