Great review with much detail. However, you did not mention the fact that the Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID currently lacks a backlit (self-illumination), which is a much for some people who like to work in a dark environment in order to align our fingers at first. That''s why I purchased the Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID only for the Touch ID (mounted vertically next to the desk's leg) and I use the backlit Perrix keyboard from Germany with my Mac Mini M1, the version of the Perixx keyboard called PERIBOARD-429 ES with the Spanish ISO layout. It is marketed for Windows but works perfectly with macOS. Thank you for your great review. I am not the only person who purchased the Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID only for the Touch ID. I find a growing number of articles and videos about this, at list until Apple sells a standalone Touch ID.
Another thing that; the new era of authentication will be on PASSKEYS instead of PASSWORDS. That keyboard’s Touch ID is not only a finger print but it also converts Mac Mini (M series) computers to the new generation computers which have ability to be used for PASWORDLESS accounts such as Google Advanced Protection Program and so on…
The adding of fingerprint is a nightmare. I just received my keyboard with Touch ID today and tried to add the finger print. Even after I tried more than one hundred times of two-time-quick-press of the power button, there was no chance to add the fingerprint. By the way, my computer is a Mac mini M2.
If you work using multiple screens, mouse 100%, the trackpad is much slower and getting the cursor to the other screen it's literally a drag, not to mention the mouse is much cheaper. This is coming from my personal experience using both.
That works too! I tend not to wear my watch when I am on my computer for multiple hours because I can't stand the wristband. But absolutely, the unlock via Apple Watch is super helpful.
*DO NOT TRUST A THING THIS MAN SAYS* I could overlook the fact that APPLE PAID YOU TO MAKE THIS VIDEO, if you hadn't been so DECEPTIVE about the loudness of the keys. You do this for money. You do it enough that there's no way you're just completely ignorant on how to record; so when you put the mic closer to the older keyboard during a loudness comparison, you're aware that it will make the older one seem louder. Was there not a big enough difference when you were talking? I noticed that you tapped the keys on the older one much harder than the new one, which you barely touched, while speaking. If you'll use deceptive audio tricks to deceive your audience about that, you'll lie about anything and pull other tricks too.
Interesting comment… never had someone with this harsh a reaction. I have never received money from Apple in my life and I have purchased both of these keyboards with my own money. Not sure where you think you get your information from on that. In regards to key loudness: I may be speaking about a broader experience with the keyboards and not just the one time experience that you see in this video. Aside from this: I do not think that the loudness of the keys should be the main differentiating factor when buying any of these two keyboards. I do hope you have a wonderful day and can relax a bit on the assumptions you make about others.
@@llj9665 no, you have to pay slightly more attention than someone speaking with proper diction. The vowels and lazy and the wrong shape. Can he be understood - sure! Easily? No. It would help him a lot if he’s intent on being a TH-camr to get elocution lessons. He has a flat nasal voice. And it’s not the best.

It's a real shame Apple didn't make this keyboard backlit
That could have been neat.
IKR i keep questioning myself, do i have to buy logitech mx or this magic keyboard, damn you apple :((
logitech is backlit and also costs less, i love it @@chyndevi
I don’t see it, backlit on wireless devices are kind dumb and I don’t look to my keyboards to type since I was 12 years old so doesn’t bother me
Also, worth noting the new Magic Keyboard also has a dictation key. This along with the fingerprint sensor was enough for me to upgrade.
That's true. Though, I am sure this could have been achieved by setting up a keyboard shortcut as well.
Great point that 'same old same old' is a good thing with keyboards.
Indeed!
Are your "shift" buttons in the old model swapped?
Very helpful thank you
Glad my video was helpful. Thank you.

does the new keyboard give the ability to go into MBAir sleep mode when working with an external monitor? (just like regular closing MacAIR?)
Love this keyboard. Cannot imagine it without the ID sensor.
I am the same way - to this day! I do not want to miss Touch ID 👍.
I would really like Apple to build a separate finger print reader key that one could plug onto mechanical keyboards
That's not happening. The whole digital enclave and all that.
It might blows your mind but you can unlock your MacBook Pro by having the Apple Watch nearby.
Sure when it actually works. I have the M1 Mac mini and unlocking it with my Apple Watch is hit or miss and I have to series 7.
@@PlymouthmusicschoolIt hasn't worked for me once. Only says “unlocking with Apple Watch”, but nothing happens.

That's very true and makes this keyboard even more valuable.
That's the main reason I just bought it. Touch ID for passkeys is priceless.
Does the touch id work with M1 and M2 ipar pros?
Dude, it only works with the M series of Mac.
I have a MacBook about 2015. Will the Touch ID on the magic keyboard work with my old mac? Or does it only work with macbooks with Touch ID?
Only works with MacBooks with the M1 chip and higher, so no it will not work with your 2015 MacBook
how does your new keyboard one look now? is it yellowed?
No, I can't see any discoloration. Still delighted with it and use it every day.
Any idea if this feels the same with Macbook Air M2’s keyboard? I looove my Air M2 keyboard but I’m considering buying a wireless one.
I have the M1 MacBook Pro 16" and I do not think it's massively different. I like to type on both. If it's same with M2 Air - I don't know 🙈.
@@ChrisSpiegl Thanks for the insight!

To add fingerprints you go into the System Settings of macOS…not some strange "quick two time pressing"… it's all in the System Settings app.
Just create a shortcut, and boom, Your upgrade is successful 🥰.
space button does not work on sides have to press middle of the space button in order for it to work can't stand it
