    So many of the homesteading channels have gone “doom and gloom” now. Thank you for this breath of fresh air Kelli. I love to keep a sweet disposition in my home and my husband “stays aware”. Men can handle larger stress loads anyway. As women, we can keep our homes as SANCTUARIES. ❤️

    Coming back to add more thoughts. I have an old friend who I believe has been driven quite literally insane from her constant consumption of "news". She has become so incredibly toxic that I had to cut her off completely. She will not listen to reason and she has isolated herself from everyone who cares for her. It's always the scariest, most doomsday stories that she is the most drawn to (and then she spreads the fear to others). She has become a self-brainwashed shell of her former self. It's incredibly sad. Due to my experience with her, I'm extra thankful for your take on all of this, Kelli. You speak 100% truth, and ESPECIALLY to those personality types who are more naturally prone to anxiety or obsession.

    Great timing! I need to heed this advice about consuming news. I’ve certainly felt despair for awhile now wondering how much longer God will let things be. This has led me to actually being angry at God. Not because I blame Him for the corruption, but because I wonder why He won’t bring down the fire and brimstone. This is not how I’m supposed to feel…
    Thank you for explaining this topic so well with scripture. God bless ❤

    I agree! I cancelled Amazon as well. I will look for my items elsewhere. Thank you for your encouragement and wisdom and YES! I, too wish there were more Christians that thought like this! I'm so happy I found your channel and the one you have with your husband. Godly wisdom and much appreciated. So glad to know my husband and I are not alone and modeling our lives after Christ and what God says in His word.

    Such an important topic to talk about. In the beginning as a Christ follower I felt it was helpful to learn about the evil around me because I was oblivious, but now that I’m further in my journey, I no longer need to see it and I try to stay away from the drama. Thank you for sharing!

    I deliberately stopped ‚being informed‘ in 2020. Before that I was getting angrier and angrier about constantly being lied to.
    During Corona I finally realized: I do not have to listen! I focus on my family instead, on making my home a haven.
    You are spot on: Once you know something isn’t in line with your values, move on. Don’t waste your energy by dwelling on negative things.

    Totally agree with this. I actually told my husband that I have to guard my heart so he needs to be careful about what and how much he chooses to share with me. I've found that I am very heavily affected by all of the bad things going on the world. I'd hear about something terrible happening and be depressed for days. I'd cry at the worst stories and struggle to stop thinking about them. My compassion for others is not a bad thing, but it is when it's spread to so many things that I can do nothing to help with. I felt hopeless and when I finally moved past one thing, something new was happening. It was a terrible cycle to be in. So I unsubscribed from those channels, got off social media, and let my husband know that I'd be relying on him to share what I need to know.

    I live in the UK and have not watched the morning news channels since January this year. Why? They changed their music to very dramatic music - too early in the morning for me. I would prefer something gentler or uplifting.
    It has been 9 months now and none of my family or neighbours has mentioned any news stories to me, so I don't feel that I am missing out on anything. If anything was important, I am sure I would find out eventually.

    Such a great video. I did just order Killing Uncle Sam for my Father in law because I was looking for a good book for his birthday and it sounds like one he would enjoy. I am currently trying to avoid the fear mongering channels and accounts. I go back and forth with it, where I want to be informed, or I realize that it's just all stress and fear. They are all selling! They're selling fear! Yes we are prepared for emergencies, including inflation, but I agree, the fear mongering is ongoing, distracting, and not helpful to us as wives and mothers. Thank you for encouraging us to stay away from the fear and focus on staying positive and productive.

    This is so true! If you do still want to stay in touch with some news, I would recommend the World magazine or a printed newspaper once a week. I think reading a printed paper is better on stress levels than watching a news video or channel on TV. And you can choose which articles to read or not read😊 since getting married, I have not read a newspaper or listened to much news and I don't miss it nearly as much as I thought I would! My husband tells me about news, and it is better for me to have him keep up on the news instead of me😊

It suprised me how anxious, fatiqued, and acky i am this weekend. As you spoke im reminded of the verses that say, true religion is to look after orphans and widows and to keep ourseves by being poluted from the world. Thank you for your ideas and encouragment. God bless you Scott and Kelli. I have had my husband inform me on news and politics - because he can synthesize well what is important and pertinent. My news consumption is apples weather widget - just what I need for the day.
    I have unfollowed so many accounts that are doom and gloom. It’s so true that these news accounts are seeking not just to inform you but to profit and that means “content” is driven by what gets clicks and attention not what is worthy and what is excellent.
    Thanks for bringing up this topic with calmness and I can see how peacefulness at home makes you a gentler spirit.

I however have not let it consume me or make me a doom and gloom individual. I spend time in prayer and the word to keep me mentally healthy and uplifted. I do understand this is not for everyone(staying totally informed)

    I’m so glad you talked about this because I feel as if when I’m indulging in news and the fear room clickbait stuff, it feels as though I’m sinning, it doesn’t seem obvious especially when people say “well you can’t bury your head in the sand”. But so much of what I consume in the news is in excess and it stimulates some kind of anxiety cycle that also feels addictive. It’s so strange. I believe God spoke to me through you and that he’s been telling me this for a while and I’ve just ignored him. Thank you so much for making a video on this. ❤

    • @homewithkelli
      @homewithkelli  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is soo true, that is the biggest push back is the "bury your head in the sand comment" and it is an endless cycle of bad news that you can't do anything about most of the time. And most of us are doing the best we can to set ourselves and families apart from being affected by the world's craziness! I'm glad the video was helpful!

