this just goes to show how powerful chorus members can be. As a director once told me, "there are no such things as a small roll, every one is important to the story line. Each character has their own story line"
I love how everyone is smiling at each other while someone is signing. They're all so supportive of each other! (Especially when Thayne is smiling at Carleigh)
One day, another musical will be commerating the anniversary and milestone of Hamilton and we'll all be older and gray and sobbing and trying to explain to our children and grandchildren the magnitude and history we experienced with this show. *Weeps bitterly*
HelloGudbye93 you won't care this much about Hamilton in 80 years. and even if you did ur kids and grandkids won't care enough to listen to u cry about a 80 year old show.
My great-grandfather produced the original Broadway show of A Chorus Line. I just showed this to my grandma and she is so emotional about it. It's great that the show is still getting such recognition :-)
Wait, we can make holidays out of musicals? We can do that? That's seriously a thing? Do we have a Wicked Day? A Les Miserables Day? A Phantom of the Opera Day? THESE NEED TO HAPPEN, PEOPLE!!!!
_"There's no such thing as small roles. There are only small actors. If you only have one line, OWN THAT LINE."_ _My drama class always says this!_ _Fun anecdote, I played as a boy named Edmond in a One Act called "Bad Auditions". He was the last audition and had a total of, I think, six lines bundled into a lot of body movement because he had come for a modern dance audition, not the Romeo and Juliet play. My second to last line was, "(look at casting director) If I say monologue and do a modern dance piece, will you be mad?" I took the line and I mixed it in with the way I had built my character to be; suave voice, dramatic movements, and slightly poetic. So I nudged my line at the last rehearsal. I said in a light jazzy accent, "(look at casting director) If I 'say' monologue... and do a modern dance piece.... Will you be mad (glance over at casting assistant) Will he be mad? (look back at casting director) Will you be mad?" Everyone in the room cracked up laughing at that single line and it was an amazing feeling to be able to do that. To make that line my own and know that people enjoyed it. I actually got an award for that line at our banquet two weeks later. It was nice._ _Own your lines! Don't make your line into a paragraph, but make your line and your character something that fills you with the satisfaction of knowing that you did your job! You entertained! Even if you play as a bush, you will be the best freaking bush that audience has ever seen!_
My friend did a similar thing. I don't remember the play, but his father was there that night, and there was an appropriate moment for him to look out into the audience and say "I love you dad" and I damn near cried
That reminded me of when i was playing flute and had a sol9 and the saxophone behind me "missed theor line" THEY HAD ONE JOB! ONE! And they messed it up XD
Look at the way the Hamilton principles look at the ensemble members as they sing. You can see that they have so much love and respect for them. This video is amazing!
'I'm sure Betsy Struxness, as the cast member who had performed most on Broadmore out of the ensemble at this point, wasn't remotely bothered. Especially as this was filmed long before Hamilton became 'Hamilton' winning awards everywhere.
ok what made me laugh so much you just see everyone flipping their pictures and then you see that snippet of anthony doing it the wrong way and having to flip it again
Ariana Debose, who was in the chorus of Hamilton and played "The Bullet," killed it in Schmigadoon and will be Anita in the new West Side Story movie. There is a ton of talent on that stage.
SHE PLAYED THE BULLET!? WOAHHHH She’s so cool! I saw this video before West Side Story, and am back after it popped up on my recommended, and now having watched West Side Story, I AM SHOOK. How did I not know she was in Hamilton!!!
I love that Lin got so excited when he said Priscilla Lopez's name. She was in In the Heights. I saw ITH 4 times and PL was in it every time. what a work horse. loved her
i saw hamilton earlier this year and thought samuel seabury sounded and looked quite a bit like the original then i saw this video and i was like oh thayne jasperson i wonder if he was at my show pulled out the playbill and wow he’s been playing samuel seabury for 4 years
Just saw Hamilton for the first time this week in Chicago (the cast sang "Go Cubs Go" as the curtain call). I'm in my sixties, and I also saw a Chorus Line as a young newlywed in the seventies. It is heartwarming to me how, as different as these two shows are, they recognize how they each shattered conventions in their own ways, but can still honor and cherish the musical traditions that came before them (remember that the pivotal piece the gypsies were trying out for was a spot in a chorus line backing up an old fashioned Merman-style show). The stars of A Chorus Line put as much energy and glitz into their closing number, "One", as the young stars of Hamilton put sweetness and tenderness into their rendition of "What I Did for Love". I wish all professions could bring the same innovation and energy into their work product, while recognizing and honoring the traditions of those who shaped the craft before them.
i don't know why Jon Rua is my favorite person in hamilton, like my favorite character in this is charles lee. And you see him EVERYWHERE in the musical, He's in every duel i think
Anyone else looking at this in 2020 and being like "Oh shit it's been that long??" when looking at when this was uploaded because damn it doesn't feel like that long. 4 years. Yikes.
This is just so heart warming to see people who are in the spotlight now honor the people who were in the same spotlight before them. Everyone looked so happy and glad to be there!!!!
Yup, i think peeps do that a lot with a piano or with songs: they play a part and bring another song in it like in SIX the musical, you have get down in all you wanna do, the riff is in there if you listen OwO
Pretty sure Thayne doesn't swing that way. Relationships that are public: -Ariana DeBose (ensemble) likes females -Morgan Marcell (Eliza understudy) has a boyfriend -Jasmine Cephas Jones (And Peggy/Maria Reynolds) is dating Anthony Ramos (Laurens/Philip Hamilton) -Sasha Hutchings (ensemble) is dating Ephraim Sykes (ensemble/George Eaker)

