That stuff does not break any lore. The game mode is called “Immortal empires” of course the empires exist through time…. That’s what immortal means.. if you want the time period to be cohesive that’s what the main story mode is for. It’d be like saying zombies in call of duty breaks its lore.. no, the game mode exists in a universe where there are zombies, it has its own lore.
@@ekothesilent9456Your whole premise falls apart when you consider anachronistic lords were still present when the game mode was called “Mortal Empires” in WH2.
I think it is wrong to be angry at CA, there is nothing for them to gain from this, they just wasted their time and manpower for this. Why would they do that, unless they were told to by someone, who can call the shots? CoughGWcough
Well since WH barred CA from using these units as they where not lore friendly , I can only guess somebody either flagged WH and they slapped CA for the 2nd time or CA legal got involved and slapped a developer. Either way, the players lost again vs IP nonsense
Well but a lot of people seem to blame CA for this...even though it seems almost certain that it was Games Workshop that demanded the units removed, not CA.
It doesn't even make sense to claim it's not lore friendly. The repeater ironsides are just regular outriders that dismounted and put on more armor. Does GW think that shooting a repeater handgun will open a rift in The Warp if you're not riding on a horse?
It's not about Lore, CA invented loads of stuff for TW:W. This is about sales and IP. GW's legal team hates having anything exist that doesn't have a figure associated with it that they can sell right this instant, ditto for game rules. It has rules and a saleable figure or it doesn't exist on either metric. The Old World is popular, and handgunners exist. The Amethyst units were provocation for 3rd party companies to start making proxy units for them, and GW's yanked stuff in the past because of that.
Took less than an hour before other modders had helped recover the animation content cut from files to get Guns of the Empire fixed. As far as weekly game breaking patches go, this one isn't even in the worst half. Anybody with those repeater handgunners would unfortunately have a lost campaign.
Your transparency on how you operate and create your content, and the admission on why you did not notice the repeater unit, is sincerely one of the most stand up things ive seen a TH-camr do. I wish more content creators were as authentic as you are. You are the only TH-camr I really watch on the daily even if some of your videos arent as interesting as others. Ive learned so much about how to actually manually do battles in the game, even on difficulty beyond vanilla (mods that nerf auto resolve player biases and make AI able to sack and occupy settlements thr same turn) and i always feel like i can take away a lesson from your content. Dont let CA making changes to the game bring you down or take the wind out of your sails. Even if its usually to patch up cheese. Keep cooking youve really created a special channel in the gaming scene that legitimately has bolstered the confidence of so many players in a game thats really expensive to get into and very daunting. Sincerely, a random viewer
GW doin what GW constantly does recently, forcing devs to remove stuff from games for no good reason other than some insane perception of what will lead to profits. Space Marine 2 is a good example of it, where recent Q&A with the devs revealed that lack of chaos customization is not a technical issue, but a "lore limitation", AKA games workshop saying "no", despite the devs really wanting to implement it. Supposedly it would ruin the lore if someone else than Night Lords was using assault packs, or someone else than Iron Warriors were the heavy class, etc.. even though different traitor legions were using those since forever. And then there's the fact that you can totally paint up your loyalist Space Marine in all the colors of a rainbow and then give them a traitor legion's Badge on the shoulder, and that's perfectly fine and lore-accurate, I suppose. I'm no expert, but I assume it might have something to do with Chaos getting around two new minis once in a blue moon when Jupiter aligns with Mars and Pluto, while Space Marines got a massive Primaris mini lineup rework and are getting a separate codex supplements and rosters for like 10 different chapters by now, all the while GW still desperately tries to get everyone to love the primaris marines more than the classic firstborn designs (which are objectively superior). In other words, GW will absolutely stunt a game's development if it somehow, even vaguely, ties into what minis they want people to buy - and who knows, this here might be related.
Like a day after the DLC was released people already put out mods that put the repeater rifles back in the game. I even downloaded it for my very first campaign. Based on the files that were still in the game. So it was quite well known that they existed within the community.
Funny because I made those units working in SFO day 1 of our release after the DLC and there were no problems. You need to stop making YT Legend! Jokes asaid, good video :).
