This is my favorite D Segment in the market. Took it up Genting before and its lovely. The chassis is very interesting, can be comfortable and yet handles very well despite the tyre protest. Fit it with better tyre and this will be much more fun in touge.
Hahaha, it was the sensation of the car slingshotting out of that bend, because it is downhill and slightly banked. When the road is clear you can take that one really fast.
My current car is passat b7, Really enjoyed this car, especially in highway... Very easy get 160/180km/hr. One thing is very stable and safe. Planning upgrade to b8 2.0 Thanks uncle

I initially wanted to get the Honda Civic 1.5 cause it was such an incredible all-rounder car in terms of performance, control, comfort/space and gadgets/safety features that came along with the car at that price. A friend of mine then suggested the Passat 2.0 which at first glance seems to be a decent D-class segment. Pricing wise, it's more or less the same with its competitors Camry and Accord but on paper, it somewhat falls short in the safety feature department and performance. The conundrum I'm facing ofc isn't about the Passat not being a car that can hold its own, as shown by Uncle here, but is the car actually worth buying considering how it lacks certain key features. And I heard from another review on TH-cam that the in-car noise gets deafening once you hit 90 and above which is a big no no for me. Personally I'm not a car enthusiast but is it really worth the money I'm paying for? Or should I either go for Camry/Accord or select the Civic instead. (C vs D class doesn't matter much to me tbh, it's just what the Passat provides vs competitors that keeps me up at night)
In life, you should just go for what you like. There is never one product that will have all the features you would like to have. Take a step backwards and ask yourself about each of the features you are pondering. Do you need it? People will buy what they need, not what they want. Separate you needs and wants, then choose the car that satisfies most or all of your needs
Hi YS, It is indeed a lovely car with the right balance of performance & handling. My concern is on the reliability of the car especially the DSG. The notorious VW service centres compound the issue further. Would love to get your input , if possible. Thanks.
The DSG fiasco was 8 years ago. If the DSG is not good, don't you think they would have discarded it? And so many other brands are using it now. I have a 300+ hp VW running the same gearbox, 5 yes old now, and have no issues.
Hey, how does this new Passat compared to the pre facelift 2.0 highline Passat in the handling department? Especially since there is no more DCC and XDS

Hi Mr Khong, how is the steering feel and suspension tuning like vs the prefacelift? I drove the prefacelift 1.8 TSI Comfortline Plus on 18" and I although the car was quite capable in high speed corners, the steering was exceedingly numb at high speed while the chassis was floaty. Didn't inspire a lot of confidence unlike the Mondeo and Mazda6.
The current Elegance has a firmer suspension and feels a lot better to drive. I believe the floaty feeling you got is a result of poor wheel alignment. I have driven the previous 1.8 before, and it definitely feels better than a Mondeo, and should be about the same as a Mazda6.
The new Camry is also very quiet.For cars in this class, they do quite a bit for sound proofing and at normal road speeds you hardly hear anything but the tyres on the road. I would say they are very close, but we did not do a side by side test.
It would be a pleasure if you may have a comparison video between these two rivals and also accord side by side. That will interesting😁 Btw thanks uncle, enjoy watching your driving skills 💪
The Mazda 2.5 comes with a long list of bells and whistles, and costs a bit more. The Passat has a bit more in terms of torque, but overall horsepower is about the same. It comes down to brand preference at the end of it all.
Uncle YS Khong, there are many people giving high appreciation to Camry TNGA about it handling performance. Mind to share what is your opinion comparing Camry and Passat regarding the handling performance?
We have both the videos on exactly the same road. Both are good handlers, with the Camry being a bit more comfortable, but the Passat makes more power, especially in torque.
This one though I like the earlier one because of power. My reason only 1. This has a wet clutch same as the GTi. The other has dry clutch which has lotsa problems.

Why would an owner need to do 7.5k service themselves? That's really strange. The service interval is 15k as specified in the handbook. I also have a VW

Not sure but if what they meant is better to do 7.5K self service then it would be quite a hassle even for a normal driver who won't mod it and occasionally drive sporty only. Actually it felt okay in the driving department. You will only feel the difference, at the top of the rev band. The average driver will not notice any difference at all. And this one will save some fuel too. We have done a FC test as well.
They are two very different cars. Both are about the same size, and oerformance is similar, but both handle differently. Best to test both and decide after testing.
We did the Diesel. Right now we have the MCO in force. Perhaps after this is over, we can do it. At the moment we have a few videos left to edit, so they will be coming out in the next few days.

