My son and I were in the backhoe this morning pushing snow then in the afternoon we we're knocking out Beaver dams.. I still stick to my word it's a great piece of equipment! 💪🏼💯💪🏼 Thanks for the mention buddy!!
Dyna-hoe was and is the best backhoe machine.the front and rear tire size is the same no tipping and bouncing, the hoe and stick are also better. The bucket works digging and moving more than a regular backhoe.,Dyna- Hoe is the best backhoe.
Thanks for contributing to this Mike. You had great points and insight and I think it helped to make a well rounded discussion. Thanks for checking out the video!
I will always love the backhoe! It is the first machine I ever operated at age 3. It was a John Deere 300 in 1973. My dad used to strap me in the seat with his belt so I wouldn’t fall out. This is where I learned the love of operating equipment and still have it I burning In me today at age 51. I have done so many crazy jobs with Backhoes that I even amazed myself! If it wasn’t for this machine I never would have been able to afford to build my house because I did side jobs with them every night and weekend to make money after work. I still own a 2002 John Deere 310 SG and never see myself getting rid of it! As always another great video Neil! Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
That means a lot coming from you Ed! I think the backhoe is built for guys like you and me to just fall in love with as a kid! So much on there to play with! Thanks for checking out the video and great to hear from story on this one!
Awesome video Neil! You may only produce one or two videos a week but they are always some of the best videos out there in this genre. You put historical context to today's trends and form the basis for the narrative you add to the subject. I truly appreciate your efforts and most certainly look forward to every video you upload!
Thanks Shon. That's a really nice comment. I try hard to make an enjoyable video but it takes me a long time to make them. Really appreciate the kind words.
Great video, Neil! I grew up running a Case 580C and a 416 Cat and loved them both. Now I have a mini excavator and John Deere 2210 subcompact tractor with a loader. They're all great tools and excel at different things. If i was starting out in excavation today, I'd start with a backhoe and add equipment as the business grew.
Love the backhoe! My dad has one on his property up north and recently I found out it was not running. Drove up and did a "will it run" and got it running for him again. His smile was so big. But then he taught me how to drive it. It was a special moment. Thanks for reminding me of that.
Hello from Long Beach Ca…… I spent 35 years owning and operating case backhoes. Started with a 580 C in 1977 and ended with a 580SM with 4wd, cab, 4 in 1, extension. I made an attachment (that reminds me of your log splitter) that would able me to turn all my buckets around to dig backwards. I took two case quick couplers and joined them to where one was opposite. This allowed me to tunnel under a building for inside pipe risers. I agree with diggingOK….the backhoe is the best all around construction tool. Thanks for your videos! Bob Hillman
Couldn't agree more Bob! You had a good run of machines it sounds like and that backwards attachment sounds slick! I used to be able to do that on my first 410 JD backhoe. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
The backhoe was my first piece of real heavy equipment I learn to run it definitely has a near and dear place in my heart although it may have been a Ford 555 I am a John Deere 310 guy for life love the old one and now the new one that I use for my day-to-day work thanks for all the hard work you put into your videos Neil I enjoy them and look forward to next week
I have a 420 cat backhoe and a tracked skidsteer. I've been "encouraged" by one of the contractors I work for to sell the backhoe and buy a mini ex. I will probably end up buying a mini ex for some of the tighter jobs but I don't think I can give up the backhoe. Great video Neil!
Like you Neil, my Backhoe serves me well on my homestead of 15.5 acres. Firewood, snow removal, stone driveway maintenance, lifting cabs and beds off trucks we work on, pond maintenance and the list goes on. I was torn on what to buy, but decided on a backhoe and it has served me well.
I agree - the backhoe is a great all-in-one tool - especially when it has an extendible dipper and a hydraulic thumb, 4 wheel drive, and a cab with heat and A/C. The stabilizers really dig in and can allow you to level the machine and has much more digging force (crowd and bucket) than a mini excavator. The loaders can lift 5000 or pounds and the loader buckets are generally 1.3 cu. yds. Also they are able to cross trenches and lower or raise themselves using the combination of the front loader and extendable backhoe. They can self transport up to 25 mph or can be towed on a trailer behind a one ton pickup truck. Also lots of attachments are available for both the loader and the backhoe. When you learn how to use them they are like a swiss army knife. I use mine for many different jobs.
