Without people like you these crimes would be forgotten, the victims lost forever you are keeping lines of enquiries open and ensuring the victims aren't forgotten even one hundred or more years after with people like you crimes can still be solved. Thankyou
Around 1987 when I was about 17 I had a very strange, distressing encounter with a weird elderly man on Hindley Railway Station. It was a Summer evening around 7pm. I was going and meeting my friend in Wigan. Anyway whilst waiting on the platform this elderly man walked up to me, he had blood and scratches on his face and was crying. He kept repeating he had murdered some boys, he said “those boys from Farnworth” and pointed to Bolton direction down the railway. I had never seen him before and I never saw him again thankfully. I was so distressed because there was no one around that I ran up the station steps and went home. When I told my mum she said the man probably had dementia or something and didn’t know what he was saying. It was years and years later that I discovered about these strange attacks in Farnworth.
This sounds truly frightening. And to mention the year 1987, so many years after the events, it seems a very odd thing for this man to even bring up, until less of course he did know something. We both hope you came to put this to the back of your mind over the years and are okay now.
@ yes I’m fine thank you. But it comes come into my mind now and again. Several years ago I Googled it when it came in my mind and then I saw about the boys in Farnworth and there was one particular article I think it was from the Bolton Evening News that stated the description of the attacker and it said the boy who survived said he had spots or a rash on his face and probably had a skin condition. Apparently the police had been around the local area to the all the doctors and chemists to see if they knew anyone who had been there regarding seeking treatment for their skin. I have looked online again and I can’t seem to find this particular article online anymore. Anyway I thought the elderly man on the station had scratched his face but maybe it was a skin condition that he had. I definitely remember that his face was bleeding because he kept coming nearer and nearer to me and I was scared of the blood touching me. It was a truly terrifying experience. I remember my legs feeling like jelly. I mean looking back it hindsight I just a kid, I was terrified I thought maybe he had a knife in pocket and was going to stab me or something. He was a very old man to my teenage self back then but maybe he was in late sixties or early seventies. People dressed old back then. I remember he wore a light greyish colour suit and I think he was wearing a flat cap. I wonder if he moved away in the 1940s or 50s and came back many years later to the area? He must have had a local Lancashire accent because it would have been one thing that I would have noticed if he hadn’t. So I am assuming Wigan, Bolton, Atherton, etc. PS I remember it was 1987 because I was at Wigan College at the time because I was meeting a friend from my course and it was a year before I started my first job and that was definitely 1988. I find your videos very interesting by the way. Keep up the great work. Best wishes to you both ❤️
A sad sad story, those poor children...and no justice for them. Thank you for bringing their stories to us. First time hearing about them. Again so sad.
I am farnworth born and bread. And still live there I never knew about this. wow how time forgets. thank you guys . im watching and posting. they are angels now .
What harrowing sequence of events and what a mystery the children have never been found. A great presentation once again, thank you and keep the Days of Horror coming.
Hello, what an interesting video to watch. Even more so because Patricia Mckeown was my mum. She talked quite a lot about what happened to her that day and how it effected her and her family. I do have to just point out that my mum and her sisters did not attend st James. She and her sisters all attended st Gregory's junior school in Farnworth.
When we cover these stories, we have to rely on newspaper articles for 90% of the information. The rest we use books and magazines. From memory, one of the newspaper cuttings reported Patricia and Sheila were classmates, but as we showed in this video, the press also reported Quentin's murder having taken place in a completely different part of Farnworth to the one in which it actuall occurred. Why the journalist got so much information wrong, I honestly cannot answer, but it does make it more frustrating for us when we cover these stories only to discover AFTER filming that some of the information is wrong.
A complex story but you did a great job! Really appreciate the time and research you put into these! Will have to watch it a few more times I think. Very sad case indeed!
Another great one guys! Really appreciate the work you put in to these stories and bringing them to life by going on location. I absolutely love how you pay your respects to the many victims. I look forward to watching your channel grow. 😊
I’ll be at work until 20:00 as usual but I’ll catch the video when I get home. Keep up the great work you two, love the broader strokes as well as the relatively local aspect you often cover. Every week is a reminder that the past was the WORST when it came to solving all but the simplest of crimes. Unless it was confessed or witnessed then you were pretty much away Scot free.
What a horrible case poor kids, I think they were connected. When I was 4yrs old a man talked me into going with him ( I cant remember what he said now) he took me up some backings luckily my cousin came round the corner he ran off. I have never forgotten it God knows what would have happened. Thank you Chris and Vickie you always do a great job! 👏👏👏👏💕
Another great video! Also, you've got me worrying about my nieces again now, even though they're older than these poor children, street-smart, and the older one boxes... Still, anyone who would harm children is a monster, and I'm glad whoever committed these crimes is well gone by now!
