    Hi Jeff. I can confidently tell you the alternator fan combo draws over 8 hp. Ive done a fair bit of testing on the dyno. I cant tell you exactly what the new alternator sucks in power as l havent used the bigger Alt but it would be easy to do the maths at 150 amps. I can confidently tell you that a vee drive belt will slip and not drive the fan and alt under full load. Ive learnt this from my race car. No matter how tight l have run the vee belt. I had a rpm sensor fitted to my fan for my data logger to try and resolve cyl head temps as l suspected that the fan speed stalled. It turns out l was right. To resolve the problem l fitted a serpentine 4 ribbed belt system and fitted a sprag clutch to the alternator drive to stop the start up chirp and the belt wind up on engine deaccel.

    Try printing with PTEG. It’s high temp, strong and you won’t have the warping problems.

    My trick to print big pieces in ASA and ABS without a heatbox is to print in small pieces and then join all together with PVC glue.

    150A gives approx 3hp load assuming 10% loss. There are some advantages on efficiency with eAC vs a regular engine driven compressor (less so with a variable displacement compressor as used in more recent times) but it's nothing like a fair comparison. There aren't any shortcuts when it comes to thermodynamics & a system that consumes so little power will be pretty much proportionally less effective. I'd be interested to see cabin pull down performance in a decent ambient for both systems but fully appreciate that it maybe good enough for what is required on your build.

    It's also worth mentioning that oem cars which use eAC have compressors rated in the 5-9Kw range which makes operation from 12V impossible. Generally either 48V or HV fed due to the power demand.

    In some camping stores and probably on amazon you can find little 12volt electric heaters and hair dryers . Some of the hair dryers are good for windscreen defrosters as they can be fitted into existing duct work with little effort . Some people don't even bother cutting off the handle.

    I’d say 3D print a flange that adapts to the dash shape better, but uses the same vents. Might be difficult to draw, but I’m sure you would be happier with the end result.
    I just got my first printer, I plan to do everything using carbon PC. Seems to have some of the best specs of everything, time will tell if it prints nicely though.

    What no heat shrink on those new supplied alternator cables bit cheap, time to pull them out apply some, or at a pinch amalgamating tape. What is it you say about doing a job twice ;)
    I haven’t had any problems so far with esun petg printed parts surviving the recent 40c temps over here in wa. No probs with warping only sticking too well to my bed surface and damaging buildtak , later on even pulled some glass up off a mirror bed, so now let a bit of windex dry on the glass b4 printing and all good

    @Jeff, what 3d printer are you using. That vent you printed looked really smooth and professional. Also, what software did you use to create that? You're a brave man to cut through your dash like that! I appreciate that fearlessness!

    Looks like everyone beat me to the 3d print a vent. ABS, then smooth it with acetone, boom, looks like factory.
    Just build a simple box to plop over the 3d printer let the build plate heat it up, finally have a glass window on one of the sides. Doesn't have to be expensive and difficult, even cardboard would work.

    Quick question. Did you actually wire in the new alternator and connect both the old and new starter motor cable? Not sure If I understood that correctly. Nice work again and i will be pulling the trigger and buying this system.

      I kept the original alternator power line and just added the larger cable alongside.

    Did you run the new alternator cable through the grommet in the engine shroud or somewhere else? Trying to install this as well. I'm not sure how to get it down to the alternator.

    Not sure about the center vent install. Would've kept it without this vent as this system will probably keep the cabin cold anyway.

      I agree. My 911 have no problem of getting air to the feet or face using the original points. I don’t have the vents in the sides as mine is a 73 targa. The floor vents are quite effective

    Have any porsche guys considered ducted air intake for the engine. At a glance that is a very big fan for the throttle bodies to fight against. Would be interesting to know if the engine bay is under vacuum at high rpm.

    Is there an easy upgrade for the belt drive to the new alternator and fan. A single belt isn't capable of driving that load !

    Not sure if you can connect old and new alternator red cables. It doesn't matter if the old has the new one in parallel, it will burn anyway.

    Couldn’t you 3D-print this new fans with the shape of your old dashboard using a 3D-scanner. Maybe #makersmuse (youtube) can help you out (from Sydney)🤞👍. This doesn’t look to nice as you were saying 🤪. Great to see this install, as always

    Oh no... god, I should of sent you a message... I am in the process of having a custom 3d printed ring that replaces the ring on the Ford f-150 which will sit flush on the clock gauge and mimic the OEM gauges ring lip.... It's not going to be as good as having a dual vent but still better than cutting into the dash... bummer...