The first machine I ever ran was a Case 580B. This thing was ancient and worked hard. But, it still kept kicking! I’ve operated a bunch of machines over the years, dozers, graders, skid steers, and loaders but the backhoe will always have a soft spot in my heart. I helped upgrade that old 580B to a much newer 580SL and put lots of hours on that machine. Great video! And great to hear the opinions of some of the other popular channels!
Great video! Frank Cunningham has made me a believer in backhoes, he is an incredible operator. Mobility and versatility is where a backhoe shines! Take care Neil!
Backhoes are great especially for some starting out My first Backhoe was a 580B. I drove it to each job I got until I could afford a truck and trail. Then I bought a 580C and and then a 580 D which I still have , I believe its a 1982 . I’m 70 now and still use it two to three times a week.I have used it in my Construction Business for 35 years doing anything under the sun. Digging , backfilling, setting walls and trusses, footings , waterlines septics, small ponds, driveways, clearing trees. all kinds of stuff
Love seeing the old home footage of the IH backhoe at work. Your 310 backhoe is the same year as me...pretty cool! It's hard to beat an industrial tractor/backhoe/skip loader if you are looking for a heavy all-around machine (aside from a skid loader). As a young kid I spent a lot of hours riding on a series of Ford 445 industrial 4x4 loader tractors (not dedicated backhoes like the Ford 555 series, but similar in size and build). My uncle was a landscaper for 40 years and he relied on the 445's as well as his JD 318 for a lot of jobs (landscaping, hardscaping, construction, farming, and snow removal). Those tractors made him a lot of money over the years. He still uses them frequently around the farm to this day. The 445's are small but nimble and can go pretty much anywhere with 4WD. Plus the little 3 cylinder diesel is a bulletproof engine with lots of torque. I sell Kubota tractors for a living but much prefer an older Ford or Deere loader tractor for loader work.
That's cool stuff Michael. I love hearing how people came up through the ranks and got to be equipment junkies like I did. I've also heard really good things about all the old Ford industrial stuff. Everyone always raves about how they were so good for their time. And as you said, even still today! Really appreciate you watching and commenting!
I can totally understand a childhood impression leading to you love for the backhoe, In my early childhood I knew I wanted to be a Truck Driver the 1st time I rode with my Uncle on his Milk route, I mostly loved having driving jobs for 45 years and still do it part time even today great video as always!!
MY first piece of equipment was a 1982 MF 50D . I don't have it anymore (I do miss it), but I still wanted to replace it for personal use. Now I have JD 3039R with a 385a backhoe. I wanted the tractor with attachments for around my property. You always say "and if I'm lucky I will see you again" Truth is we are all lucky, as well, that you take the time to edit and post. Thank you again.
I'm jealous of that 3039R and backhoe Richard. That's my dream replacement for the 755s. My FIL has the 3046R with a cab. I feel very lucky to have all you great folks willing to watch my little videos. Appreciate the kind words.
Around the tank farm the backhoe was the most used all around piece of equipment. The Case 580 series was used everyday and was the most versatile for our needs. Digging in the pipe manifold around lots of large diameter piping, electrical conduits, and hydraulic lines, plus swinging over gate vales was quite challenging at times, but it got the job done. A mini-ex was brought in on rare occasions, but the backhoe was our mainstay. Oh, and still like that homemade MIKE. It great for interviews. LOL
When I was looking at equipment to buy, most good backhoes (4x4 or not) were too heavy to haul around with 14k bumper pull trailers. Once you step up to a larger trailer, the whole CDL comes into play, etc. This is why I went with a mini excavator. A backhoe in my opinion is not super good at anything, but can do everything. Nice video sir!
Your video brought up so many great memories, thank you! I remember that we had a backhoe on my family farm very well, it was my favourite equipment to use when I was a kid. I will definitely purchase one when im taking over the farm in just a few years.
Thank you so much for chipping in on this video Frank! You're a very talented backhoe operator and it was great to get your input to share with this story/tribute/argument for how great the backhoe is. #MBGA! (already great in my book!)
Backhoe hands down 310D guy here 💘you can't ask excavator guys this question like you did they don't remember how useful they are Dirt Boss Duck out of water 😆 just kidding buddy love your channel too.
I have a sub compact tractor with a backhoe. I love the thing. It's very useful on so many things, but it has it's limits. Still, I use it for almost everything I do. I only have 1 1/2 acres so I don't need a huge machine. I'm in the end process of building a garage/ workshop and it has been a blessing to have.