Hello chris and vickie what a fantastic video but what a heartbreaking story and especially heartbreaking for the children. I definitely think all incidents are connected I will watch video again tomorrow. And congratulations you should have a million subscribers I did leve a comment to thank your boss 😊
Thank you Emma. Yes I do think a connection between the girls but I think the boys was another predator imo. Yes thanks for the other comment too. You have a great week 😊
Great video. St. James school was at the junction of Piggot Street and Buckley Lane. In the video you can see the original school when you show the street sign of Piggot Street. The school is in the top right of the shot. It is the red brick building with large windows. I taught there in the early 1970’s before the new school was built in its current position.. I had never heard of these disappearances even though many of the staff lived locally and had taught there for many years. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Mark for clarifying the school. We sort of thought it looked too modern when we saw it, and I said I think it may have been a different school, slightly further away.
The whole bicycle theory and how some other children say that they saw her riding on the crossbar, I just cant get my head around. To be taken away in that manner, I would have thought MORE witnesses would have more than likely have noticed her, especially wearing a green coat as that may well have stood out. But to also never be seen again is harrowing. I cant imagine what her parents went through all those years.
I find myself waiting and checking for your next videos . Love them , there so good . I used to live in Accy , n find the stories fascinating, 2 of my girls still live there. I introduced them to uz , and they too are now keen followers
That's a thought provoking mystery! I remember as a kid playing on the streets in the mid-late 70's that if an older boy on a bike cycled passed us a few times in a day, then we would eventually not think of them being a stranger, as each time they go past they would 'nod' then 'smile' then say hello' then 'ask your name' etc, each time they cycle passed us they would get more info from us, and by the time the street lights were on, it felt like we had a new older friend, maybe this was the same for the 1st young girl? she didn't go off with a stranger as such because in her eyes as a 6 year old she'd made friends with her captor without possibly asking his name? and an 18 year old to a 6 year old is ancient!!! lol I have no idea about the boys, it's just so sad that children this young were targeted 💔 You both brought an excellent case forward, but I'm on the fence. ❤💙💜
Thanks, Jen, for sharing your views with us all. Yes, it does make you think, doesn't it 🤔. I think the boys were a different predator to the girls. Thanks for also joining in the chat tonight 😊
Thanks guys I really enjoyed watching your new video today it was a sad one I had tears in my eyes😢😢 I hope you do more videos like this one keep up with the good work guys xx ❤❤
A great video and such a sad story. I feel like someone had to have known or possibly just suspected something but we’ll never know. Have to watch this one again.
The main railway line was from Great Moor Street in Bolton and on through to Patricroft. The other railways 'the Y' you described were part of a local colliery network. Fascinating documentary. Great work 👍
The newspapers really threw a curve-ball as many have written of the attack on Quentin and David being near to Fern Street and the Bolton - Manchester line, which we know was false. I can see why people get this wrong as their is an old bridge there, but as the 1970s newspaper article clearly shows, the old bridge where the attack took place was demolished and can be lined up using that article and police crime photos.
@@DaysofHorrorit remains a mystery who did these crimes. Doubt whether anyone will ever find out. The land was very open in them days, and you could be in Little Hulton, where I now live in no time. Think I read of a witness account where a man was seen riding a bike in the direction of Little Hulton after one of the attacks
What an awful series of events. I can't imagine how stressful living in the area would be for parents with children wanting to play out with the offender still on the lose. You would have thought a sick individual would be easy to catch. Well presented guys. A difficult one to cover.
Thank you Diddy for yoir support as always and kind comments. You cannot imagine living in that area at that time with constant fear for your childrens safety 😢
I grew up with the story of Sheila fox and quentin Smith, these two cases where still told to children in the 60s but our parents still thought it was OK to walk to school alone. The story had changed quite a lot then and people added things of there own to the stories. So I'm glad I know the real story now
Another fascinating and very sad tale with, sadly, no conclusion as to who dunnit! Super research again guys, thanks for the story. You have a good theory there Chris.
hello vickie and chris this is a real mystery and a sad story so many children involed in the 1940/ 1950 not many people had a car to get around so it looks like a local man with a bike ? thank you both so much for the video and again the hard work . and just to let you know my back op is healing still no results as yet love to you all from trev and chris down south xxxx
Was a difficult one to cover with so many children involved and it ishard as it does stick with you for sometime after filming but these children and the incidents to need to be remembered. So glad to hear your doing well after your operation. I bet Christine has been looking after you. Fingers crossed you get the results soon. Awful now waking up and going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark. It is like during the week you see no daylight (well not in my job as no windows in my office 😢) So we need to make most of weekends now, going out filming and praying for good weather. Hope you can pop in the live on Thursday 31st at 7pm, just having a chat chat. You both take care ❤
The housing estates in Farnworth were interlocked by ginnels and alley ways. It would be easy on a push bike to make their way to Atherton or Leigh. There were also old mine shafts and slag heaps all around that have now been filled in and built on. Little children did walk to and from school back then. I worked in Farnworth and it was surrounded by fields where a push bike could easily get there. I think the man came from outside Farnworth and had been watching the kids at St james' while riding his bike. Brilliantly told and thought provoking, thanks guys xx
Anytime crimes like these are committed. it's tragic, but when children are involved, it is especially sad. It takes a certain kind of evil to hurt a child. Thank you, guys, again for another interesting video!
