  • The Centre approved classical language status to Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, Assamese, and Bengali on October 05. Pali professors from major universities hailed the cabinet's decision and thanked PM Modi. The Govt of India had earlier conferred classical language status to five languages. The languages included Tamil (2004), Sanskrit (2005), Telugu (2008), Kannada (2008), Malayalam (2013), and Odia (2014)