I do love back hoe’s. However as a budding homesteader and 14 years of construction experience mostly in site work I think I have another piece of equipment in mind that’s not all that different than a back hoe. That being said I don’t want to speak out of turn yet. I am hoping to do an actual recorded proof of concept this coming year! Thanks again for sharing Neil!
On our farm we have a skid steer , backhoe and dozer. The skid steer gets used the most followed by backhoe but they are used for different jobs that one can’t really replace the other. On the list of needs is a excavator which hope to be getting in next couple years. But again it won’t replace any of the others just speed up fence line clearing. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks
We have a backhoe excavator skidsteer payloader and dozer. My choice would be the skidsteer we use ours daily and they are very dynamic. We farm and do excavating and tile work . Honestly through it would depend on the person and their situation. Great video keep up the good work!
Nice video!! I have a mini-ex that I started my business with. My next piece will be a skid-steer. But I guarantee that in the future it will be a backhoe. I used to work for a public utility company and we had a 580 case super m, and three mini-excavators. I remember riding that backhoe all over the county because the minis wouldn’t dig the rock that we run into here in Northwest Pa. the 4 in 1 bucket made short work of road cleanup to when working in the streets. Normally after using the backhoe all you needed was a broom and dust pan. Keep up the great videos!!!
Absolutely agree. Backhoe is very versatile. If your not a contractor doing daily work with your equipment and your using it on a homestead or for just a few side jobs backhoe is the way to go. Cheaper maintenance as well. Only one peace of equipment vs 2. I have a kubota m62 and love it. It gets into some pretty tight places and I am able to drop the hoe off and run my three point attachments behind it. It's a real Swiss army knife option as far as equipment goes.
Neil, I want to apologize. I've been watching your videos for a LONG time and this is my first time commenting. I am glad to see you growing your channel. I absolutely love your story telling style and the wife and I always look forward to new videos. We have a 2032R with the newer MSL loader and I am always keeping an eye out for new equipment. I love the variety of tasks you show and of course love all the Deere in the stable. Cheers to many more years of awesome content!
Thanks so much for saying hi. I'm glad you enjoy watching and it's still unbelievable to me how many folks are out there willing to check out these little videos. I really appreciate it. Thanks so much!
I own a construction company and we have backhoes, skid loaders and mini excavators. I will have to agree with dirt perfect! Every piece of equipment has its place on a job site. I will say that if I'm going on a job and have a choice I would grab a backhoe simply because of it's versatility. It's ground speed is faster than a skidsteer. However is space is an issue than it's to large and you will have to settle for a mini excavator. From my 15 yrs of construction experience you either see a backhoe on jobs or you see a mini and a skiddy. Great video keep up the great content
you got it right. My old Case 530 has done a huge amount of work for me....draining a swamp, digging a pond, and no toy tractor can dig up a big rootball like a real heavy machine. It's like a bulldozer, ramming into the brush.
Yup, backhoe is great ! It was the first piece of heavy equipment I bought and have kept it because it is so versatile. Mainly bought it for homestead use and then started septic installs. Bought a mini ex last year but the backhoe still comes in very handy. JD 110, wish they still made them
I started off with a Mahindra 40 hp with a backhoe. Now I have a mini and use my tractor as a skid steer and back up to the mini. I agree great piece to start with
The backhoe is a great piece of equipment. I used to operate a backhoe for a construction company I use to work for and I loved it. I was never real fond of a skid steer because I don't like the bucket being right there over top of me. Short story, I've seen a lot of people operate backhoes and skid steers and they get nervous when they automatic bucket leveler starts to level the bucket. And they will hold the lever or the pedal that they're raising the boom up and cause it to skip past the automatic bucket leveler now the level don't work anymore. I dumped a pile of rock down in the skid steer with me one day and this was before they start putting the glass doors on them . So I've been a little leery about skid steers after that not real fond of them. And yes I've seen them do that backhoe like that too. Now they're dumping dirt all over the hood of the backhoe. And the mini excavator that's a story for another day. But yes I love the hell out of a rubber tire backhoe. I think there are awesome machine and you can do so much with them you just have to take your time. 😀👍
I agree, backhoe is a Swiss army knife it can do almost anything. Are there better tools out there for specific tasks? Yes, but unless you are blessed with lots of money to buy 2-3 different machines and a place to keep them a backhoe is a perfect machine. Our neighbor bad a 310jd and a 71 f700 ford dump and that is what I grew up around and that started my love for equipment
Backhoe is my go to machine. I don’t have one and if I could get one it would be a very small one as I only have an acre and a half of land. It would also have to cut grass. Insight to why it needs to be on the small side. I have plans for removing bushes, putting in walkways and a driveway. I have trees to plant and fire wood to move. I do own a pickup and a one axle dump trailer that I have rebuilt 2x because of the amount of use. That’s it in a nutshell!😎 oh by the way I’m 66 years old and going strong. Just need a little help digging! 😬
I have had a backhoe and now have a skidsteer and mini and I enjoy having the two separate pieces of equipment that way I can load the trailer with one and unload the trailer with the other.
