But I watched all your videos and you know by yourself why we both don’t have one… High torque nakeds are my favorite, if BMW made a 6cyl K1600 naked, I would love to have it! Wish you all the best!
A most excellent machine. Not really heard a bad word about them. And thanks for the reminder of the Algarvian roads. Love riding down there. Bmw mitirsport colours? Hmm. Ich nicht kenne. Happy travels 👍
Enjoyed that - thanks. Your roads seem rather like ours in Tasmania. Lots of bends, up and downs. Moreover our police are well funded and very keen to prevent >110Km/h on the few boring bits. Perfect for our Speed Twins. The places we northerners end up!!!
I have a 2020 Speed Twin, which I purchased a few weeks ago, just wondered do you have a continuous electrical "whine" from the throttle bodies, I can twist the throttle with the engine not running and the whine changes pitch. The dealer says they all do that?
Well I think it suits you well and I am glad you are keeping it. (suits you, sir) As to BMW colours I think that most likely is the M spec red white blue... but I hope its the glorious shaded metallics of the mid 80s bikes ie the bronze, gun metal etc. All best 👍
I like your point about the tires. The big difference I found out between more race oriented slicks, like the Metzlers, was the quick warm up time. I have the Road 5’s on my R NineT, and love them. Great feel, really great wet performance (not that it is too wet here in Colorado), but most importantly longevity. RevZilla, an online retailer here in the states, have claimed some of their staff getting over 12k miles on them. I have put about 2.5k on my road 5’s and they still look new, no squaring off. I haven’t riden the new Road 6’s, but I can imagine they are only better then the 5’s which I would highly recommend to any street rider.
Thanks. I have ridden the Z900RS, but only very briefly. It's a fabulous machine that looks even better than the Speed Twin, imo. However, it's not quite as beefy and overall not as much fun to ride. I was very surprised when the Missenden Flyer bought one when he already had the Speed Twin.
Could well do, though I'm not expecting the bike to be ready until the beginning of May at the earliest. Enjoy your trip, it's nice and warm here at the moment, after a sketchy March/April so far.
Just out of interest have you tried a Z900rs? I’m not sure if you have ridden one, but I didn’t see it on your comparison chart? I owned one and loved it but am considering the Speed Twin for my next bike.
The Z900 RS has been top of my wanted list for months, but the dealer here can't (or won't) put out a demonstrator bike. He says new bikes are so hard to get at the moment that what little stock they do receive is held back to sell brand new to customers. Frustrating, but I can't blame them really.
Hi Rocketman - Love to know your thoughts on the differences between the Street Twin 1200cc and 900cc. And is it worth paying for the upgrade to the 1200cc? Thank you
In a word yes. In isolation, the 900 is fine, but it’s not really sporty at all. And once you’ve tried the 1200, you’ll never be satisfied with the 900. In the same way, if ever Triumph bring out a Speed Twin 1500, I’ll trade mine in in a heartbeat😂🤦♂️
I'm thinking of selling my street triple rs for this bike and I was glad to hear you had experience with both ..do you honestly like riding this bike more?
Absolutely - the 2017 Street Triple RS I had was very fast, but you had to really rev it to access the power. The Speed Twin isn't quite so fast at the top end, but at speeds up to about 60mph, the torque makes it just so much easier to ride. It's also a lot more comfortable :)
Hi I'm from India and has been hooked to your channel for the last 6-8 months, love your style of presentation, it's crisp, precise and very easy to understand. Kudos to you for your channel. If you'd be kind enough to spare some time and answer few of my queries I'll be highly obliged. If you do consider my preposition please let me know as to how can I connect. Thanks
Hi Rocketman, I am in the UK and am trying source a Rizoma screen with mounting. I am really struggling. I have a 2022 speed twin. Do u have any contact s. Thanks Tim. Keep up the great work!
I bought mine from carpimoto.com in Italy, but just had a look and couldn’t find the screen. I actually removed mine for the custom paint job I had done, and haven’t put it back yet. I think I prefer the look of the bike without it😊
I also own a Speed Twin. Prior to the Speed Twin I had a BMW F900XR. I have to say the build quality and overall engine /transmission smoothness, ST is head and shoulders above the BMW. The ST is a beautiful motorcycle with plenty of torc. The only thing I want to upgrade is the suspension. Other than that the Speed Twin is a great motorcycle that I will hold on to for a long time.
