I came here on a short break from trying to research the best way to suspend cores within moulds for irregular-shaped centres of two-part cylindrical cast casings. I know this isn't exactly what you did, and my purposes are for mass-production, but seeing your method has stopped me wildly over-engineering some mad impractical set of patterns moulds and cores, or at least prevented rework. I can expand the central core and keep parts to a minimum. Thanks for humbling my design! And they say procrastination is wasted time...
You might could get a hose adapter to fit the size of your core to force the co2 through the entire core at a very low pressure to avoid blasting sand out of the core before it hardens
Hello, I'm a fellow caster, I would like to know if anyone has ever used Co2/Argon mix and if they have tried it, how well did it work, I have a tank and thought is was worth a shot before paying for Co2. I Finally figured it out, Sodium silicate is (Water-Glass) (used to seal bad head gaskets, seal/preserve farmers eggs, floor sealer, GM used it to lock up engines when they did obama's cash for clunkers. I found this, i might try it. Refractory use Water glass is a useful binder of solids, such as vermiculite and perlite. When blended with the aforementioned lightweight aggregates, water glass can be used to make hard, high-temperature insulation boards used for refractories, passive fire protection and high temperature insulations, such as moulded pipe insulation applications. When mixed with finely divided mineral powders, such as vermiculite dust (which is common scrap from the exfoliation process), one can produce high temperature adhesives. The intumescence disappears in the presence of finely divided mineral dust, whereby the waterglass becomes a mere matrix.
3, if you are so worried about tapping it too hard (there is no such thing as tapping sand too hard, you are human, you can't make diamonds), why not just make a wooden jig, that fits the pvc pipe, an inch down, and use a mallet to tap the sand down :-) you're welcome! (if the round hole tends to be too big for you to think, I can't make round holes that big, use a T shaped rod, with 2 ends of chisels attached that you can slide over the horizontal rod and secure in place, and use a drillpress to dril out the hole. )
as a former safety and fire guard on petrochemical plants, I can only advice you to always at least wear a P3 mask, when you work with any kind of sand, dust, even chemicals, or mixed together... some, can cause cancer. like concrete for example, it contains dust particles that cause cancer. It doesn't sound like you are wearing any kind of protection for your airways :-) Nobody makes the rules on how to make video's, you can always add the commentary later and put your own safety first. just sayin' :)
6. so let me get this straight, doing that, flooding it, makes it hard in an instant? I wonder, try this, take an empty tank, cut it in half, add 2 circles, weld them together, a lot of nuts and a bolts, 2 rubber o rings, a ball valve on the tank, a one way valve as a secondary inlet, and pressurize it with co2 with a lot of cores in there, that you need to harden. wouldn't that be a lot more safe for you, and for the environment? you can empty the tank, but filling another with the CO2 in that tank... your wallet will thank you :)
5. now i'm 10 minutes in..... are you nuts? flooding it with CO2 without any form of breath protection? do you really do that? it's not that CO2 is heavier than air, that is can't first mix with the air before it drops to the ground..... i'm almost tempted to take away my like and puts a thumbs down on this dude.... what else can I expect that gives me goosebumps ????

give it another 15 years ... look back... and try teaching then. if you are going to take the finite honor of being a teacher... you need to hold yourself to standards as if you were teaching as a harvard instructor.. and as if your student had absolutely zero knowledge on your topic... be thorough, professional, clear... and packed with information. appreciated the inclusion of the term "core print"... would have appreciated more information. other terms used..even history on it... more information on other chemical names and uses for cores... above all obviously the actual placement of the core in a mold being prepared.... this video seems to be an intentional injury to cause a disturbance in the community... or distrust and fear of the liability of a "guild only" type of circumstance.. .in short it may be innocent... but it is certainly barratry. ive seen worse... many i do not comment on .... but if you are of good will.. than that also is a finite resource and incredibly valuable.... give yourself another ten or 15 years... and then go back through, with the closest approximation of a perfect video, given your incredible toolset and knowledge of what a best type instructional video should represent....by doing that... you will both better the general public by enriching and preserving its access to knowledge as well as help to ensure the actual paid trade schools are rightly and truly held to a high standard. best wishes Arc

Same situation, here. I agree with you. Would have waaaay over-engineered a solution for a core.
Exactly what I was looking for. Great video showing all things, including the mess ups that we all do.
FYI, Silica sand is VERY harmful if breathed in. It's small particle of glass, and once in your lungs it's there to stay.
Terrific excellent video, good communication skills. I subscribed to your Channel.
Thanks for a good video, some commenting people need to shut up, I don't see them offering free help to others.
I am sure he works better now.
It's the magic of youtube, you watch people learning ;)

Can we use normal sand instead of silica sand?
2 learnt a lot, thank you!
Its a nice video, thank you!

Can we use plaster of paris ?
If you are referring to the mold used to make the core, yes you can, but not as the core itself. It won't stand up to the heat.

Hi.. how to make core past to repair core
We use dmea gas to harden our silica cores instantly.
Its was a good video, I liked it.

Leave the man alone, just saying.

There always has to be one! Whats up with the safety trolls!!Geez, he is not climbing into a co2 tank.
