I love that we have so much non hetero representation in the media these days, but it drives me crazy when the story is all about the fact that they are not straight, or cis. It's important to tell stories focused on their sexual or gender identity, but we have SO MANY already. I want to see more media that just casually let's them be them, and tell us other stories about them. All of that is to say, I agree, well said!
Thank you! And yes, I agree. I want to tell both kinds of story, myself. Like right now I’m working on a coming of age mlm romance which focuses on themes within the community more. But I’m also writing a sci-fi comic where some of my characters just happen to be lgbtqia+ Having diversity in the types of story is important, just like having diversity in the kinda of representation! 👏
I've had characters pop up as LGBTQ+ sometimes, but I'm not really comfortable with deep love stuff so I tend to go the Ghibli Route with romance with Straight and LGBTQ+ characters. Just remember that no matter what kind of character you make - they are a Person.