Have you tried riding the Kawasexy Z900rs? I think you’d appreciate the 4 cylinder smoothie torque, handling, comfort, brakes, looks and quality. I love the contrast between riding it and my 2017 Triumph Bobber. It’s like Tom Cruise vs Marlon Brando! Thanks for great review and ride safe! 👍🏍
@@RocketMan_Moto No problem. Come out to San Diego, CA and you can ride mine free of charge! Or maybe try a rent a ride service if they’re available in your parts?
Cool. Agree with many of your thoughts. For the extra 40bhp I went with the Speed Triple 1050RS. Whilst it is a totally different beast, the low down grunt, QS and sound track to accompany it is addictive. Shall look forward to your new bike reveal after it’s had it’s paint job. Michelin Road 6 tyres should be fantastic if the previous gen 5s are anything to go by. Awesome in both wet and dry road riding.
I rode a mate's R9T briefly - very nice, but quite a bit more expensive than the Speed Twin once you start adding the options (which I know I would have, lol)
Thanks. I've done a review of the 900, if that's any use. Tbh, I found it a bit buzzy (vibrations) and ever so slightly dull, though to be fair, I'm not really into adventure bikes :)
Great review as always, if I was younger it’s the type of bike I’d get . Being someone who never takes a pillion ( insurance doesn’t cover it ) I wish they’d bring out a lower pillion seat without the hump . I’m at the age when getting on a bike my hips really complain and have to sit sometimes over 5 minutes before pain goes away , get rid of that hump problem solved . Ps I’m willing to pay for the difference 😊😊👍👍
Removing the catalisators, 3, will give you some more power and torque and the engine runs much smoother, the sound will get a little louder, have you considered that?
Have the same bike, color and all, for 4 months now. Close to 30 mods so far. The biggest glaring issue for me is the engines response above 5000rpm. I live in Montana where I ride at speeds above 80mph for long periods. I've already changed out the countershaft sprocket for a 17tooth in an attempt to keep the R's down. I'm going to reflash the ECU map to unleash the engines full potential. Supposedly, theres another 1000rpm that can be utilized during W.O.T. pulls. From 80 to 100mph the bike pulls hard. But if I'm cruising at around a hundo, like I often do, and slam it W.O.T. it's just not there. I'm very happy with the bike in every other way, and will not be selling it. Just need to be able to tickle that 8000rpm redline a bit quicker.
@@RocketMan_Moto I definitely wouldn't go as far as to say it's pointless? At 4500rpm in 6th gear with a 17 tooth front sprocket, I'm at approx. 90mph. The speed limit is 80mph on the highway so I'm usually sitn around 85-90mph. I need the extra 1000rpms the bikes capable of revving to. That 7000 thru 8000rpm window can be unlocked with an ECU tune. Many people have commented about the lack of top end when test riding especially the first gen Speed Twin. That's why they upgraded the engine with the Thruxton Tune on the new model.
@@RocketMan_Moto Just need an impact gun to remove and retourqe the countershaft nut. Taking the plastic cover off and holding the radiator puke tank out of the way is simple. Then the rear axle nut and chain tensioners have to be loosened to get enuff slack in the chain to allow fitment of the larger sprocket. Don't forget to beat the lock washer away from the countershaft nut and then back tight against it after retourqe. Make sure the transmission is in neutral so your not hammering against it with the impact. Don't overtighten the chain and use a synthetic spray on lube before every ride to keep the O-rings conditioned. The Sprocket Center is where I shop. Hope this helps? Makes 1rst. gear much more usable.