    had a friend years ago who was suffering from severe depression - like refuse to get out of bed, depression & she had 3 young kids & a husband to take care of. The depression was understandable on one level; her brother killed himself with drugs & it was the other brother who supplied him. That would depress any sister of course. But when she finally sought therapy, it came out that the very FIRST thing she did in the morning before getting out of bed was turn on their bedroom tv to the news. (I argue that No ONE should have a tv in the bedroom, but I digress, as I would not have a tv in a house at all) The news would accentuate her depression about her brother. The therapist told her she was not allowed to watch the news in the morning - she was to get up & get busy. She said it made the biggest change in her life. A few years ago, I too, got hooked into a lot of the 'panic news' because I knew for a while that we are lied to all the time. For a while it made me feel 'vindicated' that I was right about everything. It turned me into a very unhealthy person. My husband finally told me that I needed to cut it out & I did. I realized that I was wasting a lot of time (which was not apparent at the time, because it was an incremental thing consuming me) and my house, relationships, etc...were suffering for it. I still see the headlines & once in awhile I DO want to know what is going on generally, so I check in, but it no longer consumes me, because I know I have much more productive, peaceful endeavors to get to. It started leaving me more time to do a lot of spiritual 'homework', too. And you know, I was 'right' about alot of things but it didn't help me feel better to be 'right'.

    Amen! A very Godly outlook on this topic! It reminded me of this specific verse in Proverbs 31:25, Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come.
    The Proverbs 31 woman actually laughed at the future, because her trust was totally in the Lord, and we are to be the same.
    Bless you.

    There is such a funny quote: “Once I tried to understand the world. Then change it. Then change my attitude towards the world. And now I’m sure that if you wash the windows in the house, there will be more benefits.” It’s the same with the news - I used to try to find out as much news as possible about events in the world, but now I think it’s better to put things in order in my house.

    • @homewithkelli
      @homewithkelli  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Not a stupid question at all! I plan on doing a video on this here soon, so I can go into more detail then. We have a few issues with them, the biggest being their anti Christian values/practices. Also, extorting/undercutting/edging out small businesses. They have created a monopoly, causing small businesses to feel obligated to sell through them, while being robbed by them and then also getting their unique products copied by Amazon or other cheap foreign companies and sold for cheaper.
      I think by Amazon not even being an option for us, it's forced me to find other options to buy things. And you could always use it as a search engine and see if that company that sells on amazon also have their own website they sell from, so more money can go direct to them, rather than splitting the cut with Amazon.
      I hope that makes sense!

A few times I've found good sources while searching etsy and then buying direct from their shop rather than their etsy shop.

Sometimes my sister will send me a podcast talking about how it’s the end times now because of how our world currently is and it’s very upsetting. We aren’t even supposed to know when the end times are, so why focus on it?

      Hey Michelle! Yeah, I'm with you, we won't know the end times. I know this world is full of lies, because the devil (the liar) is the ruler of this world (not earth of course- the worldly/the world). Always just lean on the Lord❤️✝️🙏🏾 but like you said be wise, store grain (physical and spiritual). God is the only one who deserves our “fear” (biblical fear of the Lord).

Birth pangs are getting stronger and closer! Bible prophecy is exciting to learn about. News, politics..def not. We see Gods word unfolding in the world, so we are to be ready and waiting with great anticipation for the rapture with our oil in our lamps. Not uninformed with no oil in our lamps🕊

      And see, I differ from you in this. I actually INCLUDE "end times news" to be one of the anxiety-inducing things that I do NOT need to be focusing on. I do not believe that one can focus on that but at the same time, avoid the news... it all goes together. I prefer to simply live my life in the best manner that I can. There is a high likelihood (in my opinion) that I will live to be an old lady and never see the end times, anyway.

    • @dianebart804
      @dianebart804 ปีที่แล้ว

      About 30% of the Bible is prophetic. If you read your Bible ,you can’t help but read our actual current events:)
      It goes hand in hand. Rather a good balance of worldly current events from reliable Godly pastors that my husband agrees with only makes me a more knowledgeable and excited Christian woman 👏🏻This also allows for great conversation with my husband and strengthens my walk with MY Lord and gets me so motivated to share Gods word daily as I go out into the world as I do my daily tasks.
      If you’re not listening to eschatology, then you’re not aware of how the nations are aligning with Ezekiel 38 -39. We do not know the day or hour, we should not guess. But , God gave us the Olivet Discourse for a reason. The apostles wanted to know when?
      It’s all about balance ladies, even too much innocent homemaking videos will leave us dry and fruitless for the world, just where the serpent would want us.
      The ten virgins were women.. 5 we’re ready and watching for their groom.. 5 thought they had time. Keep one eye up watching for His return, and one eye on the plow.

    I respect your opinion about following what's going on around the world and in government. But, I have to respectfully disagree.... So many of us had that view around the whole world and it allowed the mess with what happened in 2020-2023 and so many lost their jobs and even worse they lost their lives over it. And now the truths are coming out about how the government's around the world did this.
    Information is the key to everything. As an example, in Davos the elites are meeting from countries all over the whole world. What they are discussing could effect your channel and you talking about God and homesteading and being a housewife. You could be deemed and labled a "miss informationer" and they could shut your channel over it. Knowing this, you may want to start looking into having your own website, or something else.
    My point is information is the key to life, and it's all our responsibility to get it for ourselves. But it's also our responsibility to not be worried about things, that's God job. Also God expects us to responsible to prepare for what we know. So, stay informed and encourage others to do the same so we don't end up as the Jews did in WWII.
    God bless and thank you for your wonderful information.

    Hey sister, I love your videos however I’m just curious…how come you don’t present yourself modestly, covering your hair and not wearing jewelry or makeup?

    Thanks for your information, but Ronald Reagan did not endorse abortion. In fact, he was known for his opposition to abortion during his time as the President of the United States. He was a pro-life advocate and supported policies and appointments that aligned with his anti-abortion stance.
    Please double check that information, don’t rely on what a book says as true value.
