Thank you such an in depth video! I would appear to also be an idiot that didn't check oil levels after getting a salvage box... 1.9 z3 converted to a 2.8 with a supercharger and the poor gearbox has no oil in it!

Where is the differential in relation to the transmission located?

There is no dip stick to check with. Fluid level is checked by removing the oil fill plug on the side of the transmission, the fluid should be level with the bottom of the port. The vehicle will also need to be on a level surface for this.

Thanks for your in depth videos.
Would this process be any different for a Getrag 250 gearbox oil change? Are the drain plugs in different spots?

The plugs look like they are tapered, so shouldn't you use thread sealant? I'm about to do my 2000 M Roadster so I want to get it right. I had another vehicle with a tapered differential drain plug and the manual called for thread sealant on that one.

Interesting, mine are not tapered so sealant was not used.
Looking at realOEM, we share the same p/n for that bolt between the M and non-M.

Take a look on the side of your trans for the sticker that says fluid type on it. Some say ATF on it, in that case I don't know enough to say that you could put the MTF in it. If the sticker says MTF LT-1 OR LT-2 your good to use this fluid. The fluid label has a compliance part number listed on it for the LT-2 fluid.
