    Enjoyed your trip. Brought back memories, I did the same trip in 2018 on a 18' pontoon alone. Went from downtown Knoxville on Tennesse river then up to Cilina, TN on Cumberland. Funny I ran into many of the same problems you did such as the bass boats and the weeds. I am working on a way now to repeat the trip but on a much more comfortable vessel and with friends.

      Hi Doug, that's a pretty good haul in a pontoon and alone at that.
      We wanted to start in Celina but I couldn't get my boat down that skinny steep ramp in Wolf Creek. Downstream at Roaring River, it was shoaled up from recent flooding in Kentucky so we had to settle for Granville.
      We're heading up Knoxville way here a few weeks. That's the only part of the Tennessee we haven't had the boat on (except below Kentucky dam).

      Yes, this was the only time on this trip where we shared a cove with another traveler. We actually met these folks on this boat way back in Florence Alabama. They were doing the Loop but decided to take a side trip up to Knoxville. There is a community traveling on the rivers, and a lot of these folks cross paths many times over years of traveling the rivers.

    My wife and I want to do the loop and after seeing your channel we want to do it on a lil hobo. My wife has hip problems and that boat looks like easy access for her. Thanks for posting your videos and giving us the idea. Unfortunately we haven't been able to find any used hobos but we keep looking. Here's looking forward to seeing your next adventure.

    • @justkeepgoing
      @justkeepgoing  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hey Joseph, used Lil' hobos are hard to find as they are all custom built. If you find one that is built after 2008 then that's the way to go as they used composites in the cabin walls instead of laminated fiberglass and wood. The lower cabin walls tend to have issues with rot in the older boats. There are still older ones that are still good however, you just have to check the good.
      Good luck.

      Past Charleston but not Ocoee due to obstacles on the upper end of Coon Denton Island. We're going to try it again this summer in our pontoon boat.

    We are docked at Turkey Creek Marina, river mile 85 on the Tennessee River... doing the length of the TN is a bucket list trip for us but just curious as to why you went up river instead of down river?? we plan on starting in Knoxville and floating with the current back down river to the Ky Dam..

    • @justkeepgoing
      @justkeepgoing  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Tosha, we started on the Cumberland River up on Lake Cordell Hull. I thought about going the other way, but after looking at all the data, at the time, we found the current on the Cumberland running much faster than on the Tennessee because of floods up in Kentucky. The lakes being bigger and much wider on the Tennessee, I surmised that current would be slower overall on the Tennessee, and it was for the most part, except below Pickwick dam, which was generating heavy because of energy demand due to hot weather. In the end, the wind was a bigger factor on the Tennessee than the current, because of the effects from hurricane Ian. If we had only been doing just the Tennessee, then we would have gone downstream from home.
      We plan to head up from here to the confluence of the Tennessee above Knoxville here in a few weeks. That's the only part of the Tennessee we lack covering, at least in Slo-Mo.
      Ya'll will have a great trip, whichever way you go - you just have to.

    Curious what the total cost of your trip was? I am guessing about 80 cent to a dollar a mile. You only stay at Marinas a few night and parks to wash cloths so it had to be quite reasonable. What a wonderful trip and vacation.

    • @justkeepgoing
      @justkeepgoing  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You are close as far as fuel costs. Over all we were just under $1800 for the entire 30 day trip. This includes the three nights spent in the expensive lodges and a few great meals at marina grills along the way. I thought that was reasonable.

      Hello, Anthony. In this boat, no, but we've had some close calls. We did run the foot of the motor into the mud once, however. We set my depth warning on our sonar at 5 ft. , Even though we have an 18inch draft (24inch if you include the motor foot), this gives an ample "head up" since we are usually just puttering along at 5-6 mph.