I have a subcompact with the backhoe. I didn’t think I needed the backhoe when I bought the tractor off my uncle but it came with it. Now that I have it, I use it all the time. My neighbors always want to use it too. When I upgrade to a bigger tractor someday, it will definitely have a backhoe
I grow up around backhoe because lot of oil fields use them and I started to learn how to run at age 5 years old now I’m 33 years old and pretty good with one
Good video as always, but the bigger debate I see is skid steer vs mini (8000# or less) when you own a tractor already. I've got a tractor and mini and have yet to find myself in a situation where I wished I had a skid steer...but I have a farm and don't have a business in construction. Take care and nice collab.
Thanks so much. Yes, that's a good debate also. I don't think you necessarily need a skid loader unless you're doing a fair bit of dirt work or other specialized chore. Thanks for watching!
My Dad bought a JD 310E used from a rental company to add to his dump truck and tractor/box blade family. I came on board with him in 2013 and after owning a skid steer and mini x, we found that for us the backhoe and tractor are the only 2 machines we need for what we do. We sold the x, skid steer and JD backhoe and upgraded to a brand new Cat 416 in 2018. We love the JD backhoe but when we went to purchase, our local JD dealer salesman wouldn’t respond to us at all. Completely ignoring us actually. Not sure if he just thought we were to small to fool with or what, but CAT welcomed us with open arms. We are very satisfied with CAT and now sport CAT hats 😂. Still love the sound of your JD as it brings back many memories! I thoroughly enjoyed the video!
Dig Drive DIY The Backhoe is the very first piece of equipment that I learned to operate and I love ❤ backhoes more then any other piece of equipment they are versatile 😀
I just bought my John Deere 3033r TLB last March and I’m a fan from digging out stumps to moving rocks and leveling my yard it does it all it’s has changed my mind set from how can I do this job to oh boy another reason to use my tractor
Looking back, I should have gotten a backhoe vs just a tractor with a 3-point. I love the versatility of the attachments, but could really use the backhoe on several projects. Thanks for the video!
Neil, I have a compact New Holland with backhoe. I find it a good value for the money and how much I can actually do with it. I take small buildings and decks out. Dig stumps and set landscaping. It's budget friendly for small jobs and a homesteader.
One of the first pieces of equipment my Uncle & Grandfather put me on was a 480C Case. The next was a 955L Cat . I'm partial to a Backhoe myself Although I grew up with & learned on 3 & 4 stick Case Controls. I'm getting more partial to Pilot controls nowadays. Mack
The guy around the corner from me has one of those old cases. He parks it on top of a hill in his yard every time he’s not running it. It’s real cool, I have a picture of it if I could figure out how to share it. This video couldn’t of been made at a better time either. I’ve been tellin everyone I want a backhoe before the end of this summer for the little ls I have. We’re in a swampy area, and when I was in the city, I mowed lawns for side cash…. Since we moved out a little further I’ve been looking for what I can do out here, started noticing everyone’s in the swamp. I wanna get into yard drainage and see about drying some people out. We have a guy up here “French drain man” on TH-cam that is awesome at that stuff, and I’m soakin up all the info he wants to share. Hey, are you going to Louisville this year? Brenna and I are planning on being there Wednesday due to our work schedules.
A backhoe started my addiction to heavy equipment. I was fascinated watching the guy dig the basement and footings of my aunt and uncle's house. A backhoe was the first piece of equipment I got to run when I first started in the excavation business. I enjoyed operating the old Ford 555 doing various jobs I was given. When we changed over to primarily prepping house sites and digging footings, that's when we swapped over to a skidsteer and a mini ex. I love all of them. Now I own a mini ex and skidsteer of my own as well as a landscaping tractor. For the jobs that I do, they are the right tools for the job. Could I do it with a backhoe? Certainly, but just really enjoy having the equipment that I have. I'm more efficient and quicker with those pieces of equipment but, I still have a soft spot for the backhoe too.