I know this area and was told these stories by my Nan. Good job in reporting on this. Very sinister. I agree that if a 6 year old was confronted by a "stern" adult back then, saying they had been told to "take them home" they would have done as they were told. And that isn't blaming the victim.
@cassandrade-waolfe6926 aww thank you, we really appreciate that ❤. We do have quite a backlog but more pleased with our current work using better camera and filming shots. We are blown away from your support and everyone else's. ❤❤
Great video guys, well done❤ wow, who does this to kids and why did it stop without capture, surely someone must have known something, its mindboggling. 💜
Thankyou for putting over this sad story, very difficult one for you ,i do have a feeling that the guy was local,he knew the children, it just has to be , because if he wasnt local ,4 children wouldn't of been picked, an im sure someone in his family knew it was him, but couldn't bring themselves to come forward, maybe his mother or a sibling, maybe he was mentality disturbed, in those days children were more trusting of people as times were so different back then ,thankyou for this one xx😊
It's a sad outcome for all the children involved, but it's mysterious that nobody connected these crimes at the time. One day, hopefully, more evidence will come to light 😢
Thanks, Juile. Yes, over a month researching and then the filming and two hours alone looking for the grave to no avail and then the editing before the video is complete for you all to view 😊
Norman William Green could be the murderer, he lived with his mother in Hall gate, Wigan directly facing the school I went to, the first boy he murdered was William Harmer, a boy who lived near me, William was found stabbed just at the bottom of the street I lived in, I was 8yrs old at the time but I remember it as though it was yesterday, thank you for an interesting story x
Norman William Green is a story we do have lined up. His is another fascinating case, albeit tragic in terms of the boys he killed. But I do wonder how plausible it is for him to have been the murderer of Quentin?
Good morning Chris and Vicki, this story is so sad😢 poor little Sheila Fox. So innocent and so young, probably went along with what this person said to her. Probably definitely someone from that area, and someone probably knows something but they not coming forward. The man you mentioned Norman William Green definitely sounds like a good suspect. Thanks for looking for Jack Quintus Smith's grave, and of course doing it in a very humane way, and of course showing respect to the people now living in that area. Thanks again for sharing 👍👍👍
So sad these stories that involve innocent children😢I tend to agree that somebody wouldve at least had a suspicion over all those years. The Yorkshire rippers wife and his family were apparently unaware of his deeds,so its hard to say really.Another interesting story, thanks as always👍
What a sad story, I can't imagine what those families did, and probably still do, went through; especially the family of the little girl that disappeared, my heart goes out to all of them. I agree with your thoughts about a possible candidate for the stabbing of one and the killing of the other boy, seems very plausible to me. Wonder if it would be possible to find out where he was (or not), at the time of the murder. Told, as always, clearly and with respect, thank you.
That was so good Chris and Vickie- before I watch again , I was going to mention about the culprit possibly being military - were there any barracks or air bases not too far away? Just a thought- also did all the children know each other living in the same area? X
Patricia and Sheila were classmates, if one newspaper article is correct in reporting. As for Brenda and the two boys, I honestly do not know. As for military, Peter Griffiths WAS an ex-serviceman, living in Blackburn at the time.
Thanks as always, Carol, for your support and lovely banter in the live premiere with everyone. Glad you enjoyed the video in the right way so to speak. Hope to see you on Thursday. Have a great week 😀😊
Another great video, Chris and Vickie. For me, I think the girls were connected but the boys were attacked by a different predator. I feel sorry for all the parents involved and the victims.
The only ones who know what happened have either gone to their grave or will still have a family secret A heartbreaking story never to be resolved Close to home for me as I’m from Bolton originally & also worked in the X Ray Department at Bolton Royal Infirmary long before it was demolished Once again well researched Chris & Vickie I have shared it on Facebook & to local Bolton groups
Thanks Lune for sharing on various platforms for us😊 Yes, I think someone must have known something, but could you keep it a secret? If you shared a secret like this with children involved, could you actually keep it a secret for someone else. I know I could not. Thanks for watching, we do have a few Bolton ones to cover yet, too.
