The Warmoth version of Daphne Blue is a perfect hue, you guys leave Fender, Jackson, and the others in the dust. I was really impressed when I saw a Daphne Blue Warmoth Jazzmaster in person a few weeks back, it was gorgeous!
The thing with "Versions" of colors is that cameras pick up those colors that were the original Fender Custom Colors differently. It's the same way with some of the colors that Ibanez has used. There were a few models Ibanez made that looked like they were even glowing on video just because of the color they used
@@wesleyzimmerman94 You are absolutely right. I compared my 3 Daphne Blue Strats and my Daphne Blue Soloist with this Jazzmaster. My Strats look great, but the Jazzmaster had a deeper glow/greenish tinge in comparison, while my Strats were a bit paler. My Soloist is lighter than my Strats anyway, while looking more like Sonic Blue compared to the Jazzmaster. Pics make Daphne Blue look different for obvious reasons like lighting, camera quality etc, so I try to keep comparisons to in person only. Daphne Blue looks the best in person, Surf Green is a close second for favorite hue.
Tobacco burst was always my favourite of the traditional brown bursts. I have a 3 colour sunburst strat but I love the more natural, muted colours of a tobacco burst 😍
I just got in a Short Scale Pbass body in Satin Honeyburst. It's so damn beautiful. I put a Warmoth neck on it. The whole thing is just outstanding quality. I'm planning a Strat build that's gonna be in cherryburst satin. Gotta wait till next year though. I'm gonna go all out in the custom shop.
I am of the team tobacco sunburst. However I just finished my first Warmoth build which is a black korina jazz bass finished in black to clear burst. Love it!
I tend to prefer the three color bursts. I'm very much looking forward to seeing your metallic and candied finishes and bursts. I'm not familiar with those, and I'm always looking for ideas, or inspiration, to use as a starting point for trying something new. Several years ago I had a client who wanted a figured walnut top, with deep purple to clear burst, with a curly maple pick guard that had a translucent white finish. I couldn't visualize this combination coming together, but when it was completed, mirror-like high gloss finish, with custom pickup covers, grain matched with the pick guard, and walnut knobs to match the top, it looked incredible. That experience has allowed me to listen to ideas from clients/customers with a bit more trust and open-mindedness.
Good morning, Ok, if I had to choose just one I would choose the Black, Brown, Yellow. Close second would be the Black, yellow. I'm glad you did this comparison. Thanks. James
Really enjoy your videos. They've been very helpful! Would love to see a video on transparent finishes like this burst one. Also one on pickguards, especially what might go with colors other than white, black or tortoise. Thanks.
having these graphics you put at the end of these video's showing a comparison would be great to have on the website, if they are there I guess I've not seen them but makes a big difference being able to see them side by side.
I just ordered a Black-Red-Yellow burst Jazzmaster replacement body, I'm looking forward to it, the warmish bursts are so good. Team Black-Red-Yellow burst all the way.
I love the Fender 3 color Black/Red/Yellow burst and Gibsons Cherry Sunburst after it darkens a bit. The Gibson color they offer now that I love is called Cherry Tea Burst/Royal Tea Burst. Warmoth has great taste in bursts, I’d love to have any single one of those bodies.
I'm more into the eye-catching bursts, like Bengal burst, Black Cherry Burst, Caribbean Burst, Jungle burst, Fire burst. I also love the metal flake options like Goblin flake, Holo flake, and Inferno flake.
My Blk/Red/Ylw burst Warmoth two-piece swamp ash body is the best looking version of that burst I’ve ever seen, the way the red is transparent and is perfectly blended from the black to the beautiful golden amber/yellow colour in the middle. I’m currently waiting on a right hand reverse SRV profile neck with black ebony fretboard to top off a fully wired and ready turquoise flake metallic Warmoth Strat body and then I’m looking at possibly Black/Brown/Yellow; black/yellow burst (or maybe I’ll go full bowling ball for another metallic flake finish) for a hybrid Strat body to build a 50’s p-bass inspired baritone Strat/Tele next. Only thing putting me off burst is how many of those squire ‘51 pawn shop guitars seem to be around in that colour now. Just browsing old videos in anticipation of more great Warmoth stuff 😂
I recently built a strat using a black-red-yellow burst body with a roasted maple/rosewood neck and absolutely love it, both the body and the neck are beautiful! I’m a sucker for the b-r-y burst but definitely looking at making a tobacco burst tele in the future 😉
I like the Black to clear burst allot. I actually own a Purple to clear burst Strat style body I purchased from Warmoth. That finish looks so fantastic under natural lighting! I love it! I can’t wait to purchase another Warmoth body as soon as I make some more room for another guitar. :) Thanks for the videos!
I'd really like to see all your bursts and various transparent or translucent finishes on roasted woods. What will butterscotch blonde look like on a roasted swamp ash, for example?