Great video and subject. I have 40 hp John Deere with a hoe attachment , not a integrated tlb, and a Deere 35G mini x. The huge difference is moving along when trench digging. With the tractor, every time a move is made the riggers need lifted, bucket lifted and a move from the hoe seat to the tractor seat. The mini is effortless and a fraction of the time. And the reach is much greater on the mini. But, I'll never give up the tractor backhoe.
My family’s in landscaping and we have a 310se as well as a bobcat 325 mini. On most jobs I dig with the 325 but the first time I really dug with the backhoe I fell in love with the extra power. We also run a snow pusher on it in the winter it’s a beast
The backhoe is great, especially for the things you use it for.In my opinion tough,I would choose a mini excavator and a telescopic handler with a trailer.Moving around a backhoe in tight spaces in Europe is hard. First time I drove a New Holland Backhoe I almost took out the garage door of the workshop while turning to get out.The swing on that thing is huge when turning the steering wheel only a little.
Hey Neil, love your videos. I officially started into excavation about 4 years ago. I did choose to go mini/excavator, because I wasn't always local, and to have a backhoe big enough to do the work I wanted to do was more than I could tow, and the other machines were much easier to transport by trailer without a cdl (which I got last year). I certainly think that backhoes are great for local work, or work in areas with more room, as any farm most likely would be. I did buy newer machines to cut down on downtime, but I'm paying the price (lots of monthly expenses). Thanks, and keep up the good work!
I'm 32 years old and own a small grading excavation company. I learned how to run a backhoe when I was 4. Yes I do own a skid steer but I'm a young guy that prefers the equipment noone else wants. When I bought a skid I bought a rubber tired over a track machine.any people thought I was nuts. Now I'm looking at a 580e case backhoe to go with my skid.
Backhoes have their place for sure but after having a couple I no longer have one. Maybe it's because I'm established and know what I need and what works best for me at least at the moment, things can always change. Right now I prefer a bigger mini-excavator and large skidsteer. You can pretty much buy a new skidsteer and new mini-excavator for close to the same price as a new backhoe. I can haul both machines on the same trailer and if I have a helper and need them both on the same job I'm making twice as much money in the same amount of time. Good video.
An interesting video. I’m a home hobbyist caring for 31 acres of mountain meadow, forest roads and drives. My 1st piece of equipment was a 33 hp compact tractor with loader and backhoe. It is an excellent tool on which to learn the fundamentals of moving dirt. When a friend needed someone to help him load his dump truck with fill dirt, my transition to mini-x operator was a short one. It took only minutes to move up to the larger rig. I’ll add that the quality of work that any machine can do is limited to the operator’s skill. A small backhoe is perhaps the easiest way to learn to operate earth moving equipment and to learn how to do most any earth moving job. My MF1431, now 15+ years in operation, is still my fave weapon despite owning two larger tractors. So, if one poo-poos a backhoe then one is actually poo-pooing their own skills and understanding of equipment in general.
Great video Neil, I've been struggling with the idea of upgrading my compact tractor (with backhoe) for a true backhoe. I believe this video pushed me over the edge.
I have used both compact tractor and attachment and full size backhoe. I will warn you after using regular back hoe you're not likely to enjoy the compact anymore.
Great video idea Neil amazing you were able to dig up that old footage of the demolition of your parents house and get into a modern editing software, I’ve always been impressed with your editing style, you can make anything interesting
Thanks a lot! I'm really glad that people don't mind seeing our old movie footage. I really appreciate the kind words and thanks as always for watching.
I have the "bite size" compact version and it's amazing the amount of work it does. Not to mention the attachmenets for the PTO, 3 point arms, and front loader. I can accomplish many different tasts with it and it's surprising, not only to me, but my customers, what this "bite size" backhoe can do. Very versitile machine.
