Thanks for this review. This was my first ever video game in my life, I was a kid at the time. I never finished it because I was stuck on the Sudoku part.. from what I remember.
Oh Hi Michael, good to have you back! Ah yes Chaos Break, I love those obscure horror games! And than I ran out of ammo in the mittle of a boss fight (that in the electro-spider corridors)! And the "s" in the name of the female hero got lost in translation. Her name was meant to be Mitsuki!
Michael's Retro Game Reviews Sure is! Do you plan on reviewing other obscure horror games, such as Hellnight or The Note? Would really like to see that. You are making really superb reviews!
I thought I was the only person who knew about this game, but then again, you reviewing games like these is the reason why I am subscribed to you. Check out Koudelka and/or T.R.A.G. (Hard Edge in Japan) if you haven't already. Koudelka is a survial horror / jrpg hybrid. Especially check out Hard Edge since it is very similar to this game. I could name many games like this on Cd based sega consoles but you probably know most of them since you mainly are I believe a sega guy like me.
That moment when you learnt one of your most hated childhood games was not only rare, but surprisingly easy if you weren't 7 or 8 at the height of the PS1 era.
The puzzles in this game were amazing when I played it as a kid. The 6-number sudoku was a pain in the ass to solve, but after solving it I got so excited I had to write the passcode on paper and show it to my friend who also was playing this game. The best one had to be when you had to carry the alien specimen to the operation room and then extract its heart for the cure. But I always got the worst ending, where I went on the roof and was shot on-the-spot and never figured out what I was doing wrong
Really enjoyed this one. I can enjoy bad games like I enjoy bad movies. As long as there is something "so bad its good" in it and not just "its just really really bad" I can enjoy it. Seems Chaos Break fits the bill. Great job man keep it up!
Due somewhere else having some sound effect and music of this, I was reminded of this game and went to check what I can find -also remembered "as young and stupid" -ended up buying this game -even without owning the console x'D -did manage to acquire PS2 later on and even more so later the actual PS1 to play it with, tho my (at the times) pitfalls with English kept me from managing trough even the most basic passwords x'DD Also can connect on the flustration of getting stuck (tho again, my understanding of English to blame mostly) -on Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, I was kept from finishing it for almost half a decade -and it was roughly 5 minutes left of the game x. x
GRUSS Newton thank you ;) i have a review of resident evil deadly silence (NDS) in the works for Halloween. as for xmass i do a game in mind but i'll keep it under wraps for now
David Steck there is an iso of this game's disc imagine floating out there in the internet, but for some reason the audio is always screwed up when you play it:( yep the only way to play this is to have the game disc.
+Michael's Retro Game Reviews Screwed up how? I just recently tried this in ePSXe 2.0 and it seemed fine to me. All the voices were clear, the effects seemed to match the action, etc. I haven't played through the whole game, I only played to the point where you unlock level 2, but I didn't notice any problems with it. In fact, and I know this will be considered blasphemy, I like it better than Resident Evil. In RE, I always hated the static camera angles and the tank-like controls. While the camera in Chaos Break isn't perfect, I find it much easier to see what I'm doing. I'll admit that having the controls switch when you switch the camera view can be a little annoying at times, but I'll still take it over trying to "drive" your character in the RE games. I mean, if your RE character is facing the screen, all the controls are reversed, left turns to the right, forward makes them come toward the screen, etc. It may make sense logically, but in actual practice, it's disorienting and makes it hard to get away from enemies in a hurry. Plus there's the little stuff, like needing to stop and aim in RE, rather than just being able to press a single button to shoot or the completely pointless and annoying unskippable door animations.
Hey now, I can forgive martian gothic for it's shortcomings considering the company closed doors basically before the game was finished and it was just sent out as it was. It's still fully playable and beatable and offered a unique take on the genre without being an outright resi clone!
Thank you for the review Michael :) Just one question, Have you completed this game? I can't find a walkthrough anywhere and I'm stuck... I have Rick and I collected an OS Disc, I need to use it on one of the terminals (I think) but can't figure what to do. Thanks!
***** i'll do my best to put out more reviews more often. i would of had this review finished sometime in august if it wasn't for moving into my new home. with luck i would have another review ready in time for Halloween :D
I like how this game there is low loading times, and nice graphics, Resident Evil takes 6 hours to beat because 40 minutes of the game are loading times where all you see is door being open. I personally think this is a classic hidden gem.
This kinda reminds me of Hard Edge. It wasn't an amazing game but I had a lot of fun with it. And it had 4 playable characters. It was a Sunsoft game, can't go wrong with Sunsoft.
It's a shame this game has gone up in price so considerably, because this seems worth it to at least check out or own if you love survival horror games in general.
Funny thing is there was another awful RE clone that came out around the same time as Chaos Break Countdown Vampire but unlike CB it never came out on PAL.
i see what you mean :D out of the RE clones i would have to go with Alone In The Dark the new nightmare lol which is ironic considering resident evil and all it's clones were inspired by the original AITD :)
sorry bruh, but 6 to 8 hours for the veterans to complete original Resident Evil? All 3 of the original Resident Evil's can be beaten in under 2 hours on a normal run, then when you get the rocket launcher for completing the game under 3 hours, you can just breeze thru in under an hour. My best time with the rocket launcher is 59 minutes, but without I did beat it in around one hour and 55 minutes. I think Re4 and 5 are also possible to beat in under 4 hours... Just normally playing, hurrying sure, but not glitching or anything.
Michael, you are too pure for this world... I know you kinda gave up on TH-cam but man do I miss your reviews
Great Review, made me order the game! I love some old-skool survival horror so it sounds right up my street!
Krishan Pandya AWESOME! :D i hope you enjoy you copy
good to have you back! great review, i must say i have never heard of this 1 myself so it was a fun watch :)
Adam Michael it's great to be back too :D and hopefully I'll have another review ready in time for my favorite holiday.. Halloween
Thanks for this review. This was my first ever video game in my life, I was a kid at the time. I never finished it because I was stuck on the Sudoku part.. from what I remember.
Funny thing is. Starting lock and loaded with an mini-arsenal and running out of ammo in a prolonged military mission is ironically realistic
I love your reviews, mate :) Especially when you talk about obscure games like this. I'm already waiting for the next one :D
Aww Yeaa thanks dude. hopefully i should be able to get another review done in time for Halloween :)
awsome :D I'll be looking foward to it