@kapixniecapix3869 can't speak for Venris, but it's not hard to add units in mods. They might not look exactly the same, but they will be back, don't worry.
@yuzuftazimo2157 if you want to add a brand new unit, yes. You gotta do all the animations, the models, it's CA's real work and really impressive for modders. But adding back these units using the data that was there (putting it in mods instead of having the data there in game files) isn't hard, nor is it hard to "kitbash" units. Ironsides models exist, repeater guns exist, the animations can be reused, the voices, etc. Re-adding these isn't hard, creating a whole new unit that doesn't have an easy counterpart is a lot of work.
Wait a bit and it'll be solved by modders. It's easy to still have access to get the older versions of the game files as long as your game doesn't update automatically, which it really shouldn't for most people, especially modders/mod users. So the modders most likely still have access to everything that was removed and just need to properly put it in the mod instead of using unused game assets.
GW monitor over at CA seething and balding whenever they see a new Legend video come out, trying to find a way to get back at him for not being a shill

Regardless, this apology video along with the shoutout to Great Book of Grudges is a testament of your overall good will, and you are a pillar of this community. I appreciate you. Thanks!
I am someone who will play with up to 60 mods at once and only ever play vanilla to help with bugfixing on the CA forum. Even if your video was the reason for this change, the current frequency of patches has a tendency to break a lot of mods anyway, so that blots out the sun of what you did. If the situation was like pre Thrones of Decay with updates every couple of months, maybe I could feel aggrieved. But even then, I accept this game though released is still in development and we're all beta testers now. If a campaign can't be loaded, I don't care that much because I can just make a new campaign of something else and the start of campaigns are the most engaging part.
To unlock entire factions in Rome:TW all you needed to do was move them to the "playable" section of the .INI files.. This is why automatic updates are a cancer in gaming lol.

Hey Legend, don't worry about it too much, the mod makers are resilient. We've already got a mod to restore the animations for the repeaters (which is the part I cared about, personally), and I'm sure it wouldn't be impossible to get the blunderbusses if they really wanted them. This is just GW being GW, unfortunately.
Honestly, Good on you for owning up to it, even if it's not a big thing, I personally play with only some QoL mods, but even if I used more I think it would have bothered me to need to wait for fixes, so thanks for saying what you're saying
Literally don't know why people wouldn't play with mods when there are so many quality of life mods that just improve general features of the game. Like the mods that automatically skips all the start up splash screens. Or the Army Carousel mod that makes menu navigation between all your heroes/lords a lot easier. Or mods that make the lighting look better. You're basically having a worse experience for the sake of "purity".
my favorite mod is 'faster end turn camera' that just stops the camera scrolling over to belakors faction at the speed of molasses every turn it's awesome.
My take: I'm sure your video EXPEDITED this process but, I wouldn't feel too badly about it. It probably would have been discovered eventually anyway. Maybe someone else would have made a video with those units in it or maybe a dev would have inquired about it to GW at some point? Who knows.
1:50 Hey Legend, sorry to hear this video did less well than expected. I for one found it really interesting and learned some new techniques I genuinely never would have thought of myself! Keep up the interesting content!
I was checking out the workshop page for some interesting looking mods, and it was like 2 maybe 3 days before this patch. So glad I didn't bother with them LMFAO
Something to consider as well, you have also had videos highlighting random crashes of which they patched some out this patch. While yes you drew more attention to the units, you also do the community a service by bringing those other things into light as well.
So that's why all the rollbacks are gone. Well, RIP my turn 80 Throt campaign, my turn 140 Kostaltyn campaign and third attempt at finishing Kroq-Gar campaign at turn 170.
I just hope we can all tread a little carefully. CA only barely got modding into TWWH in the first place, and we don't want GW regretting yielding to that more than they apparently do.
Thank you Legend, for being a freakin legend. This is a level of honest transparency that I wish more creators would adopt. I wish you and your family all the best.
Ok man there is a mod up for these units though it does make some changes/improvements, also they stated they were gonna remove unnecessary content from the game however I checked and found naval battles are still in, pretty sure if I was to check all files I would find they just removed these 2, not sure whey they felt they had to do this, thanks for leading us to victory at the hot gates off shadows of short change, much love to all
I might be misremembering, but I'd swear that up until the first hot fix a few days in, Amethest Ironsides had the repeating rifles, but not the regular Ironsides. Modder who created the mod to put both Repeater variants in as distinct units also noted that all the files, models, etc, were present in CA's code, they were just disabled.
