- Lau Pa Sat is a popular tourist destination, known for its beautiful architecture, lively atmosphere, and wide variety of food stalls. The market is home about 80 food stalls selling a variety of local and international cuisine, including satay, chicken rice, laksa, and chilli crab. Come at night for Singapore's largest open-air Satay Street, Lau Pa Sat is home to ten satay carts where people can enjoy true alfresco dining under the stars.
Lau Pa Sat, also known as Telok Ayer Market, is located in a Victorian-style cast iron market building located in the heart of Singapore's Central Area. It was first built in 1824 as a fish market on the waterfront, and has been rebuilt and relocated several times over the years. The current building was constructed in 1894, and was recognized as a national monument in 1973.

That is quite a nice hawker center! I love all the variety of choices it has to offer.
Chris, you mention that this began as the first fish market. It's now a few blocks from the ocean but I'm guessing back in the 1820s it was right on the ocean. I don't know if you've mentioned it before but Singapore has a rather aggressive land reclamation project where they are reclaiming land from the sea. In fact, Raffles Hotel is on Beach Street which is a few blocks from the ocean. It's called "Beach Street" because it was actually along an ocean beach.
I'll be there in a couple weeks. I can't wait. It's been almost 4 years.
Great point Bill!
Hi Chris. Thanks for the video. They did a great job renovating the place. So many places to try different cuisines. Satay Street reminds me of the yakitori places in Japan. Love the aroma of grilled meat in the air. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Grilled meat on a stick is always good! 😀
Thanks
Cant wait to revisit!
I'm looking forward to trying Satay Street!
Mmm
Milo was my favorite drink growing up in Indonesia
Mmmm
When were you there ? I was there earlier ..imagine bumping into you 😮😊
This was filmed earlier this year in April
Love the way you describe Turkish food on "those rotating spinny things"😂
My favorite city! Awesome food, but also a lot of things to do for tourists. I'm surprised at how many tourist sights they have on that little island. It's 1/2 the size of Kauai.🤔
Hah. And indeed.. Singapore is really dense with attractions!
I'm about to go there 😂 Lau Pa Sat 😅
Nice!
What other digital payments methods are supported at Lau Pa Sat? Besides the top up card with cash method you mentioned
Pretty sure i used my Visa card to pay
@@YellowProductions Awesome! that’s great to know. Planning to checkout Lau Pa Sat on day 1 of my upcoming SG trip 😊
💜💜💜👋😊
The pass time of Singapore is to go out to eat.
