Yup, a switch hitter can hit both right and left handed.

And, to clarify, a switch hitter must choose which side to hit from each at bat. He can hit right-handed the first time he comes up, and left the second time he comes to the plate. But he can't change during an at bat.

Also, switch pitchers are a thing, but they're VERY VERY rare. So rare that it wasn't until 2008 that a switch-hitter came up to bat against a switch-pitcher. Chaos ensued: th-cam.com/video/dzViy3ZsS0E/w-d-xo.html

Usually, your biggest "power hitters" are big guys who aren't usually very fast. They usually bat 3rd or 4th in the batting order. You'd generally have faster guys who are good at getting on base ahead of the power hitter, so when he comes up he can drive them home with a big hit. The bigger, slower guys play a position like 1st base because there isn't much ground to cover on defense, and also he's a bigger target to throw to. Or, bigger, slower, powerful hitters might not play in the field at all and are exclusively a designated hitter.

Switch hitting is beneficial because some pitchers are extremely good against certain handed batters. So if you can switch you're a benefit to your team because you're now harder to get out. also if you're a great hitter but suck at running you usually get moved to a part of the lineup later like 6, 7, 8, 9th so you'll be hitting with others on base more often. Fast good hitters usually bat 1, 2nd, or 3rd because you want them on base early to run and steal bases so that your slower power hitters can drive them in with doubles and hits.

If you start falling embrace your fate. Trying to stay up makes it look even funnier. It's so much worse than just taking the dive with dignity 😂

The guys at 4:52 and 6:52 tripped over a "bullpen" pitching mound, used for pitchers to warm-up before coming into the game. Both were in San Francisco. I didn't realize any of the modern ballparks had exposed bullpens in foul territory, which were common in the multipurpose baseball-and-football stadiums built in the 1960s and 1970s. They're an obvious safety hazard. The San Francisco Giants have since created the enclosed bullpens beyond the outfield fences that have become standard.
A player who runs slowly but is a powerful hitter will be used regularly. If his team is trailing by one run late in a game and he manages to get on base, he might be replaced by a faster "pinch runner" to increase the chances of scoring the tying run. (Traditionally, nearly all players were either big and slow or small and fast. The exceptions were the elite players that made the Hall of Fame. Thanks to modern sports medicine and training, big and fast players are becoming more common in all sports.)

It's generally considered advantageous for a hitter to bat right against a lefty pitcher and bat left against a righty pitcher. But few can do so effectively. Imagine trying to swing the other way with a golf club, the motion's all wrong. So being able to switch hit can be a great skill to have. Notable switch hitters are Hall of Famers Mickey Mantel and Eddie Murray. As well as all time hit leader Pete Rose.

Correct, a switch hitter can hit from both the left and right side. Once they engage the at bat they are committed to that side for the entirety of the at bat, but they can switch from one at bat to the next.

If they can hit but not run they play first base or catcher if they can learn the defensive skills to play those positions--first base is easier.

The batting order usually considers players skills. The worst overall batters are usually 7-9 in the order. The lead off batter is usually a fast runner that is decent at getting on base. Batters 3-5 are typically power hitters who might not be as fast.
