Michael Renee, who played the part of Desiree's husband, he has a lot of charm, he reminds me of Charlton Heston.

What a clear print of this film. Great casting. Jean Simmons was a very attractive actress and Merle Oberon a beauty. The nose on Brando was very good as if it were modelled on Michael Rennies. Thank you for sharing this delightful film.

She looked so beautiful in that gold ballgown. I usually don't like that style, but with the retro hint in the style, she really looks great.

Critics that did not like this film said that there was no conceivable plot. Plainly weighing the script/words verses the actions was lost on them. Plainly this had nothing to do with war and death, but more to character and personal politics. I am sad that I could find no historical reference to Desiree being given Napoleon's sword.
It appears that the important facts were otherwise displayed.
She loved Napoleon. When he was a young General and Imprisoned, she loved him. She protested his overtures first, and was not a political animal seeking gain of knowing him.
She loved her family. From the things that I read about her, she did love her family and her France more than any throne or title that was given to her or her husband. Thus, the final scene would have been wonderful if real, the Queen of Sweden begging for the lives of the young men of France, begging for the City of Paris she came to love and never wanted to be away from.
She made no statement of loving the Revolution, the new Jacobin Order. She loved Life, not merely her own, but she loved children, even of nations where she was titled. But she loved Paris and France supreme.
To watch Brando play Napoleon and declare the end of Nobility really set the stage for the entire context of the insanity of the whole. A man declaring he was France, that he was the Revolution. To declare the end of Nobility, and then later to make others Kings and Princesses, and then crown himself Emperor.
    And what of the Revolution?
All about her were palaces that she did not thrive in. Court Etiquette of a Neo-Nobility that they the Jacobins made for themselves, which she could simply not contend with existing in.
The MAGNITUDE of the Hypocrisy is so severely understated in this Film reaching the great apex of him crowning himself.
Her husband said nothing of the Revolution in the script. The Swedish Crown that he would take was not his first, as he had been crowned King by Napoleon in some Papal State I believe. He was for France, not the Revolution. He persisted in his time and nation, until he had to leave, and could then be positioned to free his France from the immediate madness that persists to this day.
Desiree was a simple girl and remained true to herself by not accepting the chains and imprisonment of Titles and Nobility. Far too simple of a person for the rest of the caste around her clamoring for Titles and Power.
She already loved France and the finer things. She did share. She learned to love Paris. She loved Napoleon where she met him. She learned to love her husband. She loved children, even not her own.
It appears from all accounts, she loved the people she was given charge over, but could not suffer ruling over them. She could not suffer Office, for her heart was far too real for such illusions.
It is a film of contrasts for people with eyes to see. Words verses Actions. Ideas verses Constructs. Vanity verses Beauty. Pretense verses Love.
    She remained true to herself.

Having watched “Napoleon” with Joaquin Phoenix, I can sincerely say without reservation that this movie is a great telling of the story! Jean Simmons & Michael Rennie captivated me when I saw this movie as a girl a million years ago, but after seeing the new movie, I appreciate Brando more than ever before.😌

Outstanding news movies lovers. God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8 People say how can a loving God send people to hell. He does not send people to hell people choose who they will serve. Please believe and repent of you sin today dont be left behind.

Yes find out about the Living God and whom Christ obeys. Who followed him does not make their bodies into a grave by eating their brothers and sisters carcasses, who are any of us animals or creatures we are all of the tree of knowledge of Good and evil if we eat those carcasses those corpses will make our body into a grave we would be empowering the murderer God The slaughterhouse God and our God would be dead and our Angels would be dead. Many more of the early Christian teachings have been found become educated do not remain ignorant apologies have been given from the papacy for the persecution of the early Christians