Im surprised he wasnt seen more in the community,in the 40s all neighbour's used to chat on their doorseps, I thought Peter Griffiths may have had a hand in these crimes Thanks for posting such a sensitive topic RIP ❤ little ones
Hi Chris Hi Vickie. I don't honestly think that after 80 yrs anyone can be absolutely sure of the guilt of a person, relative or not. But at the time the perpetrator or perpetrators would almost certainly acted differently after such an horrific event. Even subtle things like being interested in the crimes, becoming quiet and withdrawn or an unhealthy need to talk about the crimes being reported. Not everyone can see or understand these character changes and not everyone wants to understand. Things become diluted with time, not talked about and even forgotten. I think with these old cold cases they get shrouded in Myth, to the point that people will not talk anymore but rather go on hearsay. And hearsay can be dangerous and best not talked about.
Had myself a little rewatch , & light bulb moment ✨️, always near a school !. ..a pattern that still repeats itself in many stories as the yrs went by & crept up to nowadays, always nr a school..😢, so sad..
Back in the day,(40s/50s/60s/70s) children were more gullible because they were taught to 'Respect' adults/teachers/ policemen. Ie Authority. So it would be quite easy for a teenager/adult to concoct a story. I personally think that those abductions/murders were committed by someone who lived very, very close to where all these tragedies happened 🤔. Thanks both for all your hard work/research on this terrible topic. 🫶
My mum used to live just off Miry Lane and knew Green. She used him to frighten me off talking to strangers. The effects were so well rooted that when my grandfather died I punched one of his brothers (a police superintendent) in the face when he tried to pick me up from school by pulling me into his car.
I think as children, parents tried their best to warn us of the dangers of talking to strangers. But adults can be very persuasive, and I think this is why Sheila's disappearance is so sad and shocking. I can understand your reluctance by not trusting your grandfather's brother!
What comes to my mind as I'm watching you walk along the avenue is that back in 1944, there wouldn't be many cars about. With there not being many cars about you'd expect people in the houses would have had a better view of what was going on outside, so I'm surprised no one noticed anything.
Me too, I'm surprised nobody saw or heard anything give the locale. I lived in a similar suburban street back in the 1980s and if someone walked down the street a wave of net curtains twitched😊
@@DaysofHorror Just like the Beaumont children in Adelaide Australia. Only that time THREE children, brother and sisters, all disappeared at the same time from a suburban street 🤨
Hi there guys its a sad story a bout these young kids it very bad back in the old days It's would have been thrust straighing for police back in them Days . so it's great story Telling So thank you guys for that hard work you did. So be safe guys
Hi guys. First Vickie's hair looks fabulous.. I think maybe the predator did offload but spoke about the events as it wasn't him!! But didn't speak about the events a lot. So I think someone did have a idea who it was. I think i may be on their death bed, but it might have been leaked. But relatives haven't disclosed because of !! Shame & retribution, maybe. It's such a terrible shame so upsetting!! Always great to remember them, especially children
Yes good point, he could have offloaded as if speaking on behalf of someone, but would you if someone unloaded on you say nothing if children involved 🤔 Plausible may have been on a life sentence already health wise. Thanks for the lovely comment and I am, loving the length of my hair right now, but need a colour to cover my greys and undecided on a normal brown, auburn or black colour but when I went black last time someone called me mortisha and that stuck with me lol 😆 😀 Hope you doing well. Maybe speak with you in the live on Thursday. Take care xxx
Thank you for the kind words. This is a story we had heard about and read so many articles on, we didn't really want to do it the same way as others. That's why we looked into the old newspapers, and when we began seeing links with a character known as The Terror, we just knew we had to cover it the way we did. So many similarities and all within a small radius, it is a story we had to cover for ourselves.
Nothing wrong with your theory Chris, might be closer to the truth than we know, and unfortunately we'll never know. Thanks Chris and Vicki 👍 A very bad tale, but well put together 😅l
Aww what a shame , poor kids and their families. ✝️ god bless. Evil man hope he paid for his crimes.. great story as sad as it is. Thank u Chris and vicky for all the research. Lisa xx ❤
Thanks Lisa for watching and commenting. I just cannot imagine how Sheila parents dealt with not knowing what happened to their daughter and the boys parents too 😢
Not sure if it was someone local or not with the abduction off Sheila there are so many possibles. It's so easy for young children to get duped into going with strangers . My friend who was only five who we played with nearly went off with a man who said his mum needed him home fast . The killer obviously knew the area well .wondered did the farm employ seasonal farm hands like they did back then . This one has really got me thinking .
Never heard of this till now i grew in radcliffe not that far from farnworth never new about this was giants seat the camp ground around then as i no its a few miles away from farnworth but walkable it would.fit with the transient straight down whats called ringley road west i think dunno what it was called back then
I don't think many people owned a car back in the 1940s? So probably the attacker would be local. In the first victim's case , Sheila Fox, perhaps someone signalled to her from their doorway and she went over. Did the police interview all the residents along the child's route home ? That she was abducted by bicycle seems a bit improbable. I wonder who locals thought could've possibly done it ?
