    Andy - really fantastic - and I like the way you summarized at the end that the playable loft range for an Average Golfer swing speed caps the last club at 6-iron for the Stealth - i.e. because the 5-iron was 'only' getting to 65-peak-height. It thus raises the question, and why I commented on the last video about playable lofts, on WHY manufacturers are doing this? What they end up doing is selling 6,5&4 irons, to Average golfers, in lofts they can't play and yet rob them of playable lofts on the other end. I think this is going to end next club cycle - it's just stupid at this point

  • @nongmar6340

    Your summary was spot on; for your swing, don't go past the 6 iron in the Stealth (ran out of ball speed). Comparing the images at 5:17 and 5:37 demonstrated this brilliantly.

    There is no denying that the TM designers have improved the look of their GI Iron Sets, previous versions have been pretty naff. But I would be worried at those descent angles and whether I could get the ball to stop on the Green. Having a 7 Iron that goes 170yards in the air is pointless if you can't hold the Green when it lands

    Sometimes it seems as if companies are using deception by just making their clubs a stronger loft, the solution would be to put the loft on each club instead of calling them a 7 iron or a 9 iron, then you could see which clubs actually perform better, this practice has got way out of control over the last few years IMO.

    • @jgallone
      @jgallone 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've been just getting back into golf after several years, using my 20+ year old clubs. I thought I had lost all of my strength after hearing how far people are hitting their irons. Wasn't until I started looking at the specs that I realized that my old iron lofts were about a club and a half weaker than many of today's clubs. For example, my 7 iron is a 34 degree, which is more lofted than the stealth 8 iron! Suddenly my 150yd 7 iron distance doesn't feel so bad.
      So, yeah I agree that the number designation isn't all that useful much of the time.

    Thanks for a good video! It seems loft overrides technology a regards distance, or at least the deciding factor. You mention that the lofts of the stealth irons are too widely spaced. Isn’t it advantageous for mid to high handicappers to have more space between their clubs than the standard 4 degrees to prevent bunching? Keep up the good work!

    Only issue I’ve seen with the Stealth is a few videos highlighting the problem that once and awhile the tech in the Stealth causes them to get too hot and you misjudge distanced, but TM has done about as good of a job as you can do at avoiding this for a hot club like this.
    If I’m a 10 Under Handicap I’m going with the P790 as I think they have more control to learn addressing the ball properly and taking your game to the next level to a fully forged club, but if I’m a 10+ Handicap it’s the Stealth all day and honestly you’d be hard pressed to find a better hot club on the market like it right now.
    I also worry a little about the long term durability of the Stealth as those glued in carbon inserts might not last the test of time, but outside of that for the price the Stealth Irons are as good as you’re going to get for a mid-handicapper set of irons.

    Great video Andy! It’s also worth mentioning that if you’re a decent ball striker that struggles to get any distance compared to average golfers, it’s a safer bet to go with Stealth. I think you’ll rarely hit one so perfect that it’ll go longer/hotter than normal and you may end up hitting too far. TM did a good job of making Game Improvement irons look darn good.

    Not sure I agree with the idea that the Stealth looks as good as the P790 at address. The top line of the Stealth is noticeably thicker and it gives the appearance of lot more off set. Overall the Stealth whilst a good looking iron, is not as good as the P790.
    As for performance, there is a 2.5 degree loft difference between P790 and Stealth which is roughly 2/3rd of a club so I would expect P790 to carry 7-9 yards less, spin 400-600 rpm more which is what, as Andy says in the video, the averages show. My one concern on the averages is the descent angle of the 5i Stealth,. That is not stopping on a green but how many people who choose the Stealth iron will carry the 5i?

  • @chrishartney
    @chrishartney 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Interesting that you only achieve 12 yards more carry between the 5 irons and the 7 irons. This raises the question of where a 6 iron fits for you? I suspect that you hit a 6 iron a very similar distance to your 5 iron, which suggests that you might be better of hitting a hybrid or a 7 wood, instead of a 5 iron.

    I was quick enough to moan about wait time mainly out of frustration I've had mine about 4 weeks now and it was worth the wait they have that feel that the times you hit them pure it feels like you've completely missed the ball , but I have to say as we're always told get custom fitted because mine have a different size grip they're 2 degrees flat and wow what a difference to shot shape and accuracy can't really comment on distance as I always swing within myself so as not to aggravate old shoulder injury but they're doing what l paid for putting a smile on my face.

    This was a great review. It was concise, crisp and addressed the core comparison indicators. However, I would love to see a review that compares the shot shaping ability as well. I say this because this plethora of modern game-improvement irons tend to focus on straight distances and spins. Out on the narrow courses, especially one with thick bushes and trees. the ability of irons to shape shots becomes critical. And somehow, most of these new game-improvement irons tend to be draw-biased. I use rogue irons, which for the world of me, i just can't fade or slice.

    I own the ping 425 irons and I feel like I can't really tell the difference between irons in this mid handicap genre of clubs. I tried the PXG 0221's and both felt good. I think the idea of getting new clubs is the hope your game and comfort will be better but at the end of the day, nothing really changes. It's fun to see you compare all these expensive clubs to cheaper clubs and the results are the same more or less. I was watching Bubbie from GG Golf and he bought some new "expensive" irons to replace his 10 year old Mizuno's. The results on his trackman? The old clubs preformed better with distance with the same accuracy as the new ones. LOL!! I guess I'm planning on keeping these pings for a decade. Keep up the great videos sir.
    EDIT: I think if people dropped their egos, they all would be using clubs like the stealth over the 790's. My friend who's close to a scratch golfer traded his player clubs in for "game improvement" irons and took about 2-3 strokes off his game. Why are people using clubs that make the game harder?

      I agree - especially in few long irons. What players clubs did your mate have out of curiosity?

      @@stuboy13 Not sure the model but they were Callaways and he bought Cobra Radspeed's.

    Do you know whether there will be a new P790 in 2023?

    The difference in cost is due to perception and demand. Price is only indirectly related to the club itself.

    Nice review. I was wondering how the Sim2Max compares to the Stealth. 7 iron loft about the same and a bit cheaper than the Stealth.

    With a 43 degree PW I’ll need 2 gap wedges! Ridiculous lofts!

    Great review, as usual. Looks clear to me: no benefit in spending more money.

    If you want distance go with the Stealth. If you want to learn shots, and gain control P790…

    Descent angle is much better with the P790. The Stealth had a 36.5 descent angle with the 5 iron and lower spin which is not playable coming into greens.

    Thanks for a good video. I bought these clubs (Taylormade Stealth) 4 iron through LW to replace my clubs which I have been playing since they came out in 1990's (Taylormade Burner Bubble OS) 3 iron through LW. I have been very good with the Bubble irons so I am curious to see if it helps improve my game. I used to hit 3 iron close to 300 yards when I first got em but now I cant reach 250 with it. Im hoping this helps me get more distance. What do you think?

      You did not hit a 3 iron 300 yards, please specify your actual distance

    The reality is these clubs are identical in performance. That's it. If you prefer one for looks/sound or the other for price that's personal preference but loft for loft there is no difference here. It's the dirty little secret in golf. Once you equalize lofts, there's very little difference between clubs.