Backhoes are great I started my excavation business with one now I have dozer, excavator, trackloader, dump truck, semi to move em. A backhoe is a real money maker
I’ve been lucky enough to have grown up running backhoes of various shapes and sizes and they are one of my favorite machines by far, I will say however you may make an argument that for the new owner operator a mid size skid with a backhoe attachment, (a real one not on of the little single fixed arm ones) could have some good versatility aswell won’t be as powerful but if you had the backhoe, a dirt bucket and a grapple you’d have a nice variety of work that you can do, only down side is you rely on having a truck and trailer to haul it with that we’re as digginok mentioned and I agree 100% being able to road a backhoe for local jobs is another plus not always ideal but sometimes that might make the difference.
Well look at you! Adding valuable historical content to make your point. I'm impressed Neil. I think all the experts seem to agree, there is the right tool for every gig and situation. You done good on this one son! I did want to mention that head of hair on Kara in the bucket. That was some big hair! Take care brother, love home.
Neighbor down the street was a plumber and he retired and sold all his stuff. He had an older JD 310 that was very straight and well maintained. I heard that it sold for around 4K dollars. Would have been nice to grab that one. Oh well... It’s good to hear the expert opinions on equipment. I’d love a backhoe but since I already have front end loaders I’ll probably try and get an excavator with hydraulic thumb. So I’d better start saving my pennies. A lot of pennies.
Awesome video Neil!! Even though I like excavators, Backhoe’s for the win. My first machinery I ever operated was a 1964 JD500 and then a 1971 JD510 backhoes. It’s been a downhill ever since. I’m a big John Deere backhoe fan. I like your backhoe.
1970 Massey Ferguson mf40b. I was out plowing ❄ for 3 hours today Neill. I'm slowly getting the f550 ready for this summer. I put a thumb on the backhoe and opened up a bunch of things it can do. Get logs. Remove buckthorn without ripping me to ribbons. It's a giant wheelbarrow to transport tools jacks I beams, huge timbers to restore a 150 year old barn. Move boulders for the mrs doing landscaping. Holding up 🌳 for me to limb Alot easier. Remove brush for my neighbor. Remove stumps. my backhoe was project covid #1. The f550 is project covid 2. You're a good lad Neill gr8 video but you're still a bad influence. Lol. 🇨🇦 loves you brother.
Haha! Sorry to be a bad influence 😝 Sounds like you're doing fine without me though! Great to hear from our friends up north and I like hearing your stories for comparison. Thanks a bunch for tunin' in!
I would say it all depends on what your using it for. For tight neighborhoods and complete excavation jobs in general, minis are far more capable when it come to getting into small arias and being able to reach every aria of the job. However I’ve dug foundations and done so many other things with my case 580, and with the right guy running it you can basically use it for everything. Personally I would choose a 60 size mini and a 90 horse skid just because it’s nice to have two machines for different jobs, and they are far less awkward to run then a backhoe.
HA found another one to watch! backhoe and loader JD 5083E used skidsteer to push up brush pile and don't like branches in cab of skidsteer ....tractor gives you some distance from branches!
Another great video! Enjoyed the backhoe history lesson. Some really cool looking old machines. I’ve been hunting for a compact tractor for personal use and haven’t yet decided on spending the extra for a backhoe attachment. It’s a lot of extra money for that one attachment. But, I can see how useful they are to have around. Some have told me to rent a mini ex when i need it. Others have told me I’ll use it way more than I think. We’ll just have to see if I can afford it when time comes.
Thanks a lot Gabe! I think it would be a worthy investment for sure. I'm sure you could find a nice used piece and save some money maybe. I couldn't be without mine now that I've had one for so long.
I have had backhoes and currently have a mini ex. They are all great. They’re the same and completely different at the same time. I prefer the backhoe for getting to jobsites close to home. No need for a trailer. I prefer the mini ex for the low ground psi and the ability to turn 360 degrees. The best thing is to own both.
Nick, I just saw for the 1st time an episode you posted on Oct 31st, 2021 about your wood boiler and in it you showed a layout of your piping in the basement. I too, leaving inWisconsin also have a wood boiler but my is a Central Boiler. Anyways, I noticed or I could not see if you had a heat exchanger tube attached on the side of your hot water heater which if you don't you are missing on some extra savings and is relatively unexpensive and easy to do. I do and has saved me lots of money at leas 6 months out of every year for the last 12 years. In addition to that since I do not use glycol to keep the water from freezing in case the fire is out for prolonged time, out of wood, out town, or whatever, although the pumps generates some heat preventing the temperature from reaching 32°F by been running through the heat exchanger attached to water heater the water through the boiler pipes will pick up some of the heat preventing further a situation that could cause pipes bursting. Good show, hope this helps. Gil pizarro
When you removed the new oil filter from the clear plastic bag, was that black ring that came off the end of the filter (and stayed in the bag) the gasket, or a protective plastic ring that keeps the gasket in place?