GBOGs is great, not sure how he hasnt been skyrocketing in subs. 10/10 would recommend. Also yeah I wouldn't take all the blame. These kinds of hotfixes usually don't break most mods. Hopefully most people's mods didn't completely break.
I respect that you’re taking responsibility, but I don’t think it’s your fault. You just made a video on it. And I am very certain that this is GW’s fault, they’re notoriously anti fun
There were actually a lot of comments on the amethyst video from people that seemed to be informed about the licensing stuff. I think this would have happened anyway, maybe a bit later. And other content creators would have definetely picked these hidden units for a video, because it makes for good content.
It doesn't matter that you rocked the boat. CA and GW are the ocean, they get to determine everything that happens to our boats, they even built the boats (with parts that they don't like). They made an anti-consumer decision and we have to live with it. You're understanding and empathetic, that's all that can be expected of you.
I started a campaign on the new campaign and whenever I target a unit my attacker never truly chases them they fight the enemy moves and my guys stand still like I have them on hold position when I dont. Really took the wind out of me and I can't enjoy the game like this. Is anyone else facing the same probelm or is it just me 😢
Try 180+. Used the rollback function like twice. Thing is, while the game itself could be rolled back the mods that were instantly updated for the new version would no longer work if you were to roll back, so you would still end up scrapping a campaign. SFO purists however, may feel the slap. :D
What I do is i always set my update to when the game starts, and start the game using the mod manager. So it will only update when I actually want it to.
A great week for this to happen, honestly-IRl stuff is preventing me from playing regardless, so if mods had gone busted for this to happen that’s ultimately fine. It’ll be at least another half-week or so before I’ll be able to get any new campaigns going anyways If you had something to do with this, it was ultimately a neutral consequence for me at least-you’re good man
I think that everyone should be able to access any version of the game any time. I don't understand how they can dictate what version of the game should I play.
It's been two hours and he's already gotten ~800 new subscribers, that's about 20% of the viewers of this vid so far. Pretty impressive considering that a lot of us are already subscribed.
Bro, I usually play with like 100 mods and really don't care if I lose a save file. I'll just boot up another campaign. That's the beauty of the mods. You can just go and play vanilla with quality of life mods or a highly modded Araby campaign whenever.
There are practical reasons to remove cut content with patches. Technically such content bloat the game files making the install bigger than it should be. However, that would not explain why they are removing all older versions, unless their update rollback system cannot handle assets being removed by patches. As such I would agree with the overall opinion that this is a licencing issue between CA and GW where they are not allowed to publish such assets. I would like to point out that with Warcraft III Reforged the chaos space orc model was removed from that game's archives. People suspected that this was also due to concerns with GW due to it being too similar to the Warhammer 40k orcs, which it was intended to be as an easter egg/reference.
I am very bummed that my turn 80 Allarielle campaign can't be rolled back, but nothing to do with you Legend. It's just GW being GW, they'll do anything to protect their content.
Thank you for understanding and admitting your (likely) mistake. While GW is the final boss here, annoying them caused collateral damage to ones using mods. I really can't be unhappy about someone making a mistake and apologizing for it - sincere thanks for this video!
No worries legend, i like the new responsive CA so much, it's a million times better than the ignoring us completely, it's little baby steps but CA is really improving lately!
I play with mods regularly, honestly this does have GW written all over it. And frankly it's stupid, modders are just going to put those units back into the game via mods anyway. I am a modder, it wouldn't be hard. But the fact this means a loss of the rollback feature for awhile is not good. GW retcons or ruins their IP half the time anyway, they just do these stupid things just because. Repeating guns for the Empire are fine, we have ratling guns for skaven, the dwarfs should have crank guns and steam mechs, the f**king infernal guard fireglaive is stated to be a repeater gun in it's own descriptive text on the unit card. So a beefier repeating rifle for the empire makes sense to me, they have the technology. So no I'm not mad at Legend, and only mad at CA in the sense of, they were likely forced to do this, which doesn't make me feel any better about it happening.