I love how they chose to make members of the ensemble sing the song. Such a beautiful wink
That's why it's called a chorus line ;)
Chorus line focused on chorus people not the people who play the big roles
And it took me half the video to figure out that was what was happening.
I absolutely love that all the solo lines were sung by members of Hamilton's chorus. Genius move.
Jaime Mastromonica I accidentally disliked your comment and had a panick attack because j didn't want you to feel bad
I love that they gave them a moment to shine!
And Jon Rua was MY Hamilton.
that was really cool how the Ensemble did the chorus =)
crazy how that is the chorus members bc they are talented in their own right.
this just goes to show how powerful chorus members can be. As a director once told me, "there are no such things as a small roll, every one is important to the story line. Each character has their own story line"
+breanna kempf But if you got to pick the part you played... you'd pick a lead XD
+Christophe Jelinski Actually there are several musicals where I would die to be in the ensemble rather than a lead :P
Same. All of the Hamilton leads are dream jobs, but to be in the ensemble would be just as good.
wrong
once I was a tree in into the woods
we didn't even need trees
jennyeet sometimes directors say things and don't mean them. But still, if you were not in the show, the show would not be the same.
Jonathan Groff nodding in approval at Betsy's solo made my heart extra happy.
I know! Betsy is bae.
Katie Badger ikr
Katie Badger and Leslie's little smirk oh my
Who is Betsy, like what does she do in the play
Do Re Mi So Cute! she's part of the ensemble.
I love how everyone is smiling at each other while someone is signing. They're all so supportive of each other!
(Especially when Thayne is smiling at Carleigh)
When the Hamilton cast is performing
And Philipa smiling aww she's always so sweet
+Tina Belcher yeah I love her
innam y y
she is so precious omg there's a moment where is clearly emotional and smiles so wide.
I love Lin "go get in your line, you're gonna miss your line"
Also this whole thing is just beautiful
Grace Gomes he didn't want them to throw away their shot
Absolutely Thoughtless *knee slap*
I love that Kelly Bishop and Leslie Odom Jr. were talking to each other in that instant. Gilmore Girls forever!
One day, another musical will be commerating the anniversary and milestone of Hamilton and we'll all be older and gray and sobbing and trying to explain to our children and grandchildren the magnitude and history we experienced with this show. *Weeps bitterly*
HelloGudbye93 you won't care this much about Hamilton in 80 years.
and even if you did ur kids and grandkids won't care enough to listen to u cry about a 80 year old show.
that sounds like a challenge
jennyeet boy Hamilton died in the 1800's and I still cry
Ali Anderson yeah but u wernt alive then, its not like you were cryin over him before the musical came out lol
HelloGudbye93 amen!
This is one of the most beautiful videos on the internet
So true!
ikr. they all clearly value and respect each other so much. :D
Yes, made me joyful
Yes ❤️❤️❤️
Agreed!
Jonathan Groffs facial expressions while the girl with the blonde hair (next to Lin) were PRICELESS

I commend Lin-Manuel for honoring Broadway.

Madison that's so great!!
OMG really?
🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thats so cool!!!
Madison what was his name?
If I were Betsy, I would not have been able to sing because Lin and Leslie were standing right next to me. ;-;
Ashflight sorry I'm new here who does betsy play
Marieisafangirl She is part of the company, which means she's a background singer. :)
Ashflight thanks so much I just don't know the names of all the actors and what characters they play yet
Ashflight she's got the best spot
She would have been working with them for a while. They'd be besties.
The way Thayne looks at Carleigh when she's singing
the way thAYNE TAKES HER HAND
get someone who looks at you how thayne looks at carleigh
Thayne is a princess so
+PAY YOUR FUCKING TAXES get someone who is as passionate as paying their taxes as you
+Mercedes Foster yes
Wait, we can make holidays out of musicals? We can do that? That's seriously a thing? Do we have a Wicked Day? A Les Miserables Day? A Phantom of the Opera Day? THESE NEED TO HAPPEN, PEOPLE!!!!
LES MISERABLES DAY!!!! I'M ALL OVER THAT!!!!! XD
Yes.
We need to figure out a day.
+Camille Jones Oui.
The musical first premiered on September 24, but the June Rebellion happened on June 5 and 6
+Camille Jones yeah.. Hmmm.. Which one...

