- Industry exclusive Big Boy sounds are available in SoundTraxx Tsunami2 TSU-Big Steam decoders! This decoder features a true UP Big Boy recording. Previously this sound file was only offered in Athearn factory installed decoders, but now you can get it in our aftermarket TSU-Big Steam Decoder. When we had access to the 4014 we recorded the exhaust chuff, whistle, air compressor, bell, feed water pumps and brakes. dynamo,
The TSU-Big Steam decoder is available in 3 board formats: TSU-1100, TSU-2200, and TSU-21PNEM8.
In this decoder you will also get all of the features that you know and love from our Tsunami2 decoder line including: Reactive Dynamic Digital Exhaust, Functioning locomotive and train brakes, injectors, power reverse, and firebox flicker. We also offer a large selection of selectable sound effects including: bells (12), Whistles (90+), couplers, dynamos and more!
These decoders include an optional capacitor or can be wired to a CurrentKeeper (P.N. 810140 or 810160) to maintain performance over dirty track and switches.

Not the wright whistle for the 4014....you guys have the wright sounds in athearn big boy ...love the crew talk it has too ..
The Big Steam has multiple whistle selections including all of those available on the Athearn Big Boy.

You select your whistle by changing CV 120. You can see a full list of your options in our Tsunami2 Steam-2 Sound Selection Reference. This document can be found in the manuals section of our website: soundtraxx.com/manuals/tsunami2-digital-sound-decoder
A feedwater (heater) doesn't pressurize incoming tender water, it pre-heats it for more efficiency.
The feedwater system does both. The water has to be pressurized to enter the boiler through the check valve. If the water is at a lower pressure than the boiler, the it will not enter.
The feedwater system then sends the water up into the smokebox (in many locos) to be pre-heated. Then after flowing through the boiler, the dry pipe the flows back through the boiler as a super-heater to heat the dry steam more to build the pressure up higher before entering the cylinders.

Will this install in the kato bIg boy N scale just released last month or only HO?
This install is for the HO version. We have not yet done the installation on the Kato N-Scale model at this time. However, you can order it with the SoundTraxx Tsunami2 factory-installed coming in the fall. This will be a TSU-1100 for Big Steam, 884011 But all the settings could be mimicked in your model with the TSU-1100 for Big Steam, or in the Kato Factory-Installed decoder. I hope this helps..
