      @@OurFreedomYears The funny thing is we grew up not too far from Albania (France), but it was always portrayed as a wasteland with not much culture in the media. We've been lied to! :)

    Wow that view from your Airbnb is absolutely stunning! I had no idea Albania had such a beautiful piece of coastline. Hopefully I'll get to see it someday!

      It's really quite stunning and similar to what you would see in Greece or Turkey. Lots of lovely beaches hidden away along the coast.

      Add it to your list...this is a great place for an off-season hideaway. It's probably a little crowded during peak season.

      It's been quite fun here on the coast! We've discovered that Sarande is really close to a lot of the major southern Albania sights.

    That looks like a great place to spend November! The apartment looks wonderful. I'm very interested in seeing how you cook on the road. It's something I think about a lot when I'm home in my kitchen with all my gadgets and spices, etc. How will I deal with cooking while traveling? Can't wait to see how you do it. : )

    Looks like a beautiful spot! Somewhat similar to Kalamata, Greece where we're currently staying. Lots of beach-front restaurants, then also a downtown area. This time of year, it's not very busy and it's mostly locals. The water is still warm enough to swim in comfortably though!

      Hmmm....Kalamata sounds quite appealing as a future option. We're enjoying the seaside here but it might be nice to actually go for a swim!

      We're in Sarande for one month but in Albania for three whole months in total! The food is simple and good...lots of Italian influence in the cooking.

      Wish if I can be where you are now to check it out! We spent a month in Spain 🇪🇸 (in September and early October 2021). Spain was a beautiful country with an amazing people. We are now having a beautiful and a warm weather where we live in Southern California. This week temperature, even by the ocean, is 80 - 90 degrees F 😀🇺🇸😀.

    It looks like a beautiful place to spend November. Also, you guys pick out the nicest apartments. I definitely like that international IKEA look, it’s so clean and welcoming. It’s certainly the look we try to find. You also have me rethinking our no car rentals policy when we travel. I can’t wait to see where your car takes you.

      It takes a lot of searching but eventually we always find a pretty nice place! For Albania, we really appreciated having the car. The bus system is limited and getting a car transfer from A to B can be quite expensive. We're really loving the freedom of having a car for all our excursions this month.

    wow - loving that view and the promenade definitely looks like the one you filmed in Split! putting Serande on the travel bucket list right now. Am wondering, though, if you'll find the place lively enough to last a whole month - would love to hear your thoughts when you do the serande/albania wrap-up video.

      It's certainly a quiet time of year to be here. Not too many people on the beach but there's still plenty to see in the rest of the region. And the weather continues to be amazing.

    Very interesting, I had never considered Albania before. We need a country to step away from the Schengen when we hit our limit, and this looks wonderful. Question ... the grocery looks like a grocery ... how are the food markets? Are there food markets? Thanks!

      It is a pretty good spot to wait out the Schengen limits. There is a fresh market in town and also many of the smaller stores have produce available. It's not as abundant as what we saw in Tirana where there were fresh markets everywhere.

      All of the places that we've travelled to in eastern Europe have felt very welcoming and safe. And we've found that it's easy to get a friendly greeting from locals if you use a few words of Albanian.

    What are real estate prices like there in Saranda?

      Although we haven't looked into the details, it seems that long-term rentals are very affordable. We're paying top dollar for our place but it's a centrally-located short-term rental from Airbnb.

    beautiful apartment, how far in advance do you usually book your AirBnbs for your next destination?

      Now that international travel has opened up again, we're booking about 4 to 5 months ahead. Since we book a whole month at each Airbnb, we need to plan fairly far ahead.

    But one "secret" I can tell you. Go to Borsh, and have a breakfast at Ujëvara e Borshit cafe. It is amazing!! You will have simple food and drinks sitting in the cafe next to huge! trees and small waterfalls. (if they are open this time of the year).

    Is renting car for a month cheaper than public transport?

      The buses are much cheaper but it's an informal bus system versus a public system. Since we're doing a few excursions a week, having a car has been really helpful.