Like you RocketMan I have a Street Triple Rs as you can see & "I too have been waiting patiently for an Rs version of your bike as I would gladly chop in my Street Triple rs for one but it needs more power as you say + some new paint choices + updated clocks & some tasty Ohlins on the back or even the front but I really don't think Triumph will listen to us but I will continue to be patient & just hope they listen to fed back if you get where I'm coming from? 🙄🤞🏻 Great video can't wait to see the new look Speed Twin RocketMan? 😊👍🏻
Thanks, Dave. A 140hp Speed Twin would be the absolute perfect bike, imo. The Street Triple RS was great, but too peaky for me and I found it encouraged me to 'ride everywhere at 100mph'. I do miss the top-end shove, though - the Speed Twin is ultra grunty low down, but beyond 75-80mph there's not much left. Ride safe :)
@@RocketMan_Moto No worries RocketMan I'm so very pleased with my Street Triple Rs but the Misses won't get on the back as you know no flat seat soo that's my thinking waiting patiently for a Rs version of the Speed Twin especially with updated Ohlins, Clocks, And a tad more power would be right up my street + the misses can get on the back + I would actually like cruise control & a bliper would be a nice little treat hehe? 😊👌🏻👍🏻
Great summary and honest review and opinions. It's a bike very high on my list when funds allow and I prefer the red option. I would consider the previous model but prices are not low enough in the UK to tempt me. If I had the previous model I would want to swap the silencers and treat it to a paint job, my thoughts are a bright yellow with black accents and carbon fibre touches. It's subjective but I think would work. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with yours 👍
@@RocketMan_Moto I was thinking the yellow from the speed triple 94R but the meteor yellow is very similar. I think it would be a very different look 😀👍
@@RocketMan_Moto I would do it if the bike was a keeper but I work in the paint trade and a mate of mine does paintwork on some British superbikes so it wouldn't be an issue if I wanted to go back to standard.
Rocketman, you commented that the YSS shocks are set at 15mm lower than stock and yet your are 6’1’! Surprising, did you lower the yokes and slide the forks up? I just had all new Nitron suspension fitted and find the bike even taller! 5’8’ here 🙁. Bar reach is a bit much for the short arms too!
I have a 2020 model and love it, bar the known issues of mediocre suspension and squeaky brakes. The 2022 upgrade tempts me, but I've invested in the fixes for mine already and I really don't like the new paint schemes.
@@RocketMan_Moto Yeah for sure. Keen for a look. I saw a video where a guy from Asia had painted his speed twin white. Looked really nice actually. Triumph are fast too conservatives on their factory paint schemes. No need to produce day Glo pink, but come on.
Hi, I'm nosing around for my next bike, and prefer the torque-laden ones. Had a BMW R Nine T a few years back which was good fun ! This one came on my Radar, and I'm thinking of giving it a go. The only thing visually I don't like about it is the exhaust - that odd black end cap really looks out of place. I've read that Triumph used to fit an optional V&H pipe and it looks great and sounds pretty good too (I'm assuming it's road legal as Triumph dealers sold it). Have you ever thought of that ? The only other question is have you had a pillion on the back (any thoughts on comfort) ? Thanks for the vid !
I have thought of the V&H but it’s a costly swap just for the black end cap, although I agree it’s ugly. I have taken passengers but it’s a small bike and not great for distances two up
I think this was an excellent choice of bike. But I'll be sticking with my 1670cc 2-valve-per-head air-cooled V-twin Yamaha MT-01; 110 ft/lb of torque at 3,750 rpm. That ADV350 is really wide.
@@RocketMan_Moto For how long? Just so you know, I’m following your footsteps. I’m turning in my Trident for a Speed Twin this week. The main reason for me is the many upcoming problems with the Trident. Many Trident owners in Thailand are getting the same problems starting at 6000km. The problems are oil leaks, engine shutdown during deceleration, etc. I’m afraid it would happen to me in the future and I also like the looks and the sound of the Speed Twin.

good one ,, please no grey or black ;;; i think if i started biking again i would have one of these ,; punchy mid range , sit up position and good looks ,. i hope people will realise that these are your views on your bike in your time and and just enjoy the video rather than criticise . also most bikes [ to save money ] are made for people under 6 ft ,, so opinions on riding will always vary due to riding postures ..
@@RocketMan_Moto yes because it replaces the stock cats and header pipes. I know the 2021- ST has the headers welded to the cats now for euro 5 which means if you buy a seperate xpipe you will have to buy the pre 2021 header pipes as well making the cost similar
Speaking about the exhaust and the sound. I personally hate the exhaust tips that came stock. The sounds to me is just fine. I’ve ordered the predator pro exhaust slip-on’s, and the ever so important DB killer inserts from British Customs. Perhaps a DB killer mod is in order?