Awesome story!
The line: And Peggy!
My friend did a similar thing. I don't remember the play, but his father was there that night, and there was an appropriate moment for him to look out into the audience and say "I love you dad" and I damn near cried
The best thing about this is Lin running around saying "Get in your line, your gonna miss your line" haha XD
That reminded me of when i was playing flute and had a sol9 and the saxophone behind me "missed theor line" THEY HAD ONE JOB! ONE! And they messed it up XD
Someone acknowledge Jonathan Groff's adorable head nod please. 3:42
you just did (:
She was kinda flat though
I can hear the "YES GURL! YOU GO GURL!"
Look at the way the Hamilton principles look at the ensemble members as they sing. You can see that they have so much love and respect for them. This video is amazing!
Imagine standing between Lin and Leslie and having them stare right at you while you sing
i would melt 😭
So. Much. Pressure

I would have a heart attack
WAIT THE oRiGINal CasT?!
Yes the original cast
THEY ALL LOVE EACHOTHER SO MUCH
THIS CAST IS MY FAVE
When I listen to Hamilton in school, I am Groffsauce when he's watching Betsy Struxness sing.
IM CRYING RIGHT NOW LIKE THERE ARE GIANT DROPLETS OF SALTY WATER COMING OUT OF MY EYEBALLS
Best comment ever
The way that thayne looked at carleigh when she was siging!
Angelica Schuyler I missed u sis! It’s the pegster!

THE WHOLE HAMILTON CAST ARE CINNAMON ROLLS 😍😍😂❤️
You mean "LINnamon" rolls!
Like what does that mean? I'm so confused
"precious cinnamon rolls too good for this world"
@@clairekalia634 Linnamon roll is specifically for Lin Manuel Miranda cause his name is Lin. Cinnamon roll is for basically anyone who’s wholesome
ok what made me laugh so much you just see everyone flipping their pictures and then you see that snippet of anthony doing it the wrong way and having to flip it again
Lara Pena he really is a cinnamon roll, ya know!
that johnathan groff high note
TALIA CRUMRINE ahh where is it?? ):: i can't find it
SunniDae hi. i’m 3 years late. it’s at 4:54 you can distinctly hear his voice above the rest.
That man has pipes
A Chorus Line was the first musical i ever really loved, and hamilton is, well, HAMILTON so this is really emotional for me.
Omg me tooooooo!
I was lucky enough to see both original casts of A Chorus Line and Hamilton and can't stop crying over this video. Thanks for incredible memories.
5:29 tho when Renee and Chris are literally jumping for joy XD
I would too❤❤❤❤
Ariana Debose, who was in the chorus of Hamilton and played "The Bullet," killed it in Schmigadoon and will be Anita in the new West Side Story movie. There is a ton of talent on that stage.
i love ariana, shes so underated and it makes me sad because shes so amazing

6:30 Hahaha Lin in the background, desperately trying to get people stand where they're supposed to stand
Who's watching in 2020? In isolation? Waiting for Hamilton to go out on Disney Plus?
AHHHHHHHHH IT’S TODAY!!! 😱🤩😍🥰🤯⭐️
😭😭😭😭😭
1:54 Oh my gosh, how Thayne looks at Carleigh... He's so touched by her performance. And then the way they hold hands at 5:00.. I SHIP IT SO HARD! 😍
Well if that doesn't just capture the spirit of A Chorus Line
…but what if Anthony sang what I did for love as Laurens/Phillip
brb gonna go jump off a bridge now

I love the way Lin-Manuel looks at everyone...that sounds so creepy, but all my lonely fangirl friends agree with me😂

Omg
YES! For a moment a feel like it was in my mind xD
Yeah I noticed that
Joseph Binmore I though I had imagined it!
I thought I was the only one😂😂 and I thought I was just imagining things cuz I listen to Hamilton too much😂😂😂
For real, though, I kind of ship Carleigh and Thayne.
Same

sorry...but when i read 'for real though' in your comment I started singing 96000...lol I'll refrain from starting a lyric chain...
Moira McGuan and not breaking your neck for respect or a paycheck (I think that's it)
I ship Thyane Jasperson and Jon Rua and them Ariana Debose and carleigh but that's just my opinion
groffsauce reacting to Betsy is me @ the entire original Broadway cast of hamilton
I love that Lin got so excited when he said Priscilla Lopez's name. She was in In the Heights. I saw ITH 4 times and PL was in it every time. what a work horse. loved her
Not to mention that, like Lin, she's Puerto Rican.
They all look at each other with a proud look, it's beautiful

It is heartwarming to me how, as different as these two shows are, they recognize how they each shattered conventions in their own ways, but can still honor and cherish the musical traditions that came before them (remember that the pivotal piece the gypsies were trying out for was a spot in a chorus line backing up an old fashioned Merman-style show).
