As a Latvian I am green with jealousy about our Baltic brothers militaries, especialy Lithuanias, they truly are taking their defense seariously. Actions, not words! Love for bralukas! 🇱🇻🇱🇹
@gneibs6980 the grass always looks greener over the neighbours fence, brother. I just wish LV LT and EE would finally integrate our defences and at least some defence purchasing.
I believe latvia is developing their own "JLTV" with the domestically designed and produced VR FOX, which will have an reconnaissance version (current testing snd develipment base thats been produced), armoured version with armaments and a 6x6 medical and utility versions.
Thanks! We are actually working on a video about Latvia’s failed procurement process to replace its Humvees- so it will be good to mention that the VR platform is a possibility 👍
I have no idea about the practical issues mentioned, but the fact that USA has over close to 20 000 of these already operational, and are ordering more, should speak at least a bit to their quality. Perfect things dont exist, and i think even if with issues, its a great boost to Lithuanian armed forces! Also i think like 100 have been given to Ukraine, would be interesting to hear of their actual front lines performance.
It's not that they're "bad"... ...but they're kinda pricey. In procurement a lot of the decisions are political and it's not hard to imagine the this was at least partially an attempt to get on good terms with the US in the hopes of garnering sympathy aka help with defense/NATO troops. But now with Trump that's a no go. Idk what defense strategy they're pursuing but I think there were better options on a cost/benefit basis.
@@mysterioanonymous3206 well there is speculation that the spending on US equipment, namely the JLTV and Blackhawk helicopters, was a deal in order to get the US to station a Batalion in Lithuania as deterrance to Russia. In terms of price, maybe. It will be interesting to see how the A2 version looks and performs, in theory AM General claims has fixed a lot of the issues present in Oshkosh version. Although ours will still be the oshkosh ones.
It called for an average unit manufacturing cost between $230,000 and $270,000 across the JLTV family of vehicles. The cost target for the B-kit armor package remains at US$65,000. Expensive ....
I think that all three baltic countries should have ordered the same type of vehicle, preferably one manufactured in the EU. These are no high-tech weapon systems. You can buy equivalent vehicles in Germany, Finnland, etc.
GTP was in my opinion too heavy for 2 axle vehicle and with too poor of a ballistic protection for its standart weight. Modularity is great on it, but again in my opinion it's not enough for it to be best choice. Not comparing it to JLTV A1 tho, just stating what I've read about GTP over the years.
It's crazily expensive. Lithuania would have managed to get 2-5 times more used humvees. Yes, they are not as armoured and not as capable but main purpose of JLTV is infamtry transport. And here numbers matter a lot. So I am very critical of this purchase. Especially that we operated humvees before (still are) and have experience in maintenance and repairs.

Should buy the Australian Hawkei ... Brilliant vehicle!

As far as I remember UA liked JLTV and tried to keep them for most elite assault units only like Kraken and etc.

Great machine 👍

I can see the complaint about the JLTVs. But I hope that most of the issues are just teething issues and can become easier to maintain in the future.

In my opinion the Sisu GTP would have been really suitable to Lithuania.
Wasn’t Latvia going to buy the GTP? I wonder if they decided on anything…
Maybe but, so far only ~50 was produced total., it is so rare and you cannot get large enough quantities fast enough.

I just wonder what that reddit guy would have said if he was operating some Humvee.
Mmmmmm.... jello tv
😅

New Saber series Humvees is what I'm curious about. Tho I have no idea when we, Latvians, will start looking for armored 4x4 again.