Team tobacco here, but Your honey burst looks awesome as well, like a fireball. Also I thought for the colour palette there are some at least unwritten standards, so thanks for learning something new again. You're the best Aaron!
My favorite burst is Black to clear - especially on Black Korina. Preferably with a satin finish. However - when I ordered a body from you a few years ago I chose a mahogany top with a black burst - which in retrospect was too dark. The amazing mahogany top doesn’t really show that well... I should’ve chosen the black to clear burst. Anoyhow - next time I’ll get a Strat body with a black Korina top in black to clear burst. Then I’ll finally be happy. 🤘😎🤘
Great video as always. The black-yellow looks green unlike the rest of the examples, or my dad's 56 strat which was clearly yellow as is was when I had it refinished in 86, no green effect. And it too was ash. Black-yellow is really sweet with single ply white or gold anodized pickgaurds. I also like the black-red-yellow with mint green.
I love your tobacco burst. I have a honey burst Les Paul, which was a tough decision at the time vs their tobacco burst. I want something different this time but still want to see plenty of wood grain. Before I recently decided to do my own build, I was debating a Fender honey burst tele vs Sunburst. You tobacco burst kind of splits the difference perfectly.
I am personally looking at a dragonburst soloist body warhead headstock build with roasted maple. Likely some DiMarzio Tone Zones, DiMarzio Fusion, or Bare Knuckle pickups.
Aaron, Fender now has a color they call Cognac Burst that is very similar to Tobacco Burst. They use it on their new bluegrass series mandolin and I really love that one...it looks to be a matte finish, as well, and that gives it a different look, also. Dan Erlewine of StewMac says that Gibson's sunburst outer color is actually not black but what they call Dark Salem Maple, which is a black/ brown mix.
It'd be great to see some of the dyes (which look like they might end up darker at the edges, at least in the custom body builder?) vs bursts, e.g. Tiger Eye dye vs Tobacco burst.
I had a Gibson les paul in their bourbon barrel. That to me is an absolute stunning burst. Hey Aaron got another question for you to cover sometime. With the Great Guitar Build off stuff its been inspiring. So I have been doing a few full kits. Getting good at staining my own. Could you talk about your Body Blanks, Unfinished bodies etc. The kits are ok but might get 5 piece body, not the greatest. So been looking at Warmoth stuff like that. BTW Been missing you and your vids. Thanks again for all you do.
Lovely colours! I think Tobaco Burst works for my tastes in this bunch. I've kind of hope you guys have an answer to a "Taxes Tea" ... yes I misspelled it on purpose.
Nice one Aaron, good stuff, thanks. How about comparing some of these bursts on roasted woods vs non-roasted woods? What does the yellow center on some of these bursts look like on roasted alder for example?
Really depends on the guitar, and the wood? The Black/Brown/Yellow, Tobacco, Tiger’s Eye and Honey are my favorites. Had a really nice Spalted Burl Maple top, LP junior - double cut Warmoth body, finished by Warmoth in Honey Burst...sadly sold many years ago! Never get to see Spalted Tops, or Gibson style bodies at Warmoth anymore 😢
Would love to see a white finish over a high grade quilt top! And also wondering why Warmoth won't sell bridge pickups when you select an angled pickup rout?
@@warmoth It was while I was playing around on the "build" website. I chose angled bridge pickup into wood routing, but by the time I got to pickup selection a message stated CURRENTLY WE DO NOT CARRY A PICKUP THAT FITS THIS ROUT. SORRY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.

Hi, Aaron. Thank you for the video. I know this question is off-topic, but since I can't seem to find a legit answer, I guess my best bet is you. People on forums are either hot or cold about oiling fretboards for maintenance. oiling the wood darkens it for sure. However, while some say it's bad since it loosens the glue of frets, inlays, and even the glue between the fretboard and the neck if it penetrates deep enough, others say it conditions the wood, giving it the moisture it needs to stay intact. Can you make a video explaining why we should or should not oil them and give us some insight into the rationale behind this pratice? Thank you and thank you so much!
I have a tobacco burst Les Paul. Definitely like it. One question... there used to be an option on your website to "black burst edges" for instance if I had a turquoise dye body I could opt to black burst the edges. I think it was a $50 upcharge. Is that still available? Something you'd have to call for?
Aaron, I just had an idea for a new metallic burst finish. Not sure if this would even work, but can you imagine a White Pearl to Lake Placid Blue burst? 🤔 I've always liked the idea of some kind of "white-to-blue" burst..... ya think Warmoth could try something like that sometime?
Can you all do the burst on the front, but keep the color of the edges all the way onto the back instead of the burst on both sides? Hopefully that made sense.
I have an Ash body that Warmoth did for me back around 2001, I could have swarm the guy on the phone called it “Brown Burst” but it must have been the Black/Brown/yellow. I have always called her “Brown Betty”🙂