High torque nakeds are my favorite, if BMW made a 6cyl K1600 naked, I would love to have it!
Wish you all the best!
Thank you. And congratulations on being first🥳
@@RocketMan_Moto haha thank you
A most excellent machine. Not really heard a bad word about them.
And thanks for the reminder of the Algarvian roads. Love riding down there.
Bmw mitirsport colours? Hmm. Ich nicht kenne.
Happy travels 👍
All will be revealed in a couple of weeks😊
Enjoyed that - thanks. Your roads seem rather like ours in Tasmania. Lots of bends, up and downs. Moreover our police are well funded and very keen to prevent >110Km/h on the few boring bits. Perfect for our Speed Twins. The places we northerners end up!!!
I've been told before that the police in Australia/Tasmania can be very tough!
i'm an INDIAN viwer of your videos, thanks for this much detailed review, it helps to make more clear decission
Thanks for your comment. You won’t be disappointed with the Speed Twin👍😊
I have a 2020 Speed Twin, which I purchased a few weeks ago, just wondered do you have a continuous electrical "whine" from the throttle bodies, I can twist the throttle with the engine not running and the whine changes pitch. The dealer says they all do that?
Afaik, they all make the same noise. Mine does😊
@@RocketMan_Moto brilliant glad to know, as none of the reviews point that out. ride safe and many thanks, hopefully not too hot where you are 👍
No problem. It's been very hot here for the last 5-6 weeks. So hot that I haven't really been able to get out much on the Triumph or the Transalp :(
Well I think it suits you well and I am glad you are keeping it. (suits you, sir) As to BMW colours I think that most likely is the M spec red white blue... but I hope its the glorious shaded metallics of the mid 80s bikes ie the bronze, gun metal etc. All best 👍
All will be revealed in a couple of weeks (hopefully!)
Lovely motorcycle, can’t wait to see what the new paint scheme looks like!
I hope you'll approve... I think you will :)
Yes, I think Michelin Road 6s are the way to go
Very insightful video. I am curious if you ever ridden a z900rs? How would you compare it with this?
Thanks. I have ridden the Z900RS, but only very briefly. It's a fabulous machine that looks even better than the Speed Twin, imo. However, it's not quite as beefy and overall not as much fun to ride. I was very surprised when the Missenden Flyer bought one when he already had the Speed Twin.
I'm leaving for Portugal on Friday, hopefully I'll get to see your new paint job on the road :-)
Could well do, though I'm not expecting the bike to be ready until the beginning of May at the earliest. Enjoy your trip, it's nice and warm here at the moment, after a sketchy March/April so far.
@@RocketMan_Moto It was cold lol. Looking forward to seeing the new paint
Beautiful Bike. only 1 question. How manageable or possible it is fr an occasional 2 up touring. ?
In a word, hopeless. Ok, that's a bit unfair, but there are far better bikes out there for taking a pillion.
Congrats on the Bike. Beautiful!
Thank you. Looks even better (imo) now after the paint job :)
Very enjoyable video, as always👍
Thank you :)
I also went from Street Triple to a Speed Twin. The Speed does not handle as well but you can just cruise with it and add baggage.
Hi
I'm from India and has been hooked to your channel for the last 6-8 months, love your style of presentation, it's crisp, precise and very easy to understand. Kudos to you for your channel.
I think I prefer the look of the bike without it😊
I've never got better than 40 mpg. Mine is a 2020. Your doing great at 47
Maybe I’m not riding hard enough🤔
@@RocketMan_Moto must be the euro 5 emissions. I think they made some tweaks after 2020 to get it fully compliant.
Probably
I also own a Speed Twin. Prior to the Speed Twin I had a BMW F900XR. I have to say the build quality and overall engine /transmission smoothness, ST is head and shoulders above the BMW. The ST is a beautiful motorcycle with plenty of torc. The only thing I want to upgrade is the suspension. Other than that the Speed Twin is a great motorcycle that I will hold on to for a long time.
Completely agree. I did another video that you may have seen on upgrading the suspension.
Thanks, Scott. I have been trying to test the Z900RS for months, but the dealers down here can’t get a demonstrator😩
@@RocketMan_Moto No problem. Come out to San Diego, CA and you can ride mine free of charge! Or maybe try a rent a ride service if they’re available in your parts?
