Sole bend as insole, just to make it really difficult! But then, belly leather is too soft.
I too use sole bends for my insoles.

instead of gluing two layers of the leather insoles then carving off a layer to make a ridge to sew into. wouldnt it be easier to glue a strip of leather on to one layer its basically acting as the gemming.
