    I’ve been waiting for this video to drop! I met Same Same at the NC/GA border a few weeks ago while I was conditioning for the PCT. He gave me a little spoiler on your plans xD. I hope y’all cross paths on the AT, it’d be a neat reunion for the three of you. I’m starting the PCT on the 14th, super psyched! Good luck on your journey, super ambitious of you! You can do it!

  • @feralhikes8898
    @feralhikes8898 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Chris: It sounds like we have similar goals for the year. I started an AT outside-in flip flop on 1 Feb and did the 900+miles up to NorVA. I'll start my CDT NOBO thru on 23 April. After the CDT, I *may* complete the AT flip-flop. We'll see. I did an AT/PCT Dual in 2019, so I have some idea what's involved. But, I don't believe in looking beyond the trail one is on. I won't meet you, if you stay on schedule, but I wish you all success! And, of course, I'll look for your reports on the trail conditions, especially in the San Juans! Feral

      Hey BamBam good to hear from you again! Thanks brother. I would love to delve into the mental challenge a little more, and maybe will do a vid on it at some point once I have worked it out a little more on trail this time around. I anticipate being a lot more isolated for this thru, so hopefully will find some good ways to cope lol. Hope you are doing well man!

    27 miles average on the AT is rough...not saying impossible but damn.
    The one gear item I don't get is the backpack. No mesh pocket for quick access? Where do you keep your water handy?
    Good luck!

    • @chriscartermedia
      @chriscartermedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry for the delay in getting back with ya! That is the only downside to the Ascensionist as a backpacking bag, but thankfully I had a friend sew a super durable water bottle pocket on the side that has worked great. Survived the whole CDT and all the AT so far.

    Oh wow! I watched your PCT trail documentary and loved it. I wish you the best of luck. By the way, I had a question. What were the emotions you felt when you finished the PCT?

    • @chriscartermedia
      @chriscartermedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the kind words! The emotions felt at the end of a thru hike are honestly super hard to sum up. Not trying to brush off your question, but I sum it up in an interview done by the John Freakin Muir Pod a couple months ago in more words than I can type out here haha. (th-cam.com/video/V3wsec4BSto/w-d-xo.html, starting about 1:41:43).

    hey bro, if it’s possible, could you do a bit of an *extensive* video about your *food* and show like some stuff your taking and your methods.
    surprisingly, ppl don’t explain their food methods very well. i just find it *super* fun to watch videos about food at camps or on a trail etc.😹😹😹😹
    *edit* well i just finished the video and realized your already gone.😹so nvm.

    • @chriscartermedia
      @chriscartermedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey bro! No worries haha. I agree, a lot of gear videos only focus on their base weight and not the consumables. I could probably go into that at with a video at some point, but my diet on trail is quite simple. I usually do just granola bars and snacks for breakfast (really don’t like firing up the stove in the morning), some sort of tortilla wraps with tuna or PB for lunch, and then Knorr Sides, with Idahoan potatoes for dinner, or a freeze-dried meal if I’m lucky enough. This trail I’ll thankfully be getting some help from ReadyWise freeze-dried meals which is baller, and they’ll help to diversify my dinners a little haha. Hope that helps!

  • @gigig7855
    @gigig7855 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My trail family doesn't like it as much as I do but that's on them.💀😂🤣
    If I don't carry like 5 layers of clothes with me when I backpack I freeze to death but it is because I haven't found the right sleeping bag.

    Hey Chris, what size crampons did you get?

    • @chriscartermedia
      @chriscartermedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I ended up getting size large Kahtoola microspikes instead of the trail crampons actually. Found them for a good deal and they are lighter. Should be sufficient for the San Juans.

    • @chriscartermedia
      @chriscartermedia  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For reference I’ll be wearing a size 10.5 Hoka Speedgoat. A medium should fit regular 10.5 shoes but Hokas have so much cushion the large fit better.
