Modi Cabinet Approves 5 New Classical Languages of India | PM Modi's historical decesion for indian culture protection, promotion and awareness.
The Union Cabinet has granted the status of ‘classical language’ to five languages: Marathi, Bengali, Pali, Prakrit, and Assamese. With this, the number of languages on the list nearly doubles from six to 11.
The current framework, as revised in 2024 by the Linguistic Experts Committee (LEC) under Sahitya Akademi under the ministry of culture, Govt of india.