OK, I'll be there tomorrow morning. Thanks :)
Time to buy #2!!! It's tall af in comparison. Where'd you get that carbon fiber bit at the fake carb area?
See links in the description
I’ve only tried the 1200 Speed Triple… and it was FANTASTIC😳😍
Torn between this and an r9t. Do you have any experience with the bmw?
I rode a mate's R9T briefly - very nice, but quite a bit more expensive than the Speed Twin once you start adding the options (which I know I would have, lol)
This road is really close to where I live, have you tried the R9T yet? Would love to read the comparison..(I have the R9T).
Can’t get hold of a demonstrator, unfortunately
@@RocketMan_Moto well, if you come this way again we can swap bikes for a few miles?
Looks really nice but they always look quite small and I believe you're quite tall? How do you find it for size?
You’re right, but it hasn’t been a problem for me. I do like small bikes, though. I’ve had a Grom and a Monkey😊
Maybe think about purchasing the Triumph headlight bazel, as that looks really nice
Strangely, I actually dont like the grooves in it. The plastic bezel is being painted, though🤞
Gotta say, really like your honest opinions about triumphs motorcycles. Do you have any experience and opinions of the tiger 850 sport?
Thanks. I've done a review of the 900, if that's any use. Tbh, I found it a bit buzzy (vibrations) and ever so slightly dull, though to be fair, I'm not really into adventure bikes :)
@@RocketMan_Moto alright!. Ima give it a test ride. Ill give my feedback on my experience. Thanks man!
So is it red? I went for the speed two after the trident like you. But got the red one. Spectacular bike. Amazing in red
I do like the red, but it wouldn't really be a custom paint job :)
@@RocketMan_Moto true. Waiting for next upload then. Cheers
Could you please post link to the rear shocks you purchased from YSS please thx
See this video & description for more details of the suspension mods I have made: th-cam.com/video/_1TQh2_hA94/w-d-xo.html
I understand, although at 6’2 I can almost walk straight on to the bike from behind😊
Removing the catalisators, 3, will give you some more power and torque and the engine runs much smoother, the sound will get a little louder, have you considered that?
I have thought about it, but apparently it's not an easy job on the Euro 5 model
how is your custom paint job coming?
Complete! Reveal video coming hopefully next week, once this Saharan dust storm has gone :)
I agree that revving the engine beyond about 4500rpm is a bit pointless. It's almost like a diesel engine in that respect. And I like that :)
Is changing the front sprocket an easy job?
I need to give this a try. Thanks for the info😊
how did you get your motorcycle license? is it the Uk one?
French. I lived in Lille 30 years before coming to Portugal
If you're looking for a tyre for this bike - Continental raod attack 4 . It's just perfect. Got it on the speed twin myself.
Thanks!
Perfect bike🙏
@@RocketMan_Moto Fingers Crossed for you & i & plenty of other people too who are gagging for a Speed Twin Rs hehe? 😊🤞🏻👍🏻
I'd have one in a heartbeat!
Thanks, Michael. I was looking at the poster yellow RE Meteor last week... :)
@@RocketMan_Moto I was thinking the yellow from the speed triple 94R but the meteor yellow is very similar. I think it would be a very different look 😀👍
I would quite like it, but resale??
@@RocketMan_Moto I would do it if the bike was a keeper but I work in the paint trade and a mate of mine does paintwork on some British superbikes so it wouldn't be an issue if I wanted to go back to standard.
Great video hope you and Rocket Lady are doing well
Thank you, Leonard. We're fine, everything ok with you?
Under what circumstance does one get the t120 instead of speedtwin? pillion? better long distance?
The T120 is a ‘softer’ version of the Speed Twin: less power, more upright riding position…
Have you tried the Kawasaki z900rs by any chance? I am torn between that and the speed twin?
Not yet😊
@@RocketMan_Moto is it on your to do list by any chance? The extra power you crave might be found in the z900zr…
Difficult to get hold of one down here in the Algarve. The dealers don't have a demonstrator :(
Rocketman, you commented that the YSS shocks are set at 15mm lower than stock and yet your are 6’1’! Surprising, did you lower the yokes and slide the forks up? I just had all new Nitron suspension fitted and find the bike even taller! 5’8’ here 🙁. Bar reach is a bit much for the short arms too!
