My husband loved this song. He passed away four years ago. I had it sung at the memorial mass for him a year after he died. There wasn’t a dry eye in the church. Then I had the title tattooed on my arm before I saw Justin Hayward live in 2022. The title may be tattooed on my arm, but those lyrics are engraved on my heart. ♥️
*Had* to have this album after 11-17-78 when I shook hands with Justin Hayward in Springfield Coliseum, calling him "my favorite living musician" and seeing those "weary eyes" soften.
I have been to the live concert 3 times the last in 2022. My grandaughter 19, came with me and was blown away ass we all were. Absolutely epic. Go see it if you can. Next tour is in 2025
All these years on I still have the album on rotation on my car play list. This is an epic musical tour de force, Phil, Julie, David, Chris, and the inimitable Richard Burton
I knew you'd love this one! Sarah. The combination of Richard Burton and Justin Hayward. Two of the most incredible voices ever heard is a dose of perfection. As usual, an amazing reaction. Thank you, Sarah! H!
Justin Hayward has a tremendous voice. He was the voice of the Moody Blues. Jeff Wayne created a masterpiece. Listen to the entire album… you will not be disappointed. I remember when it was released. Jeff Wayne wrote “Forever Autumn” and eventually gave it up to Justin because of that beautiful, weary, and emotional voice of his. This song always gives me goosebumps and I appreciate you reacting to the original version straight from War of the Worlds! 💟☮️
David Justin Hayward OBE is an English musician. He was the guitarist and frontman of the rock band the Moody Blues from Brum aka Birmingham England.A great album I still have the Double album.Stay safe young lady.
Great reaction. Very old but not too old for me. I was given the cd by my mum. I fondly remember listening to this song i my bed 30+ years back. A timeless song.
My brother bought a copy of War Of The Worlds on cassette tape in the 70's and played it quite a bit. We both loved it from start to finish. Richard Burton was a fantastic narrator, and I remember being pleasantly surprised that David Essex played the young Artilleryman.
when I used to enjoy being in um.... an "altered state of mind" this is amazing to sit back, relax, listen to the whole album hearing the story unfold. I still enjoy it now and then but not in the same way. it is an amazing piece.
Beautiful, love this. Great album. Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy is on it too. The speaker is Richard Burton, beautiful low voice. Thanks for this one. Enjoyed it. 👊👍❤️😁
I love your beautiful reaction as always, Sarah. I became an enormous fan of Justin and The Moody Blues in the mid-60s. He has always been the creative genius behind their most beautiful and memorable songs, in my opinion. And this is really one of his finest recordings. Even though it was a solo effort, it subsequently showed up on a Moody Blues album -- minus the narration.
Sarah, thank you for doing the complete version of this with the narration, so classic. (I'm sure you know Justin Hayward is the main singer of the Moody Blues.)
Actually I don't believe the Moody Blues had anything to do with creating this. Justin sang it with a band Jeff Wayne put together. Justin did sing it with the Moody Blues after the fact.
Forever Autumn is one of the most haunting, melancholy and beautiful songs to come out of the 70s. This decade produced some of the most haunting songs ever written, evidence Nights in White Satin, Someone To Lay Down Beside Me, etc. At the time of this song came out also released was Firefall's Strange Way which can go hand and hand with the foreboding, haunting nature of this sumptuous song. God bless the 79s and the glories of my youth and the songs that defined my life. From Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, about the foreboding and oncoming of an alien invasion. What an appropriate song for the narration. Gorgeous.
@@NYCOPERAFAN That is true. The reality is it didn't become popular, at least here, until 1972. I heard it for the first time on AM radio, WKIX, out of Raleigh that summer. It was being played often and everywhere. For some unknown reason, the song truly didn't take off until 1972. I will leave it to others to explain that.
I know you listened to the next track on this album, I would like to see you react to that as well. This song makes your heart break, then you get the courage to fight for it.
Greetings, Sarah. I'm utterly dismayed that I am only the fifth of your many subscribers to view this reaction six days after its release. What?! The song is an absolute masterpiece. "The War of The World" was a fictitious tale written by Orson Welles. In it, Martians invade the planet. You can hear this song without the narration of the overriding tale, and I frankly prefer that version. As the primary songwriter of The Moody Blues biggest hits, Justin Hayward found himself solicited individually to compose a track for this bigger story. But the song shows up on some Moody Blues greatest hits collections. In my eyes, Hayward is one of the true musical geniuses of the 20th and 21st centuries. Why aren't your subscribers flocking to this song? 🤔 I just don't get it. Regardless, I'm glad you enjoyed it so. ❤
H G Wells wrote the novel in 1898...you are thinking of 1938, when Orson Welles read it out on the radio as a play, and everyone had conniptions in New Jersey thinking it was a real news broadcast
so good to see a young person reacting so emotionaly to an epic song i used to play war of the worlds tape almost every night on my epicly cheap tape player that my parents could barely afford to buy me jeff wayne is and allways shall be a genius and a god of music
This album is best listened to in a darkened room. It's pretty creepy and scary, but it's bloody brilliant. There is a video of it being done live on stage. There have been 3 films made of this, one in black and white and two in colour, the latter starring Tom Cruise. The original story is set in England and starts at a place called Horsell Common in Surry which I have visited. A bit spooky after listening to the album. I've just subscribed to your channel. ✌️❤️🇬🇧
You should listen to the War of the Worlds album. It's a full musical with lot's of great songs. Listening to it in it's full context adds even more to it, especially since some of the musical motifs in the song are used throughout to tie it together. Went to the War of the Worlds live experience recently. Listening to the song through a VR helmet while "on a boat" with autumn leaves fall all around you is a great experience. Lovely reaction video.
Howdy Sarah, Michael from Texas. Great reaction!. I've loved this song since I heard it on that album. I listened to the whole album at night, with all the lights out and sitting in the middle of the room with my speakers turned toward me. It was amazing. It was like I had a movie playing in my head that went along with the music and Richard Burton's incredible narration.
Boys, all my H.G Wells fanatics. No matter how much we try she wont try the entire album trust me. She'll still be one of the average 50-60% of people who think HG Wells and Orson Wells are the same guy. She won't know the valiant fight of the HMS Thunderchild, she wont know anything about cylinders or heat-rays, and nothing about no red-weed covering the land, and thats okay because she can have that when *she* is ready. And she's super sweet. So just appreciate she's seeing at least *one* song :3
Hello Sarah, the single version of this was a big chart hit for Justin Hayward (from the Moody Blues) in 1978. Try the whole album, its a musical adaptation of the famous HG Wells novel and is just wonderful. I recommend the original 1978 version, Richard Burton narrates the story and is just perfect. It has been touring as a live musical show since 2006.
PLEASE do us all a favor and for Halloween, review the whole album! Every Halloween I turn the ligjts off, light a candle, and give it a listen. It's a masterpiece.❤

Such a beautiful and powerful song about love loss and hope and despair... and yet the song is so underrated, but I'll always love Forever Autumn
Possibly the song ever that almost nobody knows.
The only reaction is to close your eyes and quietly soak up the story and the atmosphere created by the album. 🐯
