This is my favorite place in all of Paris! I could spend hours in Sainte Chapelle and never get bored. When friends tell me that they are going to Paris for the first time I always recommend a visit here. Every single friend has said that it was the highlight of their trip. It also beats the noisy crowds over at Notre Dame!
On my first full day in Paris I went to see Sainte Chapelle. The experience was one of overwhelming awe, bordering on ecstasy. It is an amazing technical accomplishment how the chunky exterior buttresses seem to dematerialize when one is inside the church. This chapel is truly a spectacular artistic achievement, one that redeems the work of fools elsewhere on this planet. There is hope for us all. We just need reminders.
My wife and myself visited Sainte-Chapelle this month. This video is spot on, when you walk into the upper section and confront the gothic architecture and all the stained glass, there is a direct and immediate impact of "wow".
I visited the Sainte Chapelle before and after restoration. The stained glass windows have recovered their dazzling luminosity. If possible, it must be visited on a sunny day to realise how sublime the interior is. The stained glass craftsmen's skill at its peak. The Bible on glass.
I thoroughly agree with you. Visiting Sainte Chapelle was on my bucket list after reading a National Geographic article about it when I was in 6th grade. When my family and I stayed with my French foreign exchange sister in Paris I begged her to take us there. There are no words to describe what it was like to walk up the circular stone staircase and out into the chapel. I could’ve died right then and there and been happy. Sacred music of the Middle Ages was playing softly in the background. The four of us were absolutely speechless and teary eyed because of the indescribable beauty. We spent over an hour and a half just looking at the stained glass which depict the most important stories of the Old and New Testaments. I’ve visited many beautiful churches and cathedrals throughout Europe and none of them come even close to St. Chapelle for the sheer beauty of the stained glass. We all look back on that first visit, and the details are still so vivid in our minds. If/when it becomes safe to travel again do yourself a favor and fly to Paris to see Sainte Chapelle for yourself. You’ll never be the same after you see and experience it in person.
Check their schedule for the concerts they hold inside (you’ll need to buy a ticket online) Listening to classical music in this magic setting is one of the most special events I have experienced travelling. Worth a trip to Paris! You’ll be a changed person.
I was there four months ago, unfortunately (for tourists) a quarter of the glass was obscured because of restoration and cleaning. Fortunately (for future tourists), the glass is being restored and cleaned.. :) so jealous, wish I could get personal access just for myself after hours!
I saw the Sainte Chapelle (private chapel of King Louis IX, called St Louis) before the near 10 years restoration and I was overwhelmed. But when I saw it again after restoration by a bright sunny afternoon, I was absolutely dazzled by its beauty, its lightness, a gem, an architectural feat of the 13th Century. 15 windows, each 15m high, the stained glass depict 1,113 scenes of the Old and New Testament, the Bible on stained glass at a time when only the clergy and very few aristocrats could read.
MUST VISIT! Paris one more time to visit Ste Chapelle. The most convincing is this stunning place was fitting, built for the glorious "Crown of Thorns" of Our Lord Jesus Christ, who is and who was, Lord of Lords, King of Kings, Lord of Heaven and Earth, Creator of all things, to whom is due our Worship, Glory and Praise. God bless.
RovexHD it s not. it is within the so called "palace of justice" (tribunal complexe). it used to be within tbe original castle of the kings of France before Versailles or even before the Louvre castles were built. it is on the central island of Paris, a couple of hundred yards from the cathedral notre dame.
Sure, they built it in 6 years. We couldn’t even build it now in that amount of time, and they built it using donkey and cart and hand tools too. Read Deuteronomy 6:10, and that is Who built it. ❤

My God that is wonderful.
My opinion: the most beautiful interior ever created by humankind.

@@mohinib2001 It's incomparable

The Sainte-Chapelle is the single most beautiful structure anywhere, IMO. I hope to visit it someday.
i hope so
Well done. Perfect amount of background information, not tedious or overwhelming.

Amazing

Thank you Rick!
Lovely !! 🌹💕🌹
Very nice.
God bless.
I found it more beautiful than Notre Dame. Pictures and video does not do it justice. It’s a must see in real life.

It's not. It is on the City ( like the city of London) island.
so all glass really a bible ?
i suppose a simple address would be too mundane
