  • In this video, you will get detailed step-by-step instructions on how to split a barrel and how to use those barrels to build a raised garden bed. The details on this build are heavy and we are confident that anyone could build this build. Raised beds are a fantastic way to do gardening. With a raised bed you are not having to bend down to plant and harvest crops.

🙋🏻‍♂️ Liked your design. But not necessary to use pressure treated post legs.
I used single barrel planters, having regular landscape posts ( NOT TREATED )⚠️⚠️
On post bottoms, I used 64oz. Juice containers which fit just right, therefore not touching ground. Yep, water gets in there, but just drill small drain holes 1/2” or so from bottom will allow for drainage. Drilled 1/4” drainage holes along the bottom. I still didn’t like plastic touching dirt, so I placed gardening weed cloth inside, which helped in keeping soil from escaping thru drainage holes.
But I liked 🫵🏻 design for joining 2 barrels and will use it. May use entirely 2x4 boards all the way around, since I’m only removing 1/3 of the barrel length. By doing so, it makes it deeper and better for growing vegetables. Now 6” off bottom of legs, I put a 2x4 cross brace on end legs, then place 2x4 boards upon these braces for storage below planters. Nice job but a tip lot of these barrels already have a half line when they make them they put 2 half’s together

Correct, and then you cut through the bung hole. Nothing wrong with that, but rather than glue them back in. I set up 90 deg. from the natural line. I thought I said that in the video, but that was a while ago.
