How many panels do you need for a smal 12,000 gallon pool..i have a shed type roof that faces the south in sunny NC..this would be great..also if i take a heat my heat temp gun and point it at roof is that a good guess at what temp water will be?
For a 12k gallon pool I would recommend around 200 sq ft of solar panels. The number of panels depends on the size of panel you can fit. For example, if you could fit a 4'x12' (48 sq ft ea) size panel it would be (4) 4'x12' that would total 192 sq ft. are there mounts that work on a curved tile roof (like clay tile hills and valleys tiles)?

Hi Tyler I live in South West Fla where it is VERY warm 8 out of 12 months Must I use a vacuum breaker on the roof? I always felt with the winds we get here it might be better to have the panels full of water all the time. YOUR THOUGHTS??? Thanks Rob
Hi Rob, a vacuum relief valve must be installed to depressurize the panels and piping. If it isn't installed the pressure of the vacuum can deform the panels and/or piping causing damage. How did you manage to paint the plumbing without getting paint on the roof shingles?
Our pipe support brackets found here www.solarpoolsupply.com/collections/parts-hardware/products/pvc-pipe-support-bracket?_pos=1&_sid=872079d25&_ss=r&variant=41041451483312 actually lift the pipe up off the roof so you can fit cardboard or cloth underneath. Another benefit is it allows water and debris to drain off the roof properly.
What is the "drain loop"? What equipment do I need and how do I install it?
The drain loop assembly connects the solar feed and return lines together with a small hose so that when the pump is off the panels and feed pipe automatically drain back down through the return pipe. All you need is a drill and bit to install these. The pipes must be right next to each other as well the hose is only 10" long

Yes, but you will need to build a roof rack to lift the panels above the seams. S-5! makes brackets for standing seam roofs that will allow you properly secure the roof rack to the roof. don't you need a check valve on the heat return side?
It depends on the installation. For a manual control it's good practice, but not mandatory. Only application it would be mandatory would be a fully automated solar control setup.

can you install on a flat roof
Yes, they can be installed on a flat roof. The main concern would be draining water from the panels. Any time the weather reaches the low 40's there can be no water in the panels. A minimum pitch of 1/8" per foot of panel is required for drainage.
Where do you put the sensors at?
For automated solar control systems there are both water and solar sensors. The water sensor will be located on the pool equipment before the solar bypass to gauge existing pool water temp and is a probe sensor that mounts to the PVC pipe. The solar sensor should be located near the solar panels in a spot that gets the same sun exposure as the panels and these can be either the probe or block style sensors.

It depends on your location, orientation of the panels, and the results you want to achieve, but a general range for total system size would be 200-300 sq ft of solar panels. If you have space for the longer 4'x12' panels that would (4-6) of that size.
@@solarpoolsupply9793 Thanks, sorry I should have been a bit more specific. Yes the 4X12 would fit and I am in central FL. The roof is a southern exposure so it gets sun all day.
@@mattpechulonis6184 for central florida, south facing, and assuming a screen enclosure I would recommend 250-300 sq ft of solar so (5-6) of the 4x12 sized panels.

We only sell DIY products, so I can't provide an installed quote. It does fluctuate quite a bit across the country depending on the installation. There are a lot of variables that go into total costs.

In theory it could, but there is no data to support that. It would also depend on how much of the roof is covered. The panels are cooler to the touch when water is flowing through them so it could help.