5 young boys would later say that they had seen a man matching that of the attacker on Jack Quentin Smith, and he was driving a light blue van. This was in 1948. Nothing more was made of this though.
Locals would've been on to any local or regular visitor driving a light blue van then. Your walking the route of little Sheila Fox really brought home the weirdness of her disappearance from those quiet suburban streets. Wish you could do a walk through covering the streets where the Beaufort children were last seen. We'd need to crowd fund for two return tickets to Adelaide, Australia though.
We'll done guys again you have put so much work in it unreal just love ❤️ it My opinion and it just that I think it was someone living in the the area well known worked in the school church area very close the children were taking a short cuts to school they were studdied by the killer War was just ended And I know the old adage don't speak to strangers but these people are not strangers it very very rarely they are there was no profiling at that time Children went in and out of homes all over the street and even the adults would have been innocents that time the birds and the bees would have been basic another type of relationship would have been unknown this area would have been middle class upper good spacious housing for that time very well kept family's would have been young anyone looking in from the outside would have been spotted they were two story houses it's the field the school church railway area And in fairness to the police they had a fair idea who it was but to get the info And the Gypsy letter did you notice how they blamed the group not an individual there was hate in that letter the poor gypsys it was obvious they never done it but who was the hater and what did this hater know what were they hiding the gypsy would have worked with farmers at that time breaking horse slits potatoes harvesting crops making buckets etc and even local people mending pots pans jugs buckets so they been known by the people It was middle class guy living in one of those houses Good work again guys
I wonder what the commonality is, did they go to the same church. Or maybe the attacker was a person of trust clergy, teacher or police officer. Thank you for another interesting video.
I think the question is, why did the murders stop? Was the murderer incarcerated, dead, moved away? I've absolutely no doubt that she wouldve gone with a stranger, they can be very persuasive, that's why kids go with them. Was stranger danger a thing back in the 40s, as you said, they were different times. Your choice of green as the suspect is a good one. Questions, did he have family in the area, where was he between 48, and 55. Don't like Griffith as a suspect, different MO. I don't think the murderer is from the immediate area, witnesses wouldve seen him out and about
Strange one this but have a theory that whoever did this watched the children for a few days and got to know their routine coming and going to school and where they played. One last snippet of information, according to family tales my late Aunt Pat was in the same ward at the same time as June Ann Devaney apparently in the next crib to her, my grandparents were distraught when they heard what had happened to that poor little soul
It seems likely to have been a local if 3 children on the street were attacked or abducted. I don't quite believe the witnesses who said they saw Sheila who said she was going with "this man." They would have recognised a local and would have enquired the name of a stranger.
Hi Criss and Vickie another sad story about Sheila Fox in those days we had the death penalty so if a sexual assault had a taken place at her age it would possibly, have killed her around that area, there was a lots of old pits ,with air shafts full of water an easy place to get rid of a body as for the other boys, I think you are right Criss Norman green looks like your man as for Griffith he should have been burnt at the stake, for what he did to June Anne Davaney another heart breaking story but had to be told thanks Criss And Vickie
Ooh yes it's a horrid thought that with all the pits and shafts a body could easily have been disposed of, but very very plausible. Thanks for commenting and sharing this theory with us Roy. Take care 😊
In 1944 because of the war the suspect could have been placed in to one of the following five categories. A serving soldier/ or home through injury, too young or too old for service, in reserved occupation and finally unfit for military service through physical or mental illness..one might wonder if the police formed their investigation based on these categories. In regards to the later murder and he two year or so gap, suspects could possibly be placed n the following categories. Became old enough for military service (conscription) was in one for or other type of a hospital, or prison. For those skilful at research these observations might make a reasonable starting point for further exploration of possible suspects.
Looking back, in the mid 70s if someone i thought was an authority figure told me to walk with them and had a good reason, i think i would have me being 6/7.
I'm in my late twenties and grew up in farnworth. The murderer is still the boogeyman here even now. My great Grandma used to tell the story of how the police came round looking in people's wardrobes for a brown suit as that what he was apparently wearing when Jack was killed.
The boogeyman image I mention in the video was something I couldnt shake off leading up to us visiting the area. And then when you add the title 'the terror', it just makes it all the more sinister. It's a really strange set of circumstances that for some reason, Farnworth happened to be the chosen place. You do wonder if it was someone local.
Yes, we know this. At the time, we felt it looked too modern, but it was one of those, is it or isn't it? It was only later, and after the video went up, we found out by a subscriber that the old school is o longer there.
From Wiki - Farnworth is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, England, 2 miles southeast of Bolton, 4 miles south-west of Bury, and 8 miles northwest of Manchester.