If you like FWD, it's the Passat. 320i is RWD. The Passat is more comfortable, and a bit more powerful than the 320i, and there is less transmission loss for fwd vs rwd.
So many woohoo... Passat is really a lot of 'car' as a whole. As of 18 March, we are into the Ristricted Movement Order. So maybe Uncle can do some run up and down with some cars nowadays with pretty much clear roads. Just that no breakfast in Gohtong Jaya.
When someone test drive a car, is not just the speed and the skill in handling a power train engine. You misses out many important factors like looking out for blind spot, control position, cruise system, adjustment of steering wheel and seats etc....... watch youtube in "how to test drive a sedan", and that helps to understand what to watch out when buying a car than showing how to speed the car on the road.

His experiences are formidable but his wisdom is questionable.

Maybe Uncle can show those star rating kind of chart at end of every video. You can give how many stars for each segment like handling, acceleration etc etc. If rajin sikit can even put comparison chart between the tested car and its its closest competitor. Just my 2 cents Uncle ya 😅

@@edwardkok9596 I see. Interesting. I went to the volkswagen showroom the other day and I was told that the Volkswagen Vento 1.2 Tsi still uses the dry clutch DSG. Don't know about the Passat though. I'm confused.
The DSG issue was in 2012: Eight years have passed - if the problem is not resolved, I would imaging VW would have changed to another gearbox; but they have not. And DSG means Direct Shift Gearbox, and the common name for this type of gearbox is DCT, or Dual Clutch Transmission. Many other brands are using DCT boxes now - Mercedes, Renault, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Honda, just to name a few. The Golf 1.4 Tsi and the Vento are using the dry type. The dry clutch is for lighter duty. The wet clutch is used in the Tiguan, Passat, and Golf GTi onwards as these have a heavier duty cycle.
@@fufu4695 D segment body is heavy. Its going fast, but u will not feel fast. Maybe u too used to drive small and lighter car such as myvi/axia to name a few. Lighter car, when pull feel much more obvious. U try driving 7 series. The pull is there, but u not feel fast, but indeed its going fast.

This has a wet clutch unlike the earlier versions which use a dry clutch.

You only have the one setting. It felt like it was a little more firm than comfort setting. Was quite good in handling as you can see from the video.

It's almost the same. Driven at normal speed you probably won't feel any different.

A sedan will always have a better ride. A suv gives you a higher seating position.

Pre reg 2.0 at 150k is a bargain. With dcc, higher tuned engine, xds and a cheaper price than the elegance

When someone test drive a car, is not just the speed and the skill in handling a power train engine. You misses out many important factors like looking out for blind spot, control position, cruise system, adjustment of steering wheel and seats etc....... watch youtube in "how to test drive a sedan", and that helps to understand what to watch out when buying a car than showing how to speed the car on the road.
Bro, every TH-cam motor channel has its pros and cons. We come here to see his driving skills and experience not to mention his knowledge on cars. To each his own bro.

He is providing his speeding act and posted proof in the youtube, no very wise, bro. Owner who wishes to test drive their vehicle should apply and seek permission from the traffic police department and with an approved circuit. 5 times champion rally winner should be aware of it. His experiences are formidable but his wisdom is questionable.

If you are not, please refrain passing your judgement about him. There are numbers of other youtubers in Malaysia giving review of Passat Elegance and you can watch those videos.

u reviewing a car perfomance going up on Genting, as a viewer would not now how good is "pretty good" for the handling, or how amazing is "quite amazing" for acceleration for example.

Maybe Uncle can show those star rating kind of chart at end of every video. You can give how many stars for each segment like handling, acceleration etc etc. If rajin sikit can even put comparison chart between the tested car and its its closest competitor. Just my 2 cents Uncle ya 😅

Hmmmm i wonder if the DSG dry clutch issues still exist. That is my biggest worry. Does anyone have an opinion?
This 2020 version has wet clutch. The earlier model has dry clutch which is a no go.
@@edwardkok9596 I see. Interesting. I went to the volkswagen showroom the other day and I was told that the Volkswagen Vento 1.2 Tsi still uses the dry clutch DSG. Don't know about the Passat though. I'm confused.
The DSG issue was in 2012: Eight years have passed - if the problem is not resolved, I would imaging VW would have changed to another gearbox; but they have not. And DSG means Direct Shift Gearbox, and the common name for this type of gearbox is DCT, or Dual Clutch Transmission. Many other brands are using DCT boxes now - Mercedes, Renault, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Honda, just to name a few.
The Golf 1.4 Tsi and the Vento are using the dry type. The dry clutch is for lighter duty. The wet clutch is used in the Tiguan, Passat, and Golf GTi onwards as these have a heavier duty cycle.

Im driving Passat B7 that using dsg dry clutch for bout 5 years now.. so far no problem at all.. do not listen to people that never owned 1...

@@fufu4695 D segment body is heavy. Its going fast, but u will not feel fast. Maybe u too used to drive small and lighter car such as myvi/axia to name a few. Lighter car, when pull feel much more obvious. U try driving 7 series. The pull is there, but u not feel fast, but indeed its going fast.