OniOniOni hehe i imagine a lot of thing got lost with this game in it's EU localisation

Great video. The game looks cheesy but fun. Thanks for letting us know about it. Keep up with the good work.
Thanks Michael, another awesome review on a game I had never heard off. Looks interesting- keep up the good work mate! :)
James Hood Thank you and will do ;)
Really enjoyed this one. I can enjoy bad games like I enjoy bad movies. As long as there is something "so bad its good" in it and not just "its just really really bad" I can enjoy it. Seems Chaos Break fits the bill. Great job man keep it up!
Gamingbeast82 what sold me this bad game was your basically playing as a member of the clean up crew for the bad guy :D LOL thanks bud ;)
How can you save in this game? Thank you

Really enjoyed this one! Any plans for Halloween or Xmas this year?
GRUSS Newton thank you ;) i have a review of resident evil deadly silence (NDS) in the works for Halloween. as for xmass i do a game in mind but i'll keep it under wraps for now
Great video - as always!
Marc Dachtler thank you
Great insight on this game. I never seen this game before wish I could play it
David Steck there is an iso of this game's disc imagine floating out there in the internet, but for some reason the audio is always screwed up when you play it:( yep the only way to play this is to have the game disc.
Look on ebay.de! It´s quit cheap and the english (Pal) version is included!

davidhass3lh0ff !! What's the tune @ outro ..?
The acoustic sounds incredible !!!
Cheers
Have you played Quake by id software? It is on the saturn and the N64 but the best experience is probably the aboriginal PC version.
Your videos are excellent!
I found the ISO in seconds ;)
Will the European game work in an american console? I heard this game was only released in Europe and Japan.
Hey now, I can forgive martian gothic for it's shortcomings considering the company closed doors basically before the game was finished and it was just sent out as it was. It's still fully playable and beatable and offered a unique take on the genre without being an outright resi clone!

Come on Michael, lets have more reviews. 2 months without is a long time :)
***** i'll do my best to put out more reviews more often. i would of had this review finished sometime in august if it wasn't for moving into my new home. with luck i would have another review ready in time for Halloween :D
I remember I didn't enjoy the game back then. didn't help that i was a teenager hooked on fear effect series.
Thank u. Im gonna give it a chance
I would totally give this a whirl if it wasn't so expensive!

resident evil can be beaten in under 3 hours
+MikeG82 if you know how is faster.
Great video
***** thank you
Now I want this game... But sadly it's over $100 on eBay.
This game does look awesome. They aren't even trying to hide the fact they copied Jill's look.
I had this game when I was little
This kinda reminds me of Hard Edge. It wasn't an amazing game but I had a lot of fun with it. And it had 4 playable characters.
It was a Sunsoft game, can't go wrong with Sunsoft.
***** i've just watched a few vids on hard edge and it looks like a lot of fun :)
Michael's Retro Game Reviews
It's a fun game but as its name says...it's hard.
***** is the game also... edgy?
Michael's Retro Game Reviews
Of course!
It's a shame this game has gone up in price so considerably, because this seems worth it to at least check out or own if you love survival horror games in general.
Viddy well my little droogies, viddy well.
Square Enix would own this franchise at this point
Funny thing is there was another awful RE clone that came out around the same time as Chaos Break Countdown Vampire but unlike CB it never came out on PAL.
Dino Crisis 2 is my favorite in this "genre." :)
Penny Filkins my favorite in this genera has to be resident evil, but i can go for a round of dino crisis 2 anytime ;)
Michael's Retro Game Reviews
I just meant out of the RE clones, lol. But RE2 is my favorite. :)
i see what you mean :D out of the RE clones i would have to go with Alone In The Dark the new nightmare lol which is ironic considering resident evil and all it's clones were inspired by the original AITD :)
FFFFFFUCKING FINALLY I FOUND THIS GAME XD thank you!

Great game.
Worsers not a word dude 😆