"Fun detected, Pull the Plug!" This was always the first response to this kind of situation.
CA hate fun
@@TheSuperappelflap GW hate fun, CA is just complicit
Well since WH barred CA from using these units as they where not lore friendly , I can only guess somebody either flagged WH and they slapped CA for the 2nd time or CA legal got involved and slapped a developer. Either way, the players lost again vs IP nonsense
replace WH with GW, im retarded
Make a video about "secret ohmega pathing tech" that "showcases" the secret horrible AI pathing. Should get fixed within a week
Funny because I made those units working in SFO day 1 of our release after the DLC and there were no problems. You need to stop making YT Legend! Jokes asaid, good video :).
It is possible to recreate those units from backup or something?
@kapixniecapix3869 can't speak for Venris, but it's not hard to add units in mods. They might not look exactly the same, but they will be back, don't worry.
@@kapixniecapix3869 easy
@@arthanor9631 I heard it's hard. from animation, interaction all related stuff.
Great Book of Grudges also has fantastic content on MODS too if any of you are interested in those. I know I do!
repeater handgun got takedown so bad even the unreleased file, meanwhile steamtank doomstack is okay
I had just downloaded the mod to use the units in my next campaign too! 😢
same here, hopefully the people who made the mod are able to remake them if need be
Wait a bit and it'll be solved by modders. It's easy to still have access to get the older versions of the game files as long as your game doesn't update automatically, which it really shouldn't for most people, especially modders/mod users. So the modders most likely still have access to everything that was removed and just need to properly put it in the mod instead of using unused game assets.
I dont know yet what you did Legend. But I forgive you.
Forgiven

What a stupid reason for hotfix
CA and GW be stalking legend 😭
GW monitor over at CA seething and balding whenever they see a new Legend video come out, trying to find a way to get back at him for not being a shill
I agree, love TheGreatBookofGrudges channel, I said in one of his videos but you and him were the only one that kept the totalwarwarhammer back then

Legend, even if this happened to be a result of that one video, it’s almost impossible to know what would or wouldn’t be an issue.
GW is the villian here for not just adding them, not Legend for showing them.
GW probably didn't allow it
I’m really fucking annoyed they keep fucking up my saved game files…
To unlock entire factions in Rome:TW all you needed to do was move them to the "playable" section of the .INI files.. This is why automatic updates are a cancer in gaming lol.
That part about TGBoG was adorable :3
there's something so endearing about seeing someone who's main act is cynical, rough criticism and game exploitation turn and ask his subscribers to help make his friend happy. I'm not really interested in TW or Warhammer news, but i'll subscribe to him just because of how cute and sincere that request was.
Legend isnt cynical. Hes just a cranky 30 something man yelling at cloud. Just like me fr.
If he were cynical hed be much, much more negative about CA and the future of Total War. But then he'd be even more like me.
@@TheSuperappelflap cynical is relative, and it just so happens many members of the TW TH-cam scene (partnership program) are towards the sycophantic extreme, so in comparison, legend is a cynic.
@@MemekingJag Thats not how things work. You cant just call everyone who isnt an extreme positivist a cynic because they stand out from the crowd. Legend is very balanced.
First of all thank you for the video. It's always good to clarify things and I think by not being affiliated with CA, you kind of became the voice of the community. You can say things more directly and could vent a little (justified) anger. I always felt like grudges is suffering more from not being able to say certain things (and of course because he loves everything WH)
I wish smaller creators IP would get the same protection Game's Workshop is able to deploy to their IP .
Going to have to slum it with your old Lamborghini for a while longer.
Just so you know, loved the last video with the dwarf army, was really cool to see the strat you used
My take: I'm sure your video EXPEDITED this process but, I wouldn't feel too badly about it.
CA can suck it. Backed up my 5.2.5 build already anyway, I'll enjoy the forbidden fruit amethyst units
You can literally get them back via a mod with one click anyway so this whole thing is stupid. Like they ruined mods with a new patch for no reason
@@George_Rakkasnot no reason. Now they are not liable for the units, so GW can not jump on them.
