    Listened to the whole video. Here's my shorter version: DON'T INTERVIEW WITH META.
    Even if you get the best offer you can from them using these tactics, you'll work with colleagues who resent their hiring, team matching process and look at their dwindling compensation compared to peers outside.
    I worked in Meta during one of its best eras. Back then they overworked employees and had the worst attrition I've seen in other fang. But they paid really well to compensate for their demanding behavior. However, with that new information, Meta is trash all over.
    Just say no to Meta and make it known in your spheres.

    If you don't have a competitive offer or if it's from a late-stage (but pre-IPO) startup, does that mean that the only thing you can do is accept a lowball offer from Meta?

    • @interviewingio
      @interviewingio  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Some pre-IPO startups carry weight, and you can use them as leverage, but it varies from startup to startup. The hard thing is that Meta will ask for offer details, and likely the package will be worse than Meta's lowball offer. The devil is in the details, and it's hard to give good advice without a specific scenario.
      You can always ask them to add a signing bonus, and sometimes they will, even if you don't have other offers.

    What if they call your bluff and say go with your other offers if you don't like ours? Seems like a very high risk strategy.

    • @interviewingio
      @interviewingio  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We are not advocating that you bluff. We're advocating that you work hard on getting other offers and then disclose them when it's time to negotiate. If you have other offers from competitive companies, Meta will raise your comp. If you do not, then they will say that they can't raise your comp.
      The worst case is that they'll say no to raising it. They will not rescind the offer unless you're a jerk.

    Does down leveling actually happen after the team match completes? I thought the team matching was for specific job levels to begin with, how can they down level you after you already passed hiring committee for a level and then match to a team?

    • @interviewingio
      @interviewingio  28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In our experience, it happens sometime during team matching. They'll cite the specific team's needs and your interview performance.

    • @SunsetofMana
      @SunsetofMana 28 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@interviewingio typically you start the team match process after being told you passed the hiring committee, for a specific job level. Are you saying that the hiring committee decision can be down leveled based on team matching performance?

    • @interviewingio
      @interviewingio  12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@SunsetofMana No, it's not about team matching performance, but we've seen recruiters hold off on telling you the level until they know the needs of the team (at least officially that's the reason). For instance, if you did well for L5 but they say that the teams that are open only need L4. Unknown if this is true or a fabricated reason.

    How do we deal with aggressive timelines? Sorry if I missed it somewhere

    • @interviewingio
      @interviewingio  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      best thing you can do is slow-play team matching... if they give you the option to talk to multiple teams. these days that may not be on the table, though. they've gotten even more aggressive since publication

    • @deathbombs
      @deathbombs 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@interviewingio Thank you! If it's for companies without team matching, I assume best option is to slow play the offer negotiation process since after that the offer can't be modified?

    • @interviewingio
      @interviewingio  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@deathbombs I'll amend what I said above. Once you're done interviewing, if you're at a company that does team matching, that's the best part to slow play.
      Regardless of whether they do team matching or not, though, the best thing you can do is slow down the process while you're still interviewing. So, delay your phone screen or onsite and say you need more time to prepare. The only way this can backfire is if the company has limited headcount. If they fill the role, not much you can do. But most larger companies don't have this issue. We talk about how to go about this in the post as well.
