Dear Joel Terry Fitzgerald, is one of the greatest surfers of my era A well liked Australian in Hawaii. Well I was in Palolo valley around 91 staying in town at a friends rented house during the winter months. I went under the crawl space under the house and WHOA part of the ORIGINAL HOT BUTTERED QUIVER (1972) 8 2 single no fin good shape , heavy vee nose, winger pin ,totally airbrushed underneath and lite green deck like in the mags photos (Al Dove airbrush maybe :). I put a fin on and rode this board everywhere on Oahu 1 ft to 8ft, I had my John Carpers back then but this was so so special. Well eventually I had to go home back to the Island of Hawaii, and l left it under the house of another friends home. I never saw the board again. i think about that board all the time. True story
Winged pin single. Looks fun. I’m getting ready to ride my own 9’ version. I enjoyed watching this video and the enthusiasm of them talking about these shapes.
Lovely, I truly love my single fin, I don't have to show off for anyone, I can just flow with the wave and have so much fun. Check out all the classic surfers, especially Buttons. What Terry says at the end is so true, thank you for this little video.
@RaisedByWolvesVision Some of us from that era have never left singles even if we have ridden other stuff. Geoff McCoy, Cheyne Horan and guys like Terry know where the speed is. It's about a feeling, not about being able to go rail to rail more often. Something still magical about " functional " single fins. There were plenty of non functional ones though. Thrusters are just easier for most people. You can't fake it on a single.
Had the pleasure of meeting kye Joel and Terry when they stayed with us during the Gunston 500 in South Africa. Good video to come across