PLEASE remember to leave a comment, click on the subscribe button, and if you can, please share this video. We do appreciate all the support 🌹
I personally don’t think it was his or their first time nor last . He was good at hiding himself . Maybe a transient ?
Without people like you these crimes would be forgotten, the victims lost forever you are keeping lines of enquiries open and ensuring the victims aren't forgotten even one hundred or more years after with people like you crimes can still be solved. Thankyou
Thank you so much Jacky 🤗
It's absolutley shocking what happened, and to think the person or person's involved were never caught make it even worse.
What harrowing sequence of events and what a mystery the children have never been found. A great presentation once again, thank you and keep the Days of Horror coming.
Many thanks!
This was so sad. Thank you for your hard work and putting together another very interesting video.
Thanks Patricia for watching and commenting
A complex story but you did a great job! Really appreciate the time and research you put into these! Will have to watch it a few more times I think. Very sad case indeed!
Thanks Teagunn for becoming a creepers and joining in the live premiere chat. Have a great week 😊
Another story well worth listening to, and well worth watching.
Another great one guys! Really appreciate the work you put in to these stories and bringing them to life by going on location. I absolutely love how you pay your respects to the many victims. I look forward to watching your channel grow. 😊
Thanks you 😘
I’ll be at work until 20:00 as usual but I’ll catch the video when I get home. Keep up the great work you two, love the broader strokes as well as the relatively local aspect you often cover. Every week is a reminder that the past was the WORST when it came to solving all but the simplest of crimes. Unless it was confessed or witnessed then you were pretty much away Scot free.
Very true. When you get to watch the video, live to hear your views. Have a great week 😊
Thanks for watching, commenting, and joining in the live premiere chat. Yes, it is a scary world out there. Have a great week 😊
Seeing the boys faces really got to me bless them.
Thank you Chris & Vicki for sharing another great episode a real mystery this one with really no clues xx
Thank you Lee 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you chris and Vickie for bringing this video on this tragic story you bring some crime story's to us very appreciated well done
Thanks Karl, glad you enjoyed it from Vickie& Chris 😀
Great video. St. James school was at the junction of Piggot Street and Buckley Lane. In the video you can see the original school when you show the street sign of Piggot Street. The school is in the top right of the shot. It is the red brick building with large windows. I taught there in the early 1970’s before the new school was built in its current position.. I had never heard of these disappearances even though many of the staff lived locally and had taught there for many years. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Mark for clarifying the school. We sort of thought it looked too modern when we saw it, and I said I think it may have been a different school, slightly further away.
I remember being told about this by my grandma, we lived a few streets away and my grandma remembered her going missing, such a heartbreaking story
Aww thanks Rosie, love that people sharing our channel to family and friends.
Glad we did the video justice.
That's a thought provoking mystery! I remember as a kid playing on the streets in the mid-late 70's that if an older boy on a bike cycled passed us a few times in a day, then we would eventually not think of them being a stranger, as each time they go past they would 'nod' then 'smile' then say hello' then 'ask your name' etc, each time they cycle passed us they would get more info from us, and by the time the street lights were on, it felt like we had a new older friend, maybe this was the same for the 1st young girl? she didn't go off with a stranger as such because in her eyes as a 6 year old she'd made friends with her captor without possibly asking his name? and an 18 year old to a 6 year old is ancient!!! lol
I have no idea about the boys, it's just so sad that children this young were targeted 💔
You both brought an excellent case forward, but I'm on the fence. ❤💙💜
Thanks, Jen, for sharing your views with us all. Yes, it does make you think, doesn't it 🤔. I think the boys were a different predator to the girls. Thanks for also joining in the chat tonight 😊
Another sad and tragic true life story. Tastefully done as always keep up the good work guys.
Thank you
Hi vicky and Chris, another great video but a sad one, thanks for posting
Thanks for watching and commenting Dorothy
You both work so hard on research. Well done amazing
Thanks Dawn,glad you enjoyed 😉
Hope your in good spirits
So sad. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching Sheila 😊
Thanks guys I really enjoyed watching your new video today it was a sad one I had tears in my eyes😢😢 I hope you do more videos like this one keep up with the good work guys xx ❤❤
Thanks Donna 👍
A great video and such a sad story. I feel like someone had to have known or possibly just suspected something but we’ll never know. Have to watch this one again.
Yes,someone must have known something. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
So I'm glad I know the real story now
Thank you so much. This is really phenomenal.
Thanks 👍
Another fascinating and very sad tale with, sadly, no conclusion as to who dunnit! Super research again guys, thanks for the story. You have a good theory there Chris.
