The problem is that the finished product is mostly unlistenable since he dropped producers. His 90's stuff was pristine as far as recording quality. The 80's stuff that actually had some catchy vocal tunes he's altogether abandoned live in lieu of the same tired few.

Yngwie's honesty is fresh air in an industry of friendly backstabbers. He is a soloist and like Zappa, wants things done his way. Nothing wrong with that. At least he is not pretending like 90% of classic rock / metal bands. Long live Malmsteen, he MADE IT and escaped the hellhole. MORE IS MORE :)

Press guy: "What's your favorite Blackmore moment? . . . Did Deep Purple ever approach you?"
Yngwie: "Okay, this is gonna be a long answer."
Press guy: "Good" (thankful he'll have something to write about that isn't in a million previous Yngwie interviews)
Yngwie: Doesn't answer either question and goes into the same long-winded story he's told in countless interviews, including his left-handed compliments to the guitar players of the time when he was a kid.
Nothing exemplifies the need for the expression "less is more" more than the man who apparently is incapable of comprehending it.

I think his last album (Parabellum) is nearly a masterpiece. He is right saying he is in the best shape ever - just listen to the sweeps in God Particle. Regarding the production, I got used to it and can't complain. The only thing I would change in the last album is the singing - either hire someone or make an album fully instrumental. Then he has the keyboard player who can sing on tour.

Yngwie is the king of rock 👑👑👑 for he took it to another level, daring to sound different when nobody else did, opening the door for a new era. He had to take a lot of shit for that. But being fair, he's not only super fast and precise in his technique, but also, to me much more importantly, has beautiful feel for melody and harmony which he can utilize in improvisation. He had a significant impact on the history of modern music and has revolutionized the way we play lead guitars today.
That all said, with almost any instrument other than guitar, there's absolutely no question that playing it means knowing multiple scales. I totally don't get why guitarists have the arrogance to think they're great when really they're just lazy to develop feeling for anything but minor pentatonic in unaltered form with very limited rhythmic originality, and how a strange fan base of old boomer farts and their taste-amputated descendants think this is how guitar must sound like.
Him raising the bar significantly when I was still a kid gave me complexes for a while but ultimately kept me going. Once I knew how to properly play, it turned out a one day journey to get on top of his style. Not at the same speed and precision - that takes a lot specialized practice, but for getting the hang of his improvisation, finally settling the score. because knowing how to get onto that road it became apparent to me that I had outgrown him long already. I could never imagine limiting myself stylistically, just as I would never wear a crucifix (as that to me stands for a fascistic regime burning anyone opposing it at the stake, promoting slavery and letting Hitler enter the parliament, and for the new Nazi conspiracy aligned with US signal intelligence, that growing up with a foreign background in Germany has repeatedly spat in my face while telling me it's raining). I'll certainly have to wear an inverted one in case I ever get to battle Malmsteen IRL - it'd be good contrast.
MORE IS MORE FOLKS, SUPPORT ME AND HYPE MY CHANNEL AND DON'T MAKE TH-cam A FASCIST SHITHOLE . For reward, gain access to my Free and Open Source Web-App that can show and identify all scales of relevance to the primordial soup blobbing out on this dirtball!

Could be said for most pro guitarists i.e. Clapton, Knopfler, on and on. His licks are mostly uniquely classically based and don't blend into the sea of pentatonic blues that most other players mimic. So they stand out more when he repeats.

He will never admit it but Blackmore was his idol until around 1985-86. He copied Blackmore's looks, playing technique, attitude, relations with bandmates, etc. He was obsessed with Purple and Rainbow and it's no coincidence that he worked with Bonnet and Turner. I love Yngwie but he's not being honest, sorry.

He can say what ever he wants, but in the end he really needs to ask proper singers to sing on his records. He can play, he can compose, even produce, although the last 3 albums were terrible, but he can’t sing. Not more than every Joe in some karaoke bar. So for a love of god Yngwie, hire a singer. Then we can maybe buy your albums again.

He point blank said "call it whatever you want I've always rolled that way" after stating he would not accept the Graham Bonnet gig unless they got rid of Clive Burr for the Alice Cooper drummer that played double bass. He also remembered that Clive Burr was a sweet guy just not right for the gig. Yngwie could have opted not to go into all that detail to appear another way. He was honest instead. I respect that and I would simply call him an artist that knows what he wants and will not compromise his vision.
