    Sproul is always great, but injecting background music is distracting. Hearing it on a TH-cam video is no different than if we were sitting in the congregation. We would consider it RUDE if someone did it at the moment when R.C. actually spoke, and, if he heard that music (even softly) while he was preaching this message, he would stop and ask you to turn if off.
    Second, among well-meaning people who insert background music behind the preaching of God's word, there is a tacit assumption that the preaching of God's word is somehow enhanced by adding some kind of media. WRONG! Nothing--and I mean nothing--improves the proclamation of sacred scripture. Adding background music only subtracts from it. Turn it off, please.

      The more important part the Greek makes clear is that he sent his Son for those that believe in Him, he did not send his Son for anyone else. Here is the verse translated correctly.
      John 3:16 - HCSB
      For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.

    I have a question about John 3 16. When I witnessed to mormons I tell them it's God's only son but the come back at me with his only begotten son... which means God then had many sons... what is the meaning of begotten and how to I get past that to get them to realize they have a distorted view of God?

    • @jasoncarver9222
      @jasoncarver9222 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lauren, awesome question! Jesus is God's only begotten Son in that He is of the same divine substance as the Father; we are not. We are made in His image, but we are not divine; Jesus, however, is. Those who believe in Christ are adopted into the family of God (Rom 8:14, Titus 3:7, etc.); we are therefore sons and daughters by adoption through faith in Christ whereas Jesus is intrinsically God's Son. With regard to Mormonism, I think that Galatians 1:8 sums it up, "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed." Christ completed His work and ascended to the right hand of the Father as evidenced in Hebrews 10:12-13, "But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool." Hope this helps! May the Lord bless you!

    I've never heard anyone say this is a verse to proclaim universality doctrine,I think Dr sproul knows what is meant here,it's not hard to take God at His word, those who truly believe will have everlasting life:-)if a man only had that verse on a piece of paper ripped out of a bible it would still be enough to save him,the word didn't profit them cause their faith was not mixed with it the bible talks about(maybe not those exact words),was it the Philippians jailer that was told believe on the Lord Jesus and thou shalt be saved, that's all he was told outside that cell that day, question is was that enough to save him,of course it was, that man was accountable with that one verse concerning what he would do with the son of God himself, there was no deep theological conversing back n forth I'm sure, just the simple love of God in believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved:-),I feel the joy of the Holy Ghost in me as I say these very words amen glory be to God in who alone consists all things lol amen

      What R C is saying is that believing in the lord is a work of the holy spirit in you .
      The philipian Jailer was being drawn by the holy spirit to ask and therefore he was goin to receive.
      Some christians have taken this verse and tried to brow beat or bible bash anyone into confessing Jesus in a clinical black and white way .
      Apart from the work of the holy spirit in there heart you cant convince people to utter this verse.
      Christians have tried to and this is what R C was addressing.

      The music appeals to those who God has gifted with musical abilities. For many it causes them to connect more fully with what is being said and to move with the Holy Spirit. I did not especially like this music. it was a little redundant but it didn't distract me. For folks who are hard of hearing the music ruins it for them. They can't hear the words at all. Maybe there should be one with music and one without but then we would not get to exercise patience with one another.

    Well, personally, I think that the most misunderstood verses are the ones in the Gospels which generally read, " . . this is my body." It is not "is", literally; it's symbolic. In fact, some translations render it with a dash: " . . this - my body.."
    Besides, those at the Last Supper were all Jewish men, who would not drink literal blood. So, that, too, was symbolic. Read U. Zwingli's "18th Article" for reference.

    In an analytical depth perception of this scripture, surprize, surprize, surprize. When we reverse the numbers we get 613 sound familiar? The total number of laws in the Tanach all fulfilled by His sacrifice. In Strong's Exhaustive Concordance in the Greek we find, "" to conceal away"(i.e. fully") fig. to keep secret:--hide. Are these not references to the rapture? HIDDEN in plane sight? Is it not a JOY to find these things out? Is there any depth perception out there? I'm wonder and am AMAZED. R Wayne , with the capitalization of all in your comment I think you are using it for inclusiveness. Study the use of “all” in scripture. Sometimes it referred to an inclusive smaller circle within a larger circle. So some believe ALL here can refer to all who are chosen or all nations or all will be drawn for judgement for the blood will either save you or not. You do the study.

    This scripture was written in accordance to God's perspective and not to the perspective of man. The word "world" in the mind of God was His perfect creation. But because of the fall of the first man un opportunity was opened to the devil to plant the seeds of his kind on earth (gen 3:15, mat 13:24-30). Unfortunately even all of the elect of God will go to damnation because of sin, so God made the intervention through Jesus for the salvation of all that He love and know before He created this earth (eph 1:4-5).