Thanks for watching and commenting 😀
hello vickie and chris this is a real mystery and a sad story so many children involed in the 1940/ 1950 not many people had a car to get around so it looks like a local man with a bike ? thank you both so much for the video and again the hard work . and just to let you know my back op is healing still no results as yet love to you all from trev and chris down south xxxx
Thanks for sharing this information with us all Caron
Looking at those old police photographs, it appears there was a lot of spare wasteland back then. Makes you wonder just where Sheila is.
Anytime crimes like these are committed. it's tragic, but when children are involved, it is especially sad. It takes a certain kind of evil to hurt a child. Thank you, guys, again for another interesting video!
Thank you for watching and commenting from Vickie & Chris 😀
I know this area and was told these stories by my Nan.
Good job in reporting on this.
Very sinister.
I agree that if a 6 year old was confronted by a "stern" adult back then, saying they had been told to "take them home" they would have done as they were told. And that isn't blaming the victim.
Thanks, Cassandra, for watching and commenting 😊

Subbed and shared.
Going to catch up on the vids tonight tucked up I bed 👍

Great video guys, well done❤ wow, who does this to kids and why did it stop without capture, surely someone must have known something, its mindboggling. 💜
Yes it's a very strange case of incidents. Thanks fir watching and commenting Luna
Sad story.thank you for bringing this story to us.
Thanks for listening and watching :-)
Our pleasure, hope you enjoyed and we did it credit Heather 😊
After all that time Sheila as never been seen since, it's gut wrenching.
Yes, plausible comments, shame we will probably never know 😪
Another excellent video.
Thanks 👍
It's a sad outcome for all the children involved, but it's mysterious that nobody connected these crimes at the time. One day, hopefully, more evidence will come to light 😢
Let's hope, otherwise unless people like us retell their stories, they will end up being forgotten which is so sad 😢
It was a sad one today but I enjoyed it you must take hours to do your research thankyou very much for everything you do it was brilliant ❤
Grew up in New Bury, Farnworth. Have read up on these cases doing a local history study.
Thank you, Shirley, for watching and commenting 😊
Tragic story, but well covered Thanks guy's you do a intresting cover 👏
Thanks for watching and commenting Wendy 😀
Thanks Wendy 😊
So sad these stories that involve innocent children😢I tend to agree that somebody wouldve at least had a suspicion over all those years. The Yorkshire rippers wife and his family were apparently unaware of his deeds,so its hard to say really.Another interesting story, thanks as always👍
Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
Brilliant job guy's 🎉❤
Another Brilliant One Guy.s
Thanks Jon 😊
What a sad story, I can't imagine what those families did, and probably still do, went through; especially the family of the little girl that disappeared, my heart goes out to all of them. I agree with your thoughts about a possible candidate for the stabbing of one and the killing of the other boy, seems very plausible to me. Wonder if it would be possible to find out where he was (or not), at the time of the murder. Told, as always, clearly and with respect, thank you.
Thx guys, i have never heard of this case, im suprised its not a far more looked at case.
💯

I totally agree with you, Jane. Definitely 2 perpetrator imo. Thanks for watching and commenting
The only ones who know what happened have either gone to their grave or will still have a family secret
A heartbreaking story never to be resolved
Close to home for me as I’m from Bolton originally & also worked in the X Ray Department at Bolton Royal Infirmary long before it was demolished
Once again well researched Chris & Vickie
I have shared it on Facebook & to local Bolton groups
Thanks Lune for sharing on various platforms for us😊
Yes, I think someone must have known something, but could you keep it a secret? If you shared a secret like this with children involved, could you actually keep it a secret for someone else. I know I could not. Thanks for watching, we do have a few Bolton ones to cover yet, too.
@@Daysofhorror-vickie No it would haunt me knowing I was keeping such a dark secret

Im surprised he wasnt seen more in the community,in the 40s all neighbour's used to chat on their doorseps, I thought Peter Griffiths may have had a hand in these crimes
Thanks for posting such a sensitive topic RIP ❤ little ones
Yes always difficult to film when children involved as is upsetting and does stick with you. Hope we did it credit Jacqueline 😊
Yeah, good theory. It is so sad and horrific 😢

Hi , I enjoy the truth on what say. Awesome videos 🌹❤
Many thanks Brenda 😊
❤ from bangkok, thailand. 😊 hi Vickie and Chris 😊
Hi Jennifer. Hope you enjoyed the video
Thanks for watching and commenting, Greg. Yes, I think I'm with you on this, someone close to the area. 😊
It's very strange isn't it. How a little girl can just vanish into thin air and especially in what we felt like a close knit community.
@@DaysofHorror Just like the Beaumont children in Adelaide Australia. Only that time THREE children, brother and sisters, all disappeared at the same time from a suburban street 🤨
Hi there guys its a sad story

Yes good point, he could have offloaded as if speaking on behalf of someone, but would you if someone unloaded on you say nothing if children involved 🤔
Plausible may have been on a life sentence already health wise.
