- Season 03, Episode 20 - first time skiing at winter park! in this episode, we make the 7.5 hour trek to winter park in colorado where we did some skiing there for the very first time. we spent most of the time exploring the vasquez cirque which took way longer than i had anticipated!

Unfortunately, I woke up too sick the next morning to ski so I limped home. Feelin’ better but I still have a ways to go.
I think the nonstop traveling and skiing finally caught up to me. Kind of a bummer to drive that far but that’s the way it goes I guess! Not sure how much more skiing I’ll be doing this year as my focus is shifting towards racing now this weekend!
Always been on the road is excruciating, travel like 60 milles to my job and then sometimes i go sking afterward in the morning and do like 80 milles to the ski area .Strap on my boots and feel like shit... This make the couples of runs not that pleasurable.Get some sleep dude.
I really appreciate how human your approach is to handling a challenging situation. Like IT IS OK to back off from a line that you are just unsure about, and I hope that this encourages other people to trust their instinct and set their ego aside for their own safety and the safety of others.
Deep South girl here. I learned to ski at Winter Park. They teach blind people so I figured they could teach me. My Sweetie wanted to go on a great vacation. I thought islands, he thought mountains. I came this close to just staying in the lodge but ventured out instead and never regretted it. Winter Park holds a special place in my heart for teaching me something I never imagined I'd love so much. Thank you for the video and sorry you got sick. Sounds like you mighta got the 'rona.

10:46 It use to be WAY longer back before they put the Eagle Wind lift in. Before you ended up on the FAR RIGHT of the map at the bottom of Vasquez. would take 2 hours run. I got lucky once and patrol threw me a rope and gave a bunch of us a tug so we skipped the walk! 🙌 But that terrain under the lift you took up after is a TON of fun.

I went to Winter Park for the first time this year. Skied three days and I was told it was the best week of the year. The snowcat was running so we lapped that area all day long. We skied the trees off the lift you need to get out after skiing the cirque. It made for a great day. Since I am from the east coast the walk would have been a no go or maybe one time thing.
You gotta hit copper is you have the chance. I think you would really like it. A lot of steep and technical terrain. The mountain is totally farmable as you say. Lift lines are short especially for the lifts which service higher elevation areas and backside bowls. Easy to get around the mountain and it’s pretty big. It’s been my favorite this resort this season on ikon. Snow is usually pretty good too.
My plan was to hit it after winter park but unfortunately I got sick.
@@LucasCatania17 yeah I saw that. Copper had a great season this year I recommend tucker mountain (copper bowl), union peak, union meadows, upper enchanted Forrest. Also some fun Woodward parks and nice moguls off sierra lift, timberline express, and excelerator. Super fun mountain to explore and snow is usually good.

Feel better, Lucas! Glad you made some 'safe' choices. (Some pretty scary rocks poking thru the Cirque!) 👾 I skied Winter Park/Mary Jane a while back and really loved it. (& I'm sure there are some excellent chutes that "have your name on them" for next year!)

In case you're ever back in Winter park and looking for some more extreme terrain without the walk, there's some sort of untouched spots in the Mary jane territory I'd highly recommend if you enjoy more densely treed cliff drops. At the top of the challenger lift, if you go down to the mouth of the run called trestle and hang a left into the trees and keep heading left to the rope, there are some nice cliff areas that are unnamed and opposite from the Mary Jane chutes. Very dense trees, relatively steep, and some nice jumps if you're into that. Me and my buddies spend hours every day in trestle trees when the mary jane chutes are closed!

Hey Lucas I grew up skiing at winter park so if you end up coming back next year you gotta check out Brian's Run, Hole In the Wall, Mushroom patch, Riflesight Trees, Pony Exp Trail and Belle Fourche! Those are some of my favorites.

That was fun to watch. I’ve skied a number of the runs you were filming from, so I could feel like I was there. I was a bit surprised that terrain was open. It’s closed a lot and I didn’t think it had that much snow.
There’s a short hike you can go up right above the lift, not to ski, but to get an amazing 360 view. I think that’s the second prettiest view I’ve seen skiing (#1 was Heavenly looking down at Lake Tahoe).

Sucks you got sick. I had my board when I went to winter park, and we luckily caught the day after a storm. We rode the Eagle Wind area which ended up being top 5 lifetime tree riding for me, fresh powder all day long till our legs were done. IIRC the cat wasn't running either so we skipped the cique. Definitely a great resort and worth a trip back!

We usually stay in the trees either just to the skiers left or skiers right under the Panoramic lift. Usually good coverage and lots of fun. Lots of powder in the trees

I am at winter park right now. I love winter park it's so awesome. the hole in the wall ski run it's so steep usually powder with some rock but it's really cool you should do it next year

I'd be sick if you mixed in a few runs with a lower field of view on the GoPro. Sometimes its hard to judge how steep the runs are with such a high field of view. Of course higher FOV can result in some great shots of the environment and surroundings, but I'd be stoked to see a little of both.
what did you think of the shots at the end where i put it in my mouth rather than on my helmet?
@@LucasCatania17 I actually thought that it was pretty cool, but sometimes the bottom of your goggles clipped into the frame due to the FOV.
I live in Steamboat & have skiied Winter Park a lot over the years & it's really not my favorite resort. Signage often seems confusing & there's a lot of flats, but it is pretty at the top. Vasquez cirque is such a long flat hike though. You would like skiing A-basin a lot, it's a fun little resort.
gotcha. for some reason i had better expectations for it! and i love a basin! used to ski there all the time when i lived in colorado.

@@LucasCatania17 it’s hard when you don’t know where you’re going there. Nothing is labeled that good and a lot of the good runs you have to know where to find them, the cirque is still a good time though, the runout is not though lol

I have skied Winter Park a few times en route to Steamboat, an awesome place. Did you have a chance to check out the West Portal of the Moffat Tunnel?, which is a train tunnel cutting thru the continental divide. It's across the highway from the slopes. Just trivia but cool to see. Gotta take care of yourself Lucas, hope you're going better! Will be in PC next Thurs! 31st.

Hey man, I ski up at winter park all the time, and when I ski parsen bowl I recommend cutting over to the left to get some steeper terrain, there is also some pretty fun trees down at the bottem!

@@MrHardcoregamerLP that’s great! I just saw people walking and not taking the tow even tho the snowmobile tow was running so I assumed it’s reserved for special group/occasions and only saw ski camp participants taking the tow
@@reginay7729 interesting! Maybe some miscommunication there. I know the locals who ski the cirque do the tow but maybe you’re right and it’s reserved for groups bigger than 2 or something. Not sure. Definitely have gotten towed solo though on days where it’s not busy.

Agree - Cirque is fun but not farmable and is so annoying to get to. Plus the egress down that valley is so flat and obnoxious even for skiers. It's unfortunate.

Also, I'm in SLC from CO for a ski trip... thoughts on the UTA Ski Bus? I think I read that Solitude charges $25 for parking?! I would probably only consider taking it on a weekend/holiday, but wanted to ask your thoughts anyway!
