It's the exact same wood... they just sanded it. If you look at the grain carefully before and after it's clearly the same wood just sanded
it's not though. It's a completely different piece. Look at how the first one is split and fitted. The other telling feature is that it's a WHOLE OTHER GOD DAMN SHADE LIGHTER DIFFERENT FROM THE ONE HE WAS WORKING WITH. The finished product is also missing the slat lines from the wedge because it's a drop in piece and not a hammer in. It's a fake my guy, don't believe everything you see on the internet especially if you aren't going to look at it that well
It is the same wood... don't patronize me asshole... the reason there's no slat lines or anything like that is because he filled in holes with sawdust-wood glue mixture... the reason it LOOKS lighter is because he sanded it and also it's at a different angle to the sun... the grain is exactly the same... so no its not fake and don't patronize me and tell me I need to look closer when you're the one who improperly evaluated the clip

There is a reason professionals don't build like this, just because it looks cool doesn't mean it's actually practical. And that's not even talking about the fact that they switched frames at the end

Actually it is practical. I have made many doors like this including very large oak doors. The advantage of a foxwedge joint is that you don't get rot and water ingress through the exposed end grain that you can with a traditional mortice and tenon. And once that joint is pressed home and the PVA is set, trust me, it's going nowhere.
That is a valid joint. We don't build with this technique in the mass because it takes a lot of time and money to do it this way. Remember there are buildings thousands of years old using these techniques where some of our most recent buildings are built to be replaceable.
Professionals? lol, the reason you don't do his is because you're not a master woodworker. Joints like this last longer and stronger than just hammering a nail to join the wood together.

It only works well in the softer wood types. Hardwoods tend to crack or completely split. A little lubricating oil on the wedges and in the grooves may help. Make sure the grooves are cut exactly the same length as the wedges. Carpentry is great!

I'm 90% sure that this joint is real. It's meant to allow you to make a dovetail joint in the middle of a beam. The readon why this one was done on the edge was so you could see it.

This is for an example. The actual use would not have the open face as seen here. If it did, they would do just that, and cut the exact dovetail.
Это ещё не факт, что при забивании клиньев у темного дерева не треснут в основании те тонкие боковые части. Когда делают гнутую мебель не все слои дерева остаются целыми. Это можно заметить на старых стульях с гнутыми спинками.

I think this is a Japanese wood working technique. There was a time in Japan's history where they didn't have a whole lot of metal lying around, and what little they had was used to make swords and nothing else. You can find some pretty old Japanese structures still standing today that were built like this.

That wood was a sitting almost an 1/8 inch under the joint. But with Sanding and wood dust, you magically brought it out to level? Did they also fix the giant cracks and splits in the grain that the wedges caused?
This is a demo. You wouldn't be able to see if if it was done in a real placement. Ffs.
@Alacritous so they film a demo of the improper way of doing a dovetail, cut camera, then show a joint that was very clearly made by not using the method they used in the video? If it's supposed to be a mortise and tenon, you're ruining both the structural integrity and finish of the wood. A half dovetail and wedge would be 10x better and give you the ability to separate the joint in the future if necessary. But I'm the asshole, got it 👌

Идея интересная и вполне рабочая, но нужен очень точный расчёт клиньев и пропилов. И сажать надо на клей, тогда даже в случае, если будет трещина, то соединение будет работать, как надо.
You cut your wedges and place all pieces in the opening, having the wedges left and right of the main piece, before you wedge them. You adjust the wedges until all fits in the space. Then you can wedge the piece in place.
Походу трещина и получилась потому что там склейка и дальше на видео соединение уже без клиньев .

これは断面を見せてわかりやすくしてるだけで、釘無しで柱が建てられるということだと思います。

@@keydwish4805 почему вы думаете, что они так сделали? Я как реставратор и иконописец вижу эти шпонки в конце, просто они очень хорошо зашкурены. Но они мне видны.
Но я имела ввиду, что если деталь открытая, как здесь, то можно и сверху вложить. Шпонки нужны только если паз внутри и другим способом не влезть. Но может быть он это сделал, чтобы показать этот способ.
Но в любом случае, не всякое дерево выдержит и выпил должен быть грамотный.
Я один заметил что в конце он её подменил, она не могла так идеально состыковаться, ну не шла она к этому, а в последнюю секунду камера ушла на секунду и идеальный стык, ну как так

Clever idea. But an even more clever use of deceptive camera angles.
If you stop this video before the pounding stops you see several gaps and that the right, thin piece of teak or mahogany is actually breaking. It has a crack going all of the way through/across it.
So with various camera angles and perhaps sawdust and glue the defects are covered over, filled in, obscured.
Depending on how that joint is used or where it is used, it might be a joint that easily fails. Perhaps catastrophically!
A properly cut dove tail joint does not need added wedges or shims. Or glue and saw dust for filler!
Sorry, but this dovetail joint is a Complete FAIL!!!
After sanding, the wood dust will fill in the cracks and you will no longer see them

This will absolutely work with specific hardwood like mahogany as pictured and humidity. I hope glue or adhesive was applied prior?