Ran em all. First choice to bring on any jobsite is a TLB. Can haul, dig, carry, drill, break, install forks, drive along the road (driven TLBs 30 miles on roads sometimes when couldn't afford a lowboy). But biggest money makers are excavators - just so damn powerful/economical for their size. Mini excavators and CTL are ridiculous - waaaayyyy too expensive for what you get.
I believe every man has a piece of equipment that is like an extension of their hand. For me, it’s my tractors. I’ve got a skidsteer, but I’m not nearly as good at operating it like my father in law was. That being said, I don’t think a homesteader can go wrong with a subcompact or mid size tractor with a loader. I have a backhoe attachment for mine and it’s fantastic! I also love the fact that I can take my backhoe off and reset to use my 3pt hitch, or use the drawbar and the pto
My son and I were in the backhoe this morning pushing snow then in the afternoon we we're knocking out Beaver dams.. I still stick to my word it's a great piece of equipment! 💪🏼💯💪🏼 Thanks for the mention buddy!!
That's awesome Mike! I love backhie rides in the snow. Thanks for helping me out and being a part of this video!
Boss man… I bet Dirt Buddy had a blast.
And, I agreed with your points too!
@@sassafrasvalley1939 He Did SV!
Dyna-hoe was and is the best backhoe machine.the front and rear tire size is the same no tipping and bouncing, the hoe and stick are also better. The bucket works digging and moving more than a regular backhoe.,Dyna- Hoe is the best backhoe.
Awesome video as always honored to be part of it and was cool to see Frank he is the man when it comes to backhoes for sure.
Thanks for contributing to this Mike. You had great points and insight and I think it helped to make a well rounded discussion. Thanks for checking out the video!
Thanks dirt perfect
Always good to see some of my favorite content creators teaming up! Thanks Mike for the insight.
Absolutely! ....And.... Wait for it..........Great Video Neil !
Nothing like pulling out a dipstick with clean beautiful oil! So satisfying!
Love the backhoe! My dad has one on his property up north and recently I found out it was not running. Drove up and did a "will it run" and got it running for him again. His smile was so big. But then he taught me how to drive it. It was a special moment. Thanks for reminding me of that.
Thanks great James!
Great extra points Jeff! Thanks!
Thanks Greg!
Great video! Frank Cunningham has made me a believer in backhoes, he is an incredible operator. Mobility and versatility is where a backhoe shines! Take care Neil!
Couldn't agree more! Thanks Ben!
I love my old backhoe. It’s not as fast as a mini but the versatility is wonderful. If/when I upgrade I’d probably just get a newer backhoe.
That's great Greg. I hope I'm still using mine as much when I'm 70 too!
That's awesome Doug. I hauled milk part time for 10 years!
LOL
+1 for homemade mic reference :)
Nice job! Love it. Thanks for the invite and thanks to @dirtboss for the kind words. #MBGA!!!
Thank you so much for chipping in on this video Frank! You're a very talented backhoe operator and it was great to get your input to share with this story/tribute/argument for how great the backhoe is. #MBGA! (already great in my book!)
@@digdrivediy no problem! Anything to help promote the best piece of equipment ever built, I’m all in. Thanks again
Backhoes are gold, I’m a remodel move materials ,dig footings, clean up job, the best for me
I do love back hoe’s.
Can't wait to see that Stephen!
Thanks
I so agree with you.Backhoes can achive so much. With modern quick change implments its endless what you can get into
We have a backhoe excavator skidsteer payloader and dozer.
Great, now the wife wants me to get the backhoe for the 1025R! I don’t have good storage options for all the attachments I already have! Haha haha...
Uh, I'm sorry...or rather, YOU'RE WELCOME! If my wife said I need a backhoe for something I'd be hooking up the trailer!!! :)
It was cool how u added that little history lesson.
Awesome
Also have a big JD compact tractor but it's definitely not as robust as the Case.
That's great Douglas! Keep it going! I want to be doing it when I'm 66 too!
I have had a backhoe and now have a skidsteer and mini and I enjoy having the two separate pieces of equipment that way I can load the trailer with one and unload the trailer with the other.