Thanks for the lovely comment and I am, loving the length of my hair right now, but need a colour to cover my greys and undecided on a normal brown, auburn or black colour but when I went black last time someone called me mortisha and that stuck with me lol 😆 😀
Hope you doing well. Maybe speak with you in the live on Thursday. Take care xxx
Kids are trusting ..innocent souls .. rest in peace little ones
Really enjoyed this video, I'd never heard of this murder before, and that's unusual for me. I definately reckon the killer was a local.
Geographically it completely fits.
Nothing wrong with your theory Chris, might be closer to the truth than we know, and unfortunately we'll never know. Thanks Chris and Vicki 👍
A very bad tale, but well put together 😅l
Thanks Mick 👍
@Daysofhorror-vickie You're welcome Vickie 🙂
A very tragic tale I think it had to have been someone local that could watch for victims then take his opportunity .

Poor Jack Quinton Smith, was it Jack that was found under the old railway?
Jack was found very close to the bridge, yes.
Ooh that's a thought about farmhands 😮. Thanks for watching and commenting Sandra 😊
I was brought up with these stories in the 60s we were scared farnworth girl
We'll done guys again you have put so much work in it unreal just love ❤️ it
My opinion and it just that I think it was someone living in the the area well known worked in the school church area very close
the children were taking a short cuts to school they were studdied by the killer
War was just ended
And I know the old adage don't speak to strangers but these people are not strangers it very very rarely they are
there was no profiling at that time
Children went in and out of homes all over the street and even the adults would have been innocents
that time the birds and the bees would have been basic another type of relationship would have been unknown this area would have been middle class upper
good spacious housing for that time very well kept family's would have been young anyone looking in from the outside would have been spotted they were two story houses
it's the field the school church railway area
And in fairness to the police they had a fair idea who it was but to get the info
And the Gypsy letter did you notice how they blamed the group not an individual there was hate in that letter the poor gypsys it was obvious they never done it
but who was the hater and what did this hater know what were they hiding
the gypsy would have worked with farmers at that time breaking horse slits potatoes harvesting crops making buckets etc and even local people mending pots pans jugs buckets so they been known by the people
It was middle class guy living in one of those houses
Good work again guys
Ooh, this is an interesting read, thanks for sharing this with is all Patrick 😊
Back in those days children walked home from school primary on there own thats why today that would not as much happen
I wonder what the commonality is, did they go to the same church. Or maybe the attacker was a person of trust clergy, teacher or police officer. Thank you for another interesting video.
Ooh now there's an intriguing theory 🤔
I think the question is, why did the murders stop? Was the murderer incarcerated, dead, moved away? I've absolutely no doubt that she wouldve gone with a stranger, they can be very persuasive, that's why kids go with them. Was stranger danger a thing back in the 40s, as you said, they were different times.
Your choice of green as the suspect is a good one. Questions, did he have family in the area, where was he between 48, and 55. Don't like Griffith as a suspect, different MO. I don't think the murderer is from the immediate area, witnesses wouldve seen him out and about
Thanks for watching and commenting. Yes I believe children would be easily led in those days too.
Yes, just such a horrific crime for the little June 😢. Glad the perpetrator caught and dealt with. Thanks for sharing your theory with us all. 😊
Hi. That was not the original St James primary. The original one is on Buckley lane

@@DaysofHorror Cool 😎 Thanks x
Take care 😊
He must have known the area
In 1944 because of the war the suspect could have been placed in to one of the following five categories. A serving soldier/ or home through injury, too young or too old for service, in reserved occupation and finally unfit for military service through physical or mental illness..one might wonder if the police formed their investigation based on these categories. In regards to the later murder and he two year or so gap, suspects could possibly be placed n the following categories. Became old enough for military service (conscription) was in one for or other type of a hospital, or prison. For those skilful at research these observations might make a reasonable starting point for further exploration of possible suspects.
Yes, i see where your going with this theory Ian and good points thanks for sharing with us all. 😊
Looking back, in the mid 70s if someone i thought was an authority figure told me to walk with them and had a good reason, i think i would have me being 6/7.
Yes, I totally agree, Tom. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
Was this person in regards to the BLACKOUT KILLER??
No, two totally different stories.
Maybe she knew him
That wasn’t the original St James school you have got this wrong
Yes, we know this as per our replies to a couple of other people. Thanks for letting us know 👍
The school you mentioned wasn’t correct
one it is the one on Buckley lane
Yes, we know this. At the time, we felt it looked too modern, but it was one of those, is it or isn't it? It was only later, and after the video went up, we found out by a subscriber that the old school is o longer there.
Farnworth near where? 🇬🇧
From Wiki - Farnworth is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, England, 2 miles southeast of Bolton, 4 miles south-west of Bury, and 8 miles northwest of Manchester.