Something to consider as well, you have also had videos highlighting random crashes of which they patched some out this patch. While yes you drew more attention to the units, you also do the community a service by bringing those other things into light as well.
The great book of grudges is amazing. He deserves the recognition
So that's why all the rollbacks are gone. Well, RIP my turn 80 Throt campaign, my turn 140 Kostaltyn campaign and third attempt at finishing Kroq-Gar campaign at turn 170.
And Nathan is at 100K subs. Took a few hours only. Great job everyone! 🎉🎉🎉
I just hope we can all tread a little carefully. CA only barely got modding into TWWH in the first place, and we don't want GW regretting yielding to that more than they apparently do.
Thank you for being so transparent and honest :)
Thank you Legend, for being a freakin legend. This is a level of honest transparency that I wish more creators would adopt.
I wish you and your family all the best.
Not really necessary to apologize but as always I'm certain everyone can appreciate your honesty and integrity mate. 😘
This is actually really funny. Thanks for your hard work and CA for being CA I guess.
Searching for the original sender of a code is like the search for that one joke in family guy.
It sounded like GW told them off so they spitefully called you out 😅 they really banged on WE KNOW HOW MUCH YOU LOVE AND NEEED BACKWARDS PATCH USAGE
I hope modders will add these units fully!
Ok man there is a mod up for these units though it does make some changes/improvements, also they stated they were gonna remove unnecessary content from the game however I checked and found naval battles are still in, pretty sure if I was to check all files I would find they just removed these 2, not sure whey they felt they had to do this, thanks for leading us to victory at the hot gates off shadows of short change, much love to all
Going to check out Great Book if Grudges after this video. Count on a new sub here.
"... I wasnt paying attention!" how unusual for him 🤔
Who would've known we'd get an actual apology video from legend.
I just finished my last dwarf campaign before this so it didn't break my modded campaign but appreciate the consideration anyway ;)
I read these patch notes and was like dang legend making waves.
There's been a mod like this since day 1 of the release. But the story behind it is more spicey... these units should be in the game
A man that takes responsibility for an issue that could even not be his fault to begin with, you truly are a Legend
Dog act to remove rollbacks. Typical GW behaviour
Is anyone else facing the same probelm or is it just me 😢
A voice of reason and truth. You’ve maintained your integrity and that’s a big deal
Arch warned us.
Those units are 100% part of planned DLC for later.
Try 180+. Used the rollback function like twice. Thing is, while the game itself could be rolled back the mods that were instantly updated for the new version would no longer work if you were to roll back, so you would still end up scrapping a campaign. SFO purists however, may feel the slap. :D
Legend, you found the way to solve every problem with this game, use it well and maybe we can have a game with a lot less bug
np bro as someone who plays with 150 to 200 mods im not upset its all good
The only one to blame here is GW, who else could possibly cut off fully functional content from DLC?
maybe the company who just cut off a whole fully functional 100million dollar game?

Legendary co-op campaign with great book of grudges
A great week for this to happen, honestly-IRl stuff is preventing me from playing regardless, so if mods had gone busted for this to happen that’s ultimately fine. It’ll be at least another half-week or so before I’ll be able to get any new campaigns going anyways

You're coming clean for something that happened on accident? You're good in my book, man. No grudge here!
I think that everyone should be able to access any version of the game any time. I don't understand how they can dictate what version of the game should I play.
Been subbed to both of yall for awhile, Lets go new Legend Live stream since Nathan hit 100k!
Also, great book of grudges puts so much work into his videos; his content is top tier.
It's been two hours and he's already gotten ~800 new subscribers, that's about 20% of the viewers of this vid so far. Pretty impressive considering that a lot of us are already subscribed.
Someone at CA probably got told off for dummying out something they were supposed to remove.
But... but... why?! I legitimately don´t understand what is the purpose of this?
Games Workshop vetoed the units before the dlc released and told CA to not include them
Its Games Workshop and their long history of being very specific about what the models of units look like.
Games Workshop like to throw tantrums whenever there's anything done with their IP that they don't 100% support
@@Eclipsed_Embers yeah but they make like shitty mobile games and other cash out stuff with the IP sooooo.......