That's the one I was talking about in your thank you video. The 410. We have a 320. It's baby brother. It's a beast.
Gotta be honest... when you we're taking that oil filter off, i reached for the screen and pulled your sleeve down.. LOL
No kidding! Always a gamble. I can just feel it running down inside my shirt sometimes!
I loved the home movie, I remember that demo on your Mom and Dad's house. Good Times!!!
For all around utility, a backhoe yes, but based on a farm tractor platform. That way you get the option of 3-point and PTO implements..
Thanks a lot Eric. Live your perspective. Sorry that JD ignored you though. Still team backhoe though so that's a win to me! Thanks for watching!

Thanks a lot Joel!
🔥🔥🔥 GREAT VIDEO MY BROTHER!!!
Hey thanks Todd!
Mack
Thanks Mack!
Agree Neil if you could only have one piece of equipment to anything you need to do a backhoe would definitely. Great video Thanks👍✊
Well stated. Thanks for sharing BD! I obviously use a mini X all the time, and I'd love to have a tracked skid steer. I just want it ALL!! :)
@@digdrivediy I have a Takeuchi TL8 I bought new last year. That thing is a tank!
I would love to be a heavy vehicle operator but have no idea where to start. loved them since a kid and the backhoe in particular
Excellent insight. I'm on a much smaller scale but feel the same way on my Ventrac to the sub compactor crowd. The versatility is key!
My family’s in landscaping and we have a 310se as well as a bobcat 325 mini. On most jobs I dig with the 325 but the first time I really dug with the backhoe I fell in love with the extra power. We also run a snow pusher on it in the winter it’s a beast
That's what I'm talking about!
Thanks so much Josiah!
Recently purchased a Case 580C backhoe; hope to get some good use for it. Enjoyed the video.
Awesome video. Ford 4610su with an Indiana manufactured Kelley 3pt backhoe. 9 ft digger pulled off a big project at my house.
Awesome Matt! Glad to know that.
I agree the backhoe is a great choice!
Nice video Neil.
im from Sweden and here the popular equipment is a backhoe and wheel excavators with dumptrailers
Thanks for watching in Sweden Henrik!
Exactly right Bob. Great points. Thanks for the insight and thanks for watching!
Good video, important info from professionals and thanks!
Great video Neil, I've been struggling with the idea of upgrading my compact tractor (with backhoe) for a true backhoe. I believe this video pushed me over the edge.
I have used both compact tractor and attachment and full size backhoe. I will warn you after using regular back hoe you're not likely to enjoy the compact anymore.
another quality and interesting video..cheers!!
Any size backhoe is great in my book! I'd actually like to have a smaller backhoe for my compact too! Always amazing what can be accomplished!
Backhoes are great I started my excavation business with one now I have dozer, excavator, trackloader, dump truck, semi to move em. A backhoe is a real money maker
Thanks Aaron!
Awesome just the video I was looking for
I agree, backhoes are the best all around piece of equipment. Great video.
Thanks 👍
I just bought my first tlb brand new. A Kubota b2601 with a bh70 backhoe Got it to help start my landscaping company.
Nice 👍🏻
Those are great points. You can do a lot with skid loader for sure. I want one too actually :)
Haha! Thanks Greg! Only you would notice that hair! And while it isn't Kara; you're close... It's her younger brother! Thank you friend!
@@digdrivediy Well now I feel as stupid as I look! At least there was a gene connection. Back to my corner now...
My son and l are in the market for 3t excavator. We may now consided a backhoe. Interesting, thank you.
Another great piece of storytelling.
Haha! Sorry to be a bad influence 😝
Sounds like you're doing fine without me though!
They just keep popping up! I like the point about branches... good one 👍
Agree whole heartedly!
Gil pizarro
By the way, you are half correct about a heated garage spoiling a man, it can definitely spoil a woman too, spoils a woman. Says my wife.
Thanks Gil. I don't have it hooked to our water heater but I should. I'm gonna look into it. Thanks for watching!
Mine too 🙂
I saw a mecalac video and instantly thought, if I ever win a lottery then that's what I want to have for the farm here.
When you removed the new oil filter from the clear plastic bag, was that black ring that came off the end of the filter (and stayed in the bag) the gasket, or a protective plastic ring that keeps the gasket in place?
Good eye! Yes, it was. I put it back on there before installing on the machine. Nice catch though 👍
