    Nice video! Appreciate all the effort of explaining every step in the process. Especially all the trike-specific stuff with the rear axle and assembly. There's a ton of videos out there assembling regular bikes but not a ton showing trikes and how those rear axles work on them. Kudos!

      Thank you for watching. I appreciate your support. As far as Retrospec bikes, they are a decent product that we started to carry when the pandemic made it hard to get other product from our regular distributors and although they are newer to our customers, the overall quality has been good and the prices are reasonable.

    Any chance you can show how to swap the cassette and rear break disc? This looks like great trike to convert to electric.

    • @behrbuildsbikes
      @behrbuildsbikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Essentially, the freewheel and disc brakes are mounted to the axel with an allen bolt on each side of the freewheel/ disc rotor adapter. There is also a "key block" in the slot in the axel and adapter.
      Remove the brake caliper from the frame. Loosen allen bolts so that freewheel and rotor can slide back and forth. Slide the axel out on the drive side to remove the parts and exchange to the electric parts.

    Kool so replacing bearings and cranks arms more or less how much ?

    • @behrbuildsbikes
      @behrbuildsbikes  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depending on the quality you're looking for, you could probably convert to 9/16 cranks for around $125.00 plus labor.... that would be decent quality.....you may find cheaper parts, but you get what you pay for. I would estimate about $50.00 to $75.00 for spindle and bearings ( aka "bottom bracket" ) and $ 49.99 to $69.99 for compatible crank arms with sprocket. Be sure to get a similar size sprocket so it will fit in the chainguard.

    Your video convinced me to buy one of these trikes unassembled, I got a much better price doing that way. My plan is to put a 750W Bafang mid-drive motor on it, so I will be pretty much be swapping out a great number of Sun parts for Bafang's. Since I'm starting fresh, will pretty much any 7-speed shifter work with this bike? I have a Reid "Boss" 7-speed Fat Bike with a 1000w Bafang and would like to keep the controls the same.

    • @behrbuildsbikes
      @behrbuildsbikes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm pretty sure any 1 to 1 ratio shifters will work. Sunrace, microshift, shimano, sram all make 1 to 1 shifters and derailluers. Sounds like a fun project. Let me know how it turns out.👍😎

    Do you have instructions for installing the 7 speed and disc brake kit? Or any tips as far as how far the sprocket and disc break are installed away from the bearings? Thank you

    • @behrbuildsbikes
      @behrbuildsbikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The freewheel and disc rotor are installed at the factory on these bikes, but the process to install them on a single speed is similar to the traditional trike. Pull the axel out just far enough to be able to slide the freewheel assembly and the rotor onto the axel. Slide the axel back in. Put the key blocks into the slot in the axel and slide the freewheel body and rotor over the keys and position each approximately 3/8 to 1/2 inch from the bearings on each side. Once the rotor is on, install the brake caliper. Tension the axel with the left rear wheel installed and the finalize the rotor alignment. Then install the derailleur and route the chain. Once the cables are run and all your adjustments are made, tighten the holding bolts on the freewheel body and rotor mounts to keep them in place on the axel. From there, it's just a matter of fine tuning everything.
      I hope this helps. I will have more videos in the future dealing with modifying and custom configurations on different bikes

    Hello could cranks be changed to 9/16 cranks just because most real nice pedals come in 9/16?

    • @behrbuildsbikes
      @behrbuildsbikes  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is a conversion to a three piece bottom bracket set that can be installed in this frame. It is not made by Sun, but I believe the company is called Sunlite. The crank arms are not part of the conversion kit and depending on the size of the sprocket, you may have to adjust the length of the chain as well. Also, be sure that the sprocket is made for multi speed chains and not single speed. So to answer your question, yes, it can be done. 😁👍

    Great video. Maybe you could help me with some info. I want to make Sun Baja electric by hanging a go-cart motor off the back of the rear assembly. I think I need a 40 tooth (driven) sprocket for the optimal gear ratio - The available shaft space between the freewheel and rotor is only about 3/4" - do you know if they make/where i can get a single sprocket freewheel that will fit in that space ?
    Another option I thought about was replacing the 7 speed freewheel with a 9 speed cassette ( and using the 1st - biggest gear for the motor - 2nd gear as a spacer - and the remaining 7 for the pedal gears.. what specs do I need to match for a cassette to fit the existing shaft collar that holds the freewheel? And do you know where i can get one with a 40 tooth gear?
    ..it also occurred to me that i could use the existing freewheel's top gear for the motor and adjust the travel on the derailer so it can't shift past 2nd gear - but I think its only a 34 tooth - when , I think, I need 40T - to get the right balance of torque and speed, and i don't like loosing the highest pedal gear.

      @@behrbuildsbikes Yeah I saw that - thing is mid drives are expensive - especially high watt motors - and I've built a front hub kit before, but want rear-wheel drive on this one. I found a 48v 1800w 4N.M. Torque - electric motor for around $100 bucks. If I can make it work, and it works well - it bodes well for affording some future projects I have in mind - but I really don't know anything about bikes - I just need to know if they make a 40T single sprocket freewheel (5/8" bore, 3/16" key way) that will fit in the 3/4inches of available shaft I have between the existing rotor and freewheel ? and where to get it?
      If not I have to go with running the motor on a cassette gear - which, I think will be a problem for pedaling with the power off - which is okay by me (bad leg, don't pedal)- but not great if I ever want to sell it.

      @behrbuildsbikes  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't done any conversations on these yet, but I have seen a few online too. I don't know if they make a 40 tooth freewheel and I'm not sure if a second drive adapter will fit on the axel next to the rotor adapter. Maybe a second rotor adapter can be modified to work.

      Yes, there are conversion kits available to convert the cranks to 9/16 . It can be expensive, as you need to change the bearings and the crank arms, but it is a pretty easy conversion.👍😁

      The steer tube is 1 1/8" threadless, I'm not sure of the length. Sun bicycles does sell the replacement fork for the fat tire trikes and as far as I know, they are all the same size. Just a note too...the Baja trike fork will not fit the traditional trike frames. You would need to change the headset and cut the steer tube to fit. I hope this helps.😁👍