Yes, the lowered the forks slightly, I believe. All the work was done by the dealer before delivery, so I'm not too sure what they did, tbh.
@@RocketMan_Moto thanks for the feedback; a little job for me next week 👍
Have fun :)
I have a 2020 model and love it, bar the known issues of mediocre suspension and squeaky brakes. The 2022 upgrade tempts me, but I've invested in the fixes for mine already and I really don't like the new paint schemes.
I hear you. I have recently had mine repainted and upgraded the suspension. Videos available, if you're interested
@@RocketMan_Moto Yeah for sure. Keen for a look. I saw a video where a guy from Asia had painted his speed twin white. Looked really nice actually. Triumph are fast too conservatives on their factory paint schemes. No need to produce day Glo pink, but come on.
Well, they're offering a matt orange for 2023
Switching metzeler to Avon was the best upgrade on my triumph. It’s an air cooled thruxton though, totally different bike.
I will be putting different tyres on next time
Nice and detailed review! But I didn't get it with: think BMW?
Can’t remember what I said. This is quite an old video😊
I wonder if you’d be interested in the Thruxton RS? Seems to be what you want.
The Thruxton's riding position is too hard-core for me, I'm afraid :)
@@RocketMan_Moto That’s what I first thought as well but I’ve now noticed that the clipons are quite high up. Maybe they’re worth another look.
Have you tried to bring the weight down? Exhaust, catless, battery....
Thinking of changing the exhaust and the battery😊
You're going to paint a pair of horizontal cylinders on the side of the bike? Odd...
😂
It's gonna be blue like the Street Twin 22 model, no?
Could be :)
I have taken passengers but it’s a small bike and not great for distances two up
Levelling the tank so it’s not drooping at the front would improve its looks enormously
Doesn't bother me, but I imagine raising it would be fairly simple
I think this was an excellent choice of bike. But I'll be sticking with my 1670cc 2-valve-per-head air-cooled V-twin Yamaha MT-01; 110 ft/lb of torque at 3,750 rpm.
That ADV350 is really wide.
Positively fat, lol
Motorcycles without fairings and windshields are never fun over 60 mph/100 kph. Am I wrong?
No
What do you do during the run-in?
Keep it below 4000rpm, but there’s so much torque, I very rarely take it above that anyway, even now
@@RocketMan_Moto For how long?
Just so you know, I’m following your footsteps.
I’m turning in my Trident for a Speed Twin this week.
The main reason for me is the many upcoming problems with the Trident.
Many Trident owners in Thailand are getting the same problems starting at 6000km.
The problems are oil leaks, engine shutdown during deceleration, etc.
I’m afraid it would happen to me in the future and I also like the looks and the sound of the Speed Twin.
I sold my Trident in part because of the problems that I read about. Speed Twin run-in is 1000km😊
“Think BMW”. Gloss black with a double white stripe around each side of the tank? Like the R18 first edition and all ancient BMWs?
Mmm, getting warmer... ;)

good one ,, please no grey or black ;;; i think if i started biking again i would have one of these ,; punchy mid range , sit up position and good looks ,. i hope people will realise that these are your views on your bike in your time and and just enjoy the video rather than criticise . also most bikes [ to save money ] are made for people under 6 ft ,, so opinions on riding will always vary due to riding postures ..
Agreed. Some people forget these videos are just my personal opinion👍😊
I too don't like super loud bikes. Some people think a bike sounds good just because it's loud. That's stupid.
Agreed
If you want to lose 15kg put in a tec 2-1 exhaust. It would be too loud for you though
Is it compatible with the 2022 ST, though?
@@RocketMan_Moto yes because it replaces the stock cats and header pipes. I know the 2021- ST has the headers welded to the cats now for euro 5 which means if you buy a seperate xpipe you will have to buy the pre 2021 header pipes as well making the cost similar
It's a zippy, zippy thing! I ride the southern California freeways. 80-90 most of the way. It likes to go fast.
Certainly does👍😊
Didn't see your previous video but I agree. The honda is terribly dull! And anyone who buys it is too, just science! They are so many better options

The exhausts on the 2022+ look ok, even though I’d prefer all silver
